Shopping Around the World – REMINDER

Shopping Around the World is so much fun to see the various prices around the world!

Me and my pal Fozzie started Shopping Around the World in April.  This has become a huge hit and we all want to know if we are paying more or less than everyone else – snorts.  We are going to do it again this month on Wednesday, December 31st.

.

Do a posting on your blog linked back to mine.  That way we can keep track of all of the different prices.  It should be interesting to see the differences between.  Mark your calendar so you can do a posting with us.

Items to price this month:

  • Soup – It is that time of the year here in the States for soup – shivers.  What is your favorite can/container to buy and how much is it?
  • Christmas Trees – Since it’s Christmas time, how much are real trees going for in your area?
  • Cold Medicine – Tis the season to get sick 🙂 Mom has had to buy some for daddy lately and she couldn’t believe the price of it – OMP!  List what kind you normally keep on hand/price.
  • Hot Drink – During the cold season, what do you keep on hand for something hot – whether it’s coffee, tea, hot chocolate, hot toddy, etc.  Name what you have/price
  • Random Item of your choice.

Come join the fun of Shopping Around the World – mark your calendars

Wednesday, December 31st.

Thank you very much for your ideas for the monthly listing. If you have any more suggestions to be added to my on-going list, please email them to me.

Important Conversations from Mom and Dad

I have to admit that sometimes conversations overheard between mom and dad are so hilarious.  The basis of them are out of this world!  You gotta know where I get my sense of humor or lack of humor from – those two humans of mine. This morning the conversation revolved around coffee.  So I guess you can say they had coffee talk – snorts.

After I tell you about the conversation, I know you are going to go really?  Does it really matter?  But I kid you not, the conversation this morning was riveting.  That’s right.  Riveting between those two.  It went like this.

Mom came into the kitchen bright eyed and bushy tail so full of life – NOT.  Snorts – my mommy is NOT a morning person.  She went straight for her special coffee cup and went to the fridge.  She put her creamer in the cup – for those following along it was International Delight White Chocolate Mocha – and two Splenda packs.  Then she went to the coffee maker and poured coffee into said cup, sat down at the table and started tasting… trying to become human that early in the morning.

During the time, dad was at the table reading the newspaper and watching mom.  Now dad on the other hoof IS a morning person.  Hey – opposites attract huh?  Now even us anipals in the Hotel Thompson know not to bother mommy until she’s had at least one cup of coffee.  Daddy on the other hand through years of training still does not.

He started the conversation not with good morning honey, how did you sleep or I love you.  He started the morning by saying, “You fix coffee the wrong way.”  WOW – Is there a wrong way?  It’s not rocket science, is it?  Mom’s one eyebrow over her left eye went up.  Shivers – that’s dangerous.  That’s the sign that something wicked is fixing to project from her.  It can’t be good.

Mom softly said (mom talking softly is another sign of danger might I add), “Really?”  Oh WOW dad.  You’re also getting one word answers from mom.  Danger Will Robinson – DANGER – do you NOT see the signs here?  But no, daddy went right on.  “Yeah, you’re suppose to put coffee in first and then your condiments.  You do it backwards.”

That raised eyebrow came up again while mom took a sip of her coffee.  “WOW – what are you the coffee police?”  Thud snorts.  Go mommy.

“No.  You just do it backwards.  You put coffee in first and then cream and sugar.  It makes sense that way.”  Daddy continued on talking about the right way for about five minutes.  Mom tuned him out while she petted me and sipped her ‘wrong’ coffee.

Then when dad went for a breath, she stopped him and said, “So does it taste different your way?”

“No.  It doesn’t taste different, but…”

“Then does it really matter?  I mean, the last time I checked I don’t tell you how to climb into bed the right way.  Or how to put your pants on the right way.  For that matter, I don’t tell you when to breathe the right way.  So, does it really matter how I fix my coffee?  Cause if it does, I can start telling you how you do things wrong.  Of course, we might be here for a couple of days.”

“Nope, we’re good.  Can I get you another cup of coffee while you get ready for work dear?  And did I tell you I love you?”  and with that he bent over and kissed mommy good morning.

So I guess today’s topic should be, how do you fix your coffee?

This Is Me Being Serious

Something happened last night.  We had friends over and of course you know I had to put on a performance – snorts.  Hey, it’s what I do.  The topic turned to my blog. We all took turns reading past articles from it and snorting – alcohol may have been involved with the humans – snorts.  Our friends made the comment that *I* could not be serious.  What?  Is that a dare?  Cause you know it sounded like a dare to this little oinker. So today, I will be serious.  This post will be about something that happened to me and mom this morning.  You just read and see.  Cough-cough-oink-snort- here comes my serious side.  Stop laughing.  I’m being serious.

This morning instead of me getting mom up for breakfast, she woke me up for a change.  It was early.  I couldn’t understand why.  She told me that she had to show me something that was special.  Something without electronics, without technology, with just me and her alone.  I just looked at her and yawned but hey I was game.  We walked to the kitchen and I sat on the floor yawning while mom fixed her a cup of coffee.  Then we did something strange.  We went out the back door of the Hotel Thompson.  The back door leads us to my backyard… my kingdom that I like to call it.

We sat down on the deck, mom cross-legged and I climbed up in her lap.  I kept looking at her waiting for an explanation.  It was dark out here overlooking my magical backyard and it was kind of chilly.  I couldn’t see anything but darkness.    Mom told me, “Wait for it Bacon.”  Wait for what?  I sat and continue to listen.  That’s when I noticed the sounds.

I could hear crickets.  I could hear frogs near the swamp.  I could hear a dog barking in the neighborhood.  I could hear Journalist Rocky the Squirrel chatting away with his family in the trees.  I even started hearing birds chirp.  WOW – I’ve never heard these noises so close before.  Then I started to hear a rooster a couple of doors down.  I looked at mom in complete awe and amazement.  She told me, “It’s not done yet Bacon. Keep waiting for it.”  Again this wait for it.  Wait for what?  What could be that interesting to get up at this ungodly hour?  Then there was a shift in the atmosphere.  Something changed but I couldn’t put my hoof on it.

I slowly got up out of mom’s lap and walked to the edge of the deck overlooking my backyard kingdom.  That’s when I saw it.  I looked at mom and she looked at me.  The blackness of the night started slowly fading away.  A white tinge was started to peak out from the night.  It was slow at first but as we watched minute by minute it started getting lighter outside.  Before I knew it, the night time had disappeared and the daylight had appeared out of nowhere.  WOW!  I could see my magical backyard in full light.  I looked at mom, did a little wiggle and pleaded, “Do it again mom!”  I went back and snuggled up in mom’s lap again.  We sat there for a long time, mom drinking her coffee petting me and I looking at the amazement of another great day.

Shopping Around the World

My friend Fozzie and I have scheduled a group posting today of Shopping Around the World.   We thought it would be interesting to see the differences between different countries all over.

Here are our prices for the following from our area – Georgia USA:

  • Price of internet for one month.  We are pretty fortunate here at the Hotel Thompson.  Our monthly internet service runs us around $15.00 a month.  We run my laptop, dad’s i-pad, mom’s computer and mom’s i-phone off of it.
  • A pint of Ben & Jerry’s.  If you don’t have Ben & Jerry’s, post what you do have.  Ben & Jerry’s is right up there with Häägen Dazs here.  It runs about $4.00 a pint.
  • A six pack of Coca Cola.  Mom just bought some at the market last week on sale.  On sale, they run about $1.99 – off sale $2.99 each
  • Coffee.  Whatever brand you buy, just be sure to list the brand and size.  Mom and dad usually get Eight O’Clock coffee.  It runs $6.00 for a 12 ounce bag.  If they are lucky, sometimes they can get it buy one get one free.
  • A regular sized Snickers candy bar.  $0.80 each
  • Grooming.  🙂 Most of us anipals get groomed.  How much does it normally cost you to go to the spa?  Snorts.  The last time Mouse Girl (one of the purr things here) went, it cost $40.00 – :O  This was for a wash, cut, groom and dry.  She’s girly like that – PLOL (piggy laughing out loud).  The last time I went, I cost $25.00.  There’s not much to fluffing a pig – snorts.

Are you surprised at any of the prices above?  Do tell.  If you have suggestions for the next Shopping Around the World – please email them to me at baconthompson@gmail.com
