The question is why is mom/dad posting this delectable picture of goodness at the beginning of the new year? Why mom/dad? Please explain. Well, they said they had this dessert last year. Okay, sure mom/dad. Sure. It does look yummy though, right?
Mom/dad found it at a restaurant that they don’t frequent very often – but they might now because of this dessert. This delicious dessert is called a Goo Goo Cluster. It has creamy layers of chocolate fudge, peanut butter mousse and nougat cream topped with caramel, chocolate sauce, fresh whipped cream and Nashville’s original candy ~ chopped Goo Goo Cluster ®. (That’s what it says on the restaurants website).
Nods head. Mom/dad says it tastes as good as it sounds… not that she will be tasting it anytime soon this year – snorts with piggy laughter.
Can you look at that picture and say yummo!? Mom recently got a coupon – the woman is Queen of coupons here at the Hotel Thompson. This coupon was buy one 12 piece shrimp and get one for free. Now mom/dad have gotten these shrimp at a local ‘bar’ restaurant before and they have been awesome. They usually get them medium extra crispy with a side of blue cheese. But the restaurant has recently changed their sauces. The usual sauce esd a light colored less saucy kind of yum. These were more wet and you could smell the heat before you even bit one. In fact, dad was the one that brought up the smell of the new sauce before mom did. The restaurant did not tell us about the change in the sauce before we ordered.
These were H.O.T. Mom/dad ate them but way prefer their old sauce more. Why do restaurants do this and change a good thing? They hope this restaurant brings it back or gives the patrons a choice in the future. But hey, free buffalo shrimp you still can pass up, right?
What is this gooey yummy awesomeness you ask? Can you guess? Mom/dad found one of their favorites at a local restaurant they sometimes frequent. I believe dad said the menu called them Mac and Cheese Bites. Dad was really digging them cause they were really cheesy – like him. Snorts and rolls with piggy laughter. I just had to go there. Mom said they were okay and that she liked her Mac and cheese the old fashioned way. Have you ever had a creation like this?
What is this you ask my friends? Mom called it heaven on earth. Mom/dad found this delicacy way before mom’s surgery. It’s fried Twinkies. Yep – you read right. Fried Twinkies. And when they fry the Twinkie, it makes the white cream even creamier. Dad loves them. Have you ever tried them?
Welcome my friends to another edition of Travels in the South. This week in honor of the eclipse, we want to bring you something special. Something that is so out of this world that mom had to make pre-arrangements last week so she could partake in this glory. Pre-arrangements as in she walked extra – snorts with piggy laughter. And I don’t blame her because this was well worth the extra calories.
We’ve all heard of Krispy Kreme. It’s a doughnut chain that makes awesome doughnuts of every kind imaginable. And when the HOT doughnut sign is on, it means they have hot glazed doughnuts coming off of the conveyor. Hot glazed doughnuts that will melt in your mouth from being so fabulous. Okay give me a second – I need a moment.
Okay I’m good. With the eclipse coming this week, just for last weekend their regular glaze went chocolate. Can you imagine hot doughnuts going through a waterfall of fabulously hot chocolate? Trust me. It sounds much better than what it looks. But you can see from the pictures what I’m talking about.
Now do you see the hot chocolate glazed doughnuts in the box? Yes trust me on this. Mom/dad said they tasted so much better than what they look in the box – ha! Their thoughts about the first time chocolate eclipse doughnuts? They come off the conveyor hot. They are great but messy. I mean messy. Mom told daddy that she thought she was going to have to hose him down before he got into the Jeep. That kind of messy. But good. And mom said she preferred them once they went cold. They weren’t as messy then – which she loved. Either way, it was a once in a lifetime treat all the way around. And yeah, mom/dad didn’t forget about me. They brought me one of my favorites – an apple fritter. Now *that’s* what I’m talking about!
Every once in a while, your body just craves a good steak – well so says mom/dad. And when mom craves steak, dad takes full advantage and takes her to a local steakhouse that they both love. On this date, mom/dad shared this plate above, of course with a side salad. This is one of mom’s favorites – a ribeye steak fire grilled on an open flame, medium please. The juices were still running and mom licked her lips before jumping in with both feet to eat her way out. And of course by splitting the meal with daddy, that does mean 1/2 the calories. Dad said it was an awesome dinner. When was the last time you had steak calling your name?
What better way to celebrate the 4th of July then with Fireworks. Add Oreos to the mix and you have the best of both situations. Mom/dad found these limited edition Firework Oreo’s to celebrate the holiday. And boy were the 1- fun and 2- delicious! Yep, this little oinker got to try some. Now I love Oreo’s and I should have been suspicious when dad offered me one. But I wasn’t and I gobbled it down. That’s when it happened. The little ‘pop-pop-pop’ on my piggy tongue.
Do you remember pop rocks? They have something similar to pop rocks on the white stuff of the Oreo. When you eat the Oreo, you can feel the popping in your mouth. It’s a blast of a great time. We all had to share them here at the Hotel Thompson.
And do you want to hear what is funny? Mom bought these and didn’t tell daddy what flavor they were. You have to check out their video. So funny!
If you see them in your grocery store, try a pack. They are fun – fun – FUN!
Friends, this is a great one today. I know – I know. I say that every week on my Travels in the South. But listen – every week I think there is absolutely no way that mom/dad can top the week’s prior Travels in the South. And every week, this little oinker is wrong. Right after mom’s accident (4 weeks ago today), she was feeling really icky and low. So dad treated her to this masterpiece. What is it you ask?
Daddy was speaking with the owner of a local restaurant that we go to a lot and was telling him that mom needed something to pick her up. The manager sent over this creation on the house. This is called Goo Goo Crunch pie. It has layers of chocolate fudge, peanut butter mousse and a nougat cream topped with caramel, chocolate sauce, fresh whipped cream and oh yeah – chopped up Goo Goo Clusters. Can you say insanely wicked good?! Daddy said that he could tell it was good. Not by the smile on mom’s face. Nope. Daddy said he could tell by the groans coming from mom. Oh my piggy heavens. Watch out Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. Daddy said mom had you beat on this day – snorts with piggy laughter!
If you had to describe comfort in a picture, this would be mom’s. It doesn’t look pretty but mom says it is totally awesome. What is it you ask? This creation is called Chocolate Cream Pie and it’s found out a place called Waffle House. They don’t have them all of the time. Usually they have them in the freezer and they forget to put them out – snorts with piggy laughter. But mom loves this pie. It’s her comfort pie.
She hasn’t had one lately. This picture was actually taken several weeks ago. But every once in a while, mom still looks at this picture and dreams about how good it tastes.
Do you have ‘comfort’ food like mom? If so, what kind? Please share my sweet friends. ❤
Welcome my friends to another edition of Travels in the South. This weeks find is something sinful. It is something so delicious that you and your spouse will fight over the last bite. Heck, you might even want to get your own slice of this heaven so you don’t have to share.
This week’s find is called Sogno Di Cioccolata – translation “Chocolate Dream” Now look at that picture. Isn’t that the best way to describe it? Chocolate Dream. Are you asking yourself what is in this masterpiece? It’s a rich fudge brownie covered with a chocolate mousse and topped with fresh whipped cream and drizzled with chocolate sauce. Oh, did I mention that it’s also sitting in a puddle of rich chocolate? Mom/dad always share one of these delicious creations because it is so rich and heavenly. But they do fight over the last bite… or should I say they play paper – rock – scissors. Snorts with piggy laughter.
So my friends, if you have a Carrabba’s Italian restaurant near you, make some plans to try this delicious creation. It’s on their dessert menu ❤
