Dear Bacon
Dear Bacon – Listen the water is fine my four legged pot bellied piggy. Why don’t you come for a swim with me. I’ll even teach you how to swim under the water. I’m sure you will catch on fast. What do you think? Signed Mr. Friendly
Dear Mr. Friendly – Not that I don’t appreciate your well… friendness but I think I’ll pass. For some reason, I think it’s better for this little oinker to stay on dry land, far away from the water and far, far away from your swimming lessons. Call it a premonition if you will.
But, carry on my friend and thank you… really.
Dear Bacon – The nerve of our family vet. Can you believe that (A) they had the nerve to come near my captains quarters with that proby thing and (B) they told my humans that *I* needed to go on a DIET?! What in the world was he thinking? Don’t my humans pay for his sound advice? What kind of crap advice is this? I think the look on my face tells you everything I think. Signed Tiny
Dear Tiny – Oh dear. That proby thing is awful. It must be a torture device from centuries long ago. Yep, that’s what I think. And that look on your face. Oh my. You are certainly not happy. And well… looks down at my pot belly. I am one NOT to give any advice to you on that four lettered dirty word – D.I.E.T. Shakes head – nope.
Not the one to do that at all my friend.
Dear Bacon – I see you – purr snicker. I have my eyes on your activities good or bad. I’m reporting back to that Evil Elf of yours Don Juan. You just wait. You’re going to get it when he comes out in November. Signed The Watcher
Dear The Watcher – Really?! It’s not bad enough that I have rogue elf that watches my every move, you’re going to as well? Rolls piggy eyes and walks away. This is so not fair in this oinker’s life. Can’t we all just get along? Snorts
Dear Bacon – I hate it when I get into trouble here at my casa. Can you believe that my humans make me face the couch and sit here in time out? It’s so humiliating. Signed Unhappy Pooch
Dear Unhappy Pooch – WOW my friend. That is some look you have there facing your tomb of doom. It’s just not right. And to put you in this time out right in the middle of the living room where you can hear and see all of the fun activities going on around you. Shakes piggy head and clicks tongue. Nope, just not right. I’m sorry pal. Maybe when you come out of serving your time, you just ignore those humans. Show them who is getting timeout there. Don’t give them any affection.
None whatsoever… can you last like what five seconds? Hang in there my bud!
Dear Bacon – I double kitty dare you to try this maneuver. Heck, I triple meow dare you. I dare you to put your back legs up over your head. In fact if you can do this position, I will personally come over every day and give you a piggy massage – heck I’ll even clean up your room for you. Signed Fear Factor Feline
Dear Fear Factor Feline – Really?! That’s okay my furry friend. That’s what I have my mommy for – massages and cleaning – snorts. Let’s hope that cannon of yours doesn’t go off while you are bent legs over head.
Journal to Healthier Living – Week 18
Welcome my friends. I’m tweaking my weekly journey with my healthier living. It’s a step in the right direction for sure. I hope you come along for the ride. Instead of day-to-day comments, I’m going to post something from my personal journal to share. Hope you enjoy. Remember all of us go down this path and we are all in it together ❤
Week of 05/06-05/12/2018 – Week 18
“Dear Journal – Life is better with a plan. I think I finally found a plan that I can work with and do every day. I’m a planner like that. So what is the plan you ask? I’m glad you asked Journal. So for part of my lunch during the week, I’m doing 15 minutes of light stretches/yoga. This has been giving me a solid rock during the week. I don’t feel as pressured or stressed when I get home. Another 15 minutes I do a solid walk. And then I’m watching what I’m eating. And the big one – no soda’s. I did it once for almost six months. I can do this again – no soda’s. And more water… water is your friend. Be one with your friend.”

Don’t Come Knocking On My Door
Today for my afternoon nap, dad tucked me in bed with some celery and carrots and I watched The Three Little Pigs on my flatscreen. I know it’s old school from the 1930’s but I love Mr. Disney and his movies. This is like the upteenth time I’ve seen movie and I have some thoughts.
Let’s talk about the pig names first. Practical Pig, Fiddler Pig and Fifer Pig. Really? Did you know that they even had names? Couldn’t come up with something unique like Bacon, huh? Ham, Sushi and Maxwell were taken?
So Fiddler Pig plays the fiddle and Fifer Pig plays the flute. – puts my hoove to my head – how original. They went the cheap way and made their houses of straw and sticks. They did it quickly so they could play their lovely musical instruments all day long. What a party that must have been!
Then let’s discuss something that’s kind of ironical. Did anyone else notice this scene in the movie? Do you see “Father” in the photograph on the wall? Really? Mr. Disney bravo to you for having such a wicked sense of humor. Goodness, it took me almost 3 times watching to catch this. I asked mom what did it mean? Was that their father? I didn’t quite understand. Mom said that when I got older she would explain. Translation – it’s something bad.
Leave it to Practical Pig to build his house of brick. He tried to warn his two little brothers who wanted to play all day but they didn’t listen. They went on with their little jamboree while Practical Pig spent the extra money and time and built for the future not for the moment. Then enter the big bad wolf. Practical Pig tried to warn Fiddler and Fifer Pig but they didn’t want to listen. That big bad wolf puffed and huffed and blew the house of sticks and house of straw down. What did the brothers do? Run to brother’s house to have him save them. Of course, Practical Pig *always* has an exit plan. Big Bad Wolf didn’t want to listen and tried his best to get in the house finally thinking he had a way through the fireplace. I bet he was surprised when he dropped in for dinner and HE was the dinner!
So bottom line on this story. Apparently this big bad wolf didn’t meet my ancestors – PigBrutus, PigSpartacus and PigDynomite. They don’t put up with much bull from anyone. They learned from great, great, great, great Uncle PiggyJohnWayne.
So, do you see the story in a different light now? Do you understand my thoughts? What are your views?
National Stress Awareness Day
Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –
Keeping his paws on the nuts of the world –
Today April 16th is a day that Bacon’s mom can definitely wrap her arms around – National Stress Awareness Day. This day was created in 1992 sponsored by the Health Resource Network (HRN). They started this holiday to increase public awareness of the causes and cures of stress. And we all know that stress can come from a variety of different reasons: paying bills, work, children, schedules, car problems, friends – you name it and stress can come from it. And here in the United States with taxes being due yesterday, what better day to have this holiday then today?
Today is the day to acknowledge that you are stressed out and then do something about it. Go for a walk. Try some meditation. Try some exercise. Do some yoga. Just lay down and relax. Just for a bit, don’t concentrate on the wrongs in your life but concentrate on the things that you have to be grateful for. Shrug off this stress even if it is just for today. I know this afternoon me and Bacon are going to try yoga. Wish us luck – his downward pig pose is not something I’m looking forward to – chitter chatter!
Journal to Healthier Living – Week 13

Week of 04/01-04/07/2018 – Week 13
“Dear Journal – Sometimes when you let some things go, everything falls into place. Today is a new day to a new beginning. My recuperation from surgery has lasted a bit longer than I expected. I didn’t think I was going to jump back into things right off but I also didn’t think it was going to take me nearly five months to get there either. But it’s time. Baby steps – even if it is an mile a week. It’s time to start pushing myself for more of an achievement. If my sister can run 26 miles in October, I can walk 10-12 miles a week. No excuses.”

Another one with the air fryer last week. The hub unit loves corn dogs and requested them in the air fryer. This took a day ahead to prepare. I’m sure I could have done it in one day but I wanted the corn dogs to be a little frozen… let me start at the beginning. One night after dinner, I fixed corn dog batter and battered my hot dogs. I put them in a container into the freezer. I want them to be a little ‘hardened’ so as to not get the batter slushed all around in the air fryer. Makes sense, right? The next night when we were going to have the corn dogs, I took them straight from the freezer and popped them into the air fryer with tater tots (my hubs favorite). I cooked the both of them at the same time at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. They came out perfect! The hub enjoyed them immensely and I didn’t feel so guilty about it because they were not full of grease. So another hit at the Hotel Thompson!
Spring is Around the Corner
I think this says “EVERYTHING” about what I’m feeling – spring is near and around the corner.
I SO CAN’T WAIT!! It’s time for this little piggy to come out of some hibernation and start moving again. I miss the days of running throughout the Hotel Thompson and chasing playing with the purr thing and the barky thing. I just know they’ve missed me too.
And with Spring – you know what else comes – all the wonderful fruits of the season. Oh, it makes my little mouth water so much.
Is everybody with me on this Spring thing??
Journal to Healthier Living – Week 7

Week of 02/18-02/24/2018 – Week 7
“Dear Journal – It seems like food choices are beginning to become easier in decision making. That’s a great and awesome thing. If you would have told me this time last year I would be choosing water over a soda, I would have laughed at you. I was so addicted to fully leaded soda! It’s such a relief to break myself of that addiction. I don’t have to worry about diet soda… I would much rather drink water anytime. And I think water is so much better for my skin as well. This was definitely a good week of eating. I need to pick up the exercise a bit more. I’ve been doing a combination of walking and exercise. There are seven exercises that I’m trying to incorporate into my routine everyday. It’s working for me and that is what matters. I think I’m going to rope the hub unit in doing those seven exercises with me every evening. It may make things go faster and it would certainly help to boost both of us for sure.”

Week of 01/21-01/27/2018 – Week 3 (MILES MOVED: 5.96)
“Dear Journal – Slow and easy wins the race. Recuperation from my surgery is going well; however, my rheumatoid arthritis is deciding to flare up. I went back on a different RA medicine. It so hates me and is not agreeing with my body. I will give it another week to settle. If it doesn’t, then we will go to plan B… whatever that might be. I want to get back into my exercising. It’s true what they say. Trying to get back into a plan is the hardest thing in the world. I was really burning some miles and then I had to stop because of surgery. It’s hard finding my way back. But I will! I am determined if not anything else. At least my food choices have been on key – that’s definitely a plus. Wouldn’t it be great if we could all eat anything we wanted with no consequences? I’m not as young as I was once – LOL.”
Week of 01/28-02/03/2018 – Week 4 (MILES MOVED: 5.62)
“Dear Journal – This week started slow. I had some type of virus going around the office. I’m so thankful that we share everything – not! I was home Monday/Tuesday which also led me to the point of coming off of my RA medicine. It so was not agreeing with my body. I’ve been speaking with my doctor back/forth about it and we both decided to stop it. For the past three months, I worked on a pain management plan. I think I’m going to stay on that for a while. I need my body to catch up and even out. It’s been hard these past three months going through so many physical changes. I’m happy with the surgery. I just need things to chill out now with everything else. Can you believe it’s been almost three months since surgery? Sometimes it just seems like yesterday. I so should have done this years ago! I feel like a new person in that aspect.”
Oh and by the way, I bought an air fryer for the house. I’m going to be using it in the future and hopefully sharing with you some awesome recipes. Do you have one? If so, share some recipes. An air fryer circulates heat at a high speed around the items that you are cooking. This produces a crispy top layer to what you are cooking. It doesn’t use oil like you would if you fried foods. And being in the south, we know our fried foods. Using an air fryer will hopefully help our waistlines in cooking healthier and eating more at home. I will keep you updated on what foods we cook.

Monday, January 15, 2018 – I was off today for the holiday from work. Cleaned up some dresser drawers today and have a couple of bags for donations. I think I’ll be having a lot of cleaning out in the next couple of months of old clothes that just don’t fit anymore. I’m not sure at this point if it’s a good thing or a bad thing – LOL. Miles Moved: 0.25
Tuesday, January 16, 2018 – Back to work and actually got a good little walk in today. It felt good to move a bit more. Miles Moved: 1.15
Wednesday, January 17, 2018 – Today was snow day. Can you believe snow in the south? It happens every once in a blue moon. I’m trying to find my way back to walking. It’s hard. My doctor has put me on a new med for my Rheumatoid Arthritis. Let’s just say it’s kicking my butt right now. But I’m letting my system adjust to it. Miles Moved: 0.25
Thursday, January 18, 2018 – Split between headache and nauseousness. Which is worse? I’m not sure but I’m determined to get through this! Miles Moved: 0.83
Friday, January 19, 2018 – I’m determined to start walking more next week. This medicine is just going to have to catch up to me then. Miles Moved: 1.09
Saturday, January 20, 2018 – Errands on top of errands. I think I need a keeper for sure these days. Highlight of my day – talking to Phenny’s parents across the pond. What an awesome way to start the day! Thanks Katty and Mark! ❤ Miles Moved: 0.50
Thoughts for the week: Life is life. There is no race. I’m taking one day at a time with everything. My body will adjust and things will fall into place. I’m sure of it. Thanks my friends for supporting me along “our” adventures together ❤
