Friends – this is an awesome day – National Sandwich Day! Sandwiches are so varied in how you can make them – what bread, what meats, hot or cold, grilled, pressed, open or closed, condiments, toppings – sigh – let me slow down. The options are out there my friends. Do you know how the day got started?
English history says that John Montagu was the 4th Earl of Sandwich. He was a heavy gambler and would spend hours at the tables in London’s gambling halls. In 1762, he created the sandwich by putting meat between two pieces of bread. This allowed him to stay at the tables longer to gamble. Thus, the sandwich was made.
And do you know what Elvis Presley liked on his sandwiches? Peanut butter, banana and bacon (sorry Bacon) and then it was grilled. It does sound interesting in a round about way.
And do you have a Subway restaurant in your area? Today if you buy a sub and a 30 ounce drink, you get a free sub to share. Now that sounds like an awesome way to spend today.
Mom *finally* made it to the post office earlier this week. The sad thing is that she went on Monday. Why is that sad? Because Monday and the post office should never ever be said in the same sentence. It was so terribly busy. Mom stood in line what seemed like forever. At one point she posted on Facebook:
I’m not saying this line at the post office is slow but I think a turtle just passed me.
Yep. Leave it to mom to find amusement in any situation. What she didn’t say was that a snail had already passed her. Snorts and rolls with piggy laughter.
But look at what mom found at the post office. These are awesome forever stamps – Wonder Woman throughout the years. Aren’t they the neatest stamps ever?
Do you have any neat stamps that your humans have bought over the years? Dad has some Marilyn Monroe stamps and Nana has some Elvis stamps. Cool huh?

One of mommy’s co-workers were at the Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport a couple of weeks ago and took this picture. It’s Elvis! AND, he was texting on a cell phone!
OMP! This little oinker is so excited. Can you believe it!? Personally though, I thought he would be wearing blue suede shoes and not boots but then again I can’t be picky when spotting the King, huh?
I know what you’re thinking. You’re having doubts. But look close at those side burns. Right? And why would he be wearing dark sunglasses inside if it wasn’t to disguise himself? See, this pig is right, right?
The only thing that could have made it better was if he broke out singing a couple of songs while everyone was waiting for their plane – snorts.
Okay – okay. I’ll give you this. It was an impersonator. I mean it kind of gave it away when you saw him texting, right? snorts. But, it was still a cool picture 🙂
Do you ever come off of weekend feeling more tired than you did going into the weekend? That’s the way it seemed here this weekend at the Hotel Thompson. Mom/dad were on the constant go – but before I snort about that, let’s talk about my Bashful. He came home last week! Mom came home late from work one night and found a box sitting on her doorstep. She looked at the return address and knew it was Bashful coming back from his visit with Denny and Reilly. She came in telling me that Bashful was home!
We both dug into the box to find our little guy. And not only was Bashful in the box but so was his friend Sweet Pea. They have stayed up late at night and talked so much to the other pet rocks here for nights now. There is no slowing down the rock clan. I think they are silently putting together a party that they are going to talk to mom/dad about later. Can you imagine that party!? I’m kind of looking forward to it… but don’t tell anyone – that’s our secret for now okay.
But also in the box from Denny and Reilly were a couple of gifts that I have just piggy swooned over my friends. One of them was a box of Barnum’s Animal’s crackers – limited edition. Oh my piggy heavens. First of all – I absolutely LOVE animal crackers. They are up there on my top favorite three snackables and these are so cool! I kept telling mommy, “Give it to me – give it to the piggy”. She told me to be nice though and look at the other gift that was in the box. It was wrapped up in paper and mommy had to unwrap it. What was it? What could it be?
Squeals to the high heavens – it’s a mini-me named Elvis! Look at this cute little pig and he’s black – LIKE ME. I couldn’t believe it. He is so adorable! And mommy said his name was on his neck – Elvis. OMP! He is a perfect addition here at the Hotel Thompson. I told mommy to put him on our book shelves in the front yard. He gets to sit right next to our ninja cow – don’t ask – snorts. Isn’t he beautiful?!
Thank you so very much Denny and Reilly for hosting my Bashful, showing him the bestest of times and my gifts – I love them!
So that brings us to this weekend. Busy, busy and more busy. I think it was a race to see how much could mom/dad do in two days. Really I do believe that. They got up Saturday and went to the worky place. Mom really wants to finish up her year end totals for 2015 and she is getting there. Then she can start work on taxes – shaking piggy head. I don’t think I will see mom until this Summer – snorts with piggy laughter. After mom got done working almost a full day, they ate dinner out and went by the pharmacy. By the time they got home, we anipals got some snuggles and hugs and then it was time for bed. Where did Saturday go huh?
And then Sunday was just as rushed. Mom/dad talked to Easy’s parents in France first thing. You should have hear mommy laughing so hard with Easy’s mom. They were having a blast of a good time. Now, I want you to know during this time I was a perfect pig. I slept close to mom snuggled down next to her legs behaving myself. I can not say the same for my little brother Houdini. Houdini does not like to share and this day was no exception. Houdini kept attacking mom’s fingers and hands trying to get her attention. The only time he behaved was when daddy held him. Then Houdini would hear mom and Easy’s mom voice and want to go at mom again. It was hilarious!
After the phone call, mom went to give plasma at the clinic (#14 donation if I say – she committed to 20). Afterwards, mom/dad went for lunch. Once they were nicely full, they went grocery shopping. Snorts – what a perfect time huh? You are so full that you just want to get what you need and leave. But I’m glad to report that mom had almost $30.00 in coupons. Yay huh?
So you see, by the time they did all of this, where did the weekend go? I demand a repeat without any errands or work. What do you think? How was your weekend my friends?

You know for mommy not to like to shop, daddy sure has been taking her off a lot on these weekends. And it seems innocent enough. Really it does. Until they get home and I start looking around on her iPhone pictures and come across some of her “shots” from the day. But what she doesn’t realize is that all of our electronics are on the “cloud” here at the Hotel Thompson. Therefore some of her pictures will come across my iPad – evil snorts. That’s just our little secret okay. What mom doesn’t know won’t hurt her.
Let’s look at picture 1 on mom/dad’s adventure out from this weekend. Mom/dad – you have some explaining to do! Mom said they stopped for gas at a local Quick Trip. Daddy saw this sign and had to investigate. A “Maple Bacon Quickshake”. Really Quick Trip? Rolls piggy eyes. Dear heavens above help us all.
Now, did I even have to ask mommy if daddy got one? Do I? Of course he did. That’s my dad – the adventurer. It’s a funny thing though. When I asked mom what it taste like, she knew. So mom – you want to tell me how you knew? I’ll wait for your answer. Tapping hooves.
I know you want to know too my friends. Mom said it had a strong sweet taste from the maple but it also had bacon bits in it. Now that just sounds so wrong. Bacon bits. I can give you some bacon bits – snorts!
Then upon further exploring mom’s pictures, I came across these shots of daddy doing another thing he does best – acting silly with some new pig friends he met – SuperPig, BatPig and ElvisPig. Shakes piggy head. Daddy I think you need professional help – snorts. So, did you do anything exciting this weekend my friends?
Licks piggy lips just thinking about this combination. And yeah, I would throw a banana in there as well – way to go my inspiration Mr. Elvis. Peanut butter and jelly go together like baseball and hot dogs – like soda and popcorn – like beer and nuts – you get the picture? It’s a great combo that I frequently beg for… along with a banana – snorts. And one of my favorite past times is giving the purr things here peanut butter. Oh dear piggy heavens above – *that* is definitely something to watch. (NOTE: No harm was done to the purr things in my amusement).
My dad is a HUGE Poptart fan. Don’t ask me why. He never grew up is what I’m thinking – oinks. Well there is a new flavor called – what did you expect – peanut butter and jelly. He bought a box and I admit it the man actually shared a bite with me. I think it’s because of mom’s stand fast rule here at the Hotel Thompson, “Don’t eat in front of the pig unless you plan on sharing with the pig”. Any who, every since I tried it – I LOVED THEM.
And oh my pigs – the commercial on television for them is outrageous. Although, I have read some on the internet about it being controversial. Can you imagine that? A Poptart commercial for peanut butter and jelly being an eye opener for people? I know you want to see it now, am I right? Snorts 🙂 Don’t worry – I found it for you. Watch and let me know what you think my friends.
Happy delicious, wonderful, scary Halloween my friends!!
We finally made it to the end of the month – to the one day that we look forward to once a year – HALLOWEEN. Did you think that you were going to make it? I know there were times that *I* didn’t – snorts. I do hope you you’ve enjoyed my 31 Days of Spook and that I didn’t scare you too much. It’s been a joy to bring it to you this year and share in some of our ‘real’ ghost stories.
It’s been a real zoo here at the Hotel Thompson this month. I wanted to join some dress up contests and parties but I’ve been so very behind with everything 😦 I guess that’s what happens when mom/dad go on vacation so close to my big day. I promise – next year I will be on top of things.
I do want to share a few things with my family – snorts. Hemi and Mouse Girl, the two purr things here, are going as my back up singers and I’m going as Bacon, The King, Presley. Here we are (can someone get me a banana peanut butter sandwich please?):
That leaves mom/dad. They needed something to bring out their ‘inner’ child. Lots of discussion took place and we finally settled on some things that are close to their hearts. Dad is of course the devil – snorts – and mom is bringing out her inner Puss and Boots – snorts.

Miniature pot bellied pig and friends - Bacon, Houdini, Hemi and all of the Rock Clan with Journalist Rocky the Squirrel all out looking for adventures from the Hotel Thompson.
