Blog Hi-Jack from Mom and Dad

Hey Bacon’s friends.  This is Bacon’s mom and dad here.  We are hi-jacking the little guy’s blog this afternoon for an important announcement.  Today is also our pig-son’s birthday.  Our baby Bacon turns the big 4 today!  Can you believe he was born on our anniversary?  Just one more little sign that his adoption was meant to be with us.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BACON!

Bacon has brought so much joy here at the Hotel Thompson.  When I tell you there is *never* a dull moment, that is certainly the truth.  Bacon is like the little child we never had.  He’s very smart – as you all know from him writing his blog here – cough cough.  It doesn’t matter what kind of day you’ve had, how much stress you encounter in the world – he is always here waiting for you with a snort and oink.  I’m not sure what me or Jim would do without Bacon and our other ‘children’: Houdini, Hemi and Mouse Girl in our lives. They bless us beyond our imagination.

So today, we raise our glass with you our friends to send out a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the best pig-son we could ever have.  And here’s to years and years of more happiness and adventures!  Help us out our friends in wishing Bacon the best of all birthdays!

Bacon – may all your dreams come true.  May you have more delights today than ever before.  We shall celebrate tonight with your favorite birthday ‘cake’… a piggy plate full of your favorites – apples, bananas, strawberries, watermelon and grapes.

We love you our boy!

And friends – Thank you so very much for the birthday wishes to Bacon.  Kali and Shoko – LOVED your card!  So beautiful and sweet.

Shopping Around the World

This month we received a suggestion from our friends Reilly and Denny with Cowspotdog. This month we are pricing FIVE items from two different stores for price comparisons in your area.  Now, we are going to make this kind of easy.  FIVE items of your choice in making a meal.  Of course, you can use more than FIVE items to make your meal but you have to price comparison shop FIVE items from TWO different stores.

We here at the Hotel Thompson have been trying to eat better these days and with it being so darn hot, we have been eating a lot of salads.  With that in mind, we took this month’s shopping adventure with the makings of one of our favorite week day meals.

1 – Head of lettuce.  It’s funny how the price of a head of lettuce fluctuates so much.  We went to Kroger where it was 0.99 a head.  Publix had it for $1.19 a head.

2 – Seedless Grapes.  We got a small bag of red seedless grapes, 1/2 pound, at Kroger on sale for $1.19 a pound.  At Publix, they had the same for $2.39 a pound.

3 – Shaved Ham.  Don’t tell Bacon okay.  We got the store brand low sodium ham shaved at the deli at Kroger for $4.99 a pound.  Publix brand for the same was $6.99 a pound.

4 – Cheese.  We buy the block of cheese from Kraft and cut and shred what we need.  A block on sale this week at Kroger was $2.50.  Publix also had it for $2.50.

5 – Strawberries.  In the summer time, it’s a fight for fresh strawberries.  We love them and they are one of Bacon’s favorites.  I like to slice them up and put them in salads.  We bought a package from Kroger for $2.50.  The same package at Publix was $4.99 this week.

Things also in this salad were chopped pecans and tossed with Catalina Dressing.  The all time perfect summer salad in this Georgia heat!

Hope everyone had fun this month – I know we did!

I’m a Lucky Oinker

No, really.  I can admit it.  I’m a lucky oinker.  I love my life here at the Hotel Thompson. The room service is awesome!  You don’t believe me?

This morning before work, mommy actually got up and fixed breakfast.  Omelets for everyone is what she said – snorts.  She fixed daddy his omelet and then made me my special omelet – look at that delicacy – it should be in a magazine ❤  It’s a spinach and two egg omelet.  Is your mouth dripping now in desire?

And mom put it on top of my piggy chow.  I’m telling you – this is the breakfast of champions… champion pigs that is 🙂  I LOVE it when my mommy cooks my food.  How could you not, right?

But don’t worry, daddy fixes me food too.

.

This is a picture of my dinner plate that I got last night that daddy fixed me.  It looks mouth watering too, doesn’t it? It’s my piggy chow, lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes and grapes.  All of my favorites.

See I eat really good and healthy here at the Hotel Thompson.  That’s how I’m able to maintain this sexy pot-belly 🙂  Snorts and Oinks!

Ask a Stupid Question Day

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

Keeping my paws on the nuts of the world!

 .

Today, September 28th is an awesome day.  It’s Ask a Stupid Question Day.  Finally a day that we can ask all of those silly questions and not have anyone look at us a strange way.  Speak up my followers – ask all of those questions you were afraid to ask today that you have been wondering about all year long.

I interviewed the occupants here at the Hotel Thompson.  They came up with some great questions that I’m going to share.  They’ll start so you can feel better about your questions.  Remember no one is going to laugh at your question – maybe the answer but not the question – chitter chatter

“Why is Grape Nuts cereal called Grape Nuts when it has neither grapes or nuts?”

“If the Professor on Gilligan’s Island could make a radio out of a coconut, why couldn’t he fix a small hole in the side of the boat?”

“Why does Goofy always stand up on two legs yet Pluto remains on all four legs?  Aren’t they both dogs?”

“Why do banks leave their doors wide open but chain their pens to the counter?”

“How come when the battery goes dead on the television remote, you think it will work if you press the buttons harder?”

“If a cat always lands on its feet and buttered bread always lands butter side down, what would happen if you tied buttered bread on top of the cat?”

“What color would a Smurf turn if you choked it?”

Shopping Around the World

My friend Fozzie and I have scheduled a group posting today of Shopping Around the World.   We thought it would be interesting to see the differences between different countries all over. This month we are focusing on items for the vegetarians – fruits and vegetables.  Special thanks to Corkscot for the suggestion this month.

.

Items priced this month – Prices in Georgia USA:

  • Apples – Mommy goes to Sam’s Warehouse to get a huge bag of Granny Smith (my favorites) for $4.99 a bag.  There’s about 15 HUGE apples in this bag.  Which is good because I get a 1/2 of sliced apple before bedtime every night 🙂  It’s my bedtime snack.
  • Strawberries – If we are lucky, our store puts 16 ounces packages of huge strawberries on sale for $2.50 a package.  During the peak season, we go the strawberry patch.  We can get a HUGE basket that we pick… and of course I sample… for $8.00
  • Carrots –  Mommy buys me the 16 ounce bag that are cut/peeled baby carrots.  I live off of these!  She gets them for $0.99 a bag – sometimes on sale she can get them two bags for $1.00 🙂
  • Green Beans – Fresh are so yummy!  We get them here in season for $0.99 a pound.
  • Lettuce – We have been buying lettuce for a while now for $0.99 a head.  Sometimes they are HUGE and well worth it and other times they are small and only makes a couple of meals for us.  That’s right I said ‘us’.  I get a salad for dinner every night with mom.
  • Random Fruit of your choice.  Seedless grapes.  Smacking my piggy lips now.  I ❤ it when mom pops them in the freezer and then gives them to me as a treat.  Piggy heaven!
  • Random Vegetable of your choice.  Corn on the Cob – can you say delicious!?  On sale, we can get three ears for $1.00.  This is a great deal.  She shucks them, wraps them in aluminum foil, sprays them with butter and throws them on the grill, in the oven or in the crock pot. My mouth is watering just thinking about how juicy they are!

If you have some items that you want to get on the list, email me at baconthompson@gmail.com

Hope you had fun!!

Blog Hi-Jack from Mom and Dad

Hey Bacon’s friends.  This is Bacon’s mom and dad here.  We are hi-jacking the little guy’s blog this afternoon for an important announcement.  But first, we want to say thank you to all of the wonderful and kind comments for our anniversary today.  Thanks so very much!  They say that time flies by and it really does.  We have been together for so long and it seems just like yesterday when we met and started dating. It’s so hard believe it’s been 26 years now.  We both thank God every day for Jim’s mother introducing us!

Now to our announcement.  Today is also our pig-son’s birthday.  Our baby Bacon turns the big 3 today!  Can you believe he was born on our anniversary?  Just one more little sign that his adoption was meant to be with us.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BACON!

Special shout out thanks to my brother Easy across the pond.  He send me a birthday card and a bag full of goodies in the mail.  OMP – I’ve never been so excited.  I even let daddy play with my pink piggy mask.  That mask is pigawesome.  Now I can be a pink pig to see what it feels like.  Thanks brother!

Treats – It’s a Pig Life

20120827-100109.jpg

Any time I get treats, it’s a good day for me.  Mom went to the market this past weekend and bought me all kinds of treats to stock me up.  She *always* brings me back something good to eat.  This week was no different.

When mom and dad go to the market, afterwards they bring all of these grocery bags into the kitchen.  I get to watch as they put everything up knowing that I have stuff too.  After everything is put away, mom usually takes my things and cuts everything up in one day.  She puts them in buckets in the refrigerator.  This is where me, the sous chef, comes in to play 🙂  She will give me tasty little morsels to try.  And trust me, they are so good!

After she cuts everything up (usually carrots, celery, watermelon or some other fruit and my salad mix), she will fix me a bowl as a snack.  Today’s menu consisted of grapes, Goldfish and watermelon rind.  I’ve tried watermelon before but someone told mom that pigs like the rind as well.  Whoever you are you sweet dear person for telling mom this, I love you.  It is delicious and I’ve been eating every since!  Good thing mom’s dad doesn’t have a garden anymore.  I would be in hog heaven and never leave!  Snorts

Mom and dad let me eat on my food carpet in the front room. So in this picture don’t fear the “dirty carpet”, it’s my feed mat.  They pick it up and wash it every week.  As you can see, I am chomping down on that watermelon rind.  Mom took this picture of me in mid chomp.  I usually will eat what I like the most first.  Of course, it was the rind.  I couldn’t get enough of it.  You bite into it and the watermelon juice actually squirts inside of your mouth.  That’s my favorite part.

I guess you can say I’m a little spoiled.  Not a lot – just a little.  What do you think?  What’s your favorite treat?

Me and Food

Me and food – what can I say?  I ❤ food.  It’s what I live for.. well that and snuggles from mommy.  I thought today I would show you what I eat here at the Hotel Thompson.  Keep in mind that I might be just a tad bit spoiled… just a little okay.

This by all means does not happen every day or every weekend for that matter.  But, at times mommy cooks me my very own spinach omelet with piggy chow on the bottom of my piggy feed bowl.  Doesn’t it look delish?  Trust me, it is!

If I’ve been especially good, she will put on her cook hat and toss some eggs around.  Daddy gets one too – minus the piggy chow – snorts.

Most days though, I have a combination of Cheerios and piggy chow.

.

Here is my snack bowl that dad will fix me during the week at times.  You can see my piggy plate better in this picture.  Dad gives me rice cakes, carrots and grapes.  Again, not every day.

My snack during the day changes according to what is in the pantry here at the Hotel Thompson.  Looks good, huh?  Sometimes I have to watch daddy because he will eat my snacks as he fixes my plate – how could he huh?

.

For special occasions like my birthday, I get the platter of my dreams like this picture to the left.  Who needs a birthday cake when you have all of my favorites rolled up into one delicious piggy plate?

Bananas, strawberries, grapes and watermelon.  Licks lips!  Too bad birthdays only come once a year!

If I’m lucky, mommy will fix a tub of this deliciousness so I can eat on it the entire week.  Usually when she goes shopping, this is how she does my food.  She packages it for the week so all dad has to do is pull out a container for me.  It makes it easier for him since he takes care of me during the week when mommy is at the worky place.

.

This plate to the right is my normal dinner.  A great salad topped with carrots, tomatoes and piggy chow on the bottom.  I ❤ my dinner plate.  Doesn’t it look delicious.  You want some, don’t you?  Usually mommy will fix me my plate while she is fixing her salad.

And I love me some snacks.  I can be bought and persuaded to do almost anything with any of the following – Gold Fish (Crackers not sushi – snorts), animal crackers, an apple slice or okay – just about anything.

But for your amusement, there is a rule here at the Hotel Thompson. Don’t eat in front of the pig unless you plan on sharing with the pig.  Snorts – you’ll see once you look at this video.  Enjoy my friends and I hope you learned something about this little oinker that you didn’t know.

What is Happiness?

What is happiness?  I’m a simple pig.  Happiness to me is a platefull of bananas, strawberries and grapes in my favorite snack piggy plate.  See, I’m simple like that.  I got this wonderful snack of my favorite things.  Why?  Because I’m cute, cuddly and as momma says, “Just so precious”.  Snorts – it doesn’t take much, does it?

What are you happy for on this Saturday?  I’m happy for my food, my accomodations here at the Hotel Thompson and of course mom/dad.

XOXO – Bacon

Saturday Treat

20120827-100109.jpg

Saturday is usually a good day for me.  Saturday is the day that if mom is going to go to the market, it happens this day.  She went this weekend.  She *always* brings me back something good to eat.  This week was no different.
