Bacon’s Show and Tell – REMINDER

Thanks to everyone that participated in my Bacon’s Show and Tell for October – did you have fun?  I know we did here at the Hotel Thompson. We absolutely LOVE these Show and Tell pictures.

For November – we want to see party pictures.  Since this is Thanksgiving, let’s focus on that.  What did you and your family do for Thanksgiving – or any other big holiday where you are.  Did your family get together?  Did you go out to eat?  Did you cook out?

Let’s share pictures and stories of what we did.

Mark your calendars for Monday, November 30th to join Bacon’s Show and Tell.  Remember to link back to my blog – See you here!

Bacon’s Show and Tell

Thank you so very much my friends for making Bacon’s Show and Tell a great place to be every month.  This month for Bacon’s Show and Tell we are going to highlight Halloween.  What did you do for Halloween as a child?  Did you trick or treat door to door, go to a Halloween festival or did you stay at home?  This month let’s share what we did and show pictures – costumes, movies, whatever your favorite Halloween captured.

BOO!  Mom never celebrated Halloween per say when she was growing up.  She says that she went out one time during her childhood – it was cold and wet and she hated.  And what did she dress up as that one time?  You won’t believe it – a CLOWN!  Can you believe that?

After that ill fated time trick or treating door to door, her parents got smart.  Why go door to door and worry about your child when you can keep them home to have fun.  So from then on, mom and siblings told their parents what kind of candy they wanted and their parents bought it for them so they could have it on Halloween.  As their dad passed out candy to the regular trick or treaters, mom and her siblings had pizza, ate candy and watched scary movies on television.  Those are some of her best memories – watching the likes of Vincent Price, Lon Chaney, Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi just to name a few.  I even found this picture of mom during her teenage years.

Pay it Forward

Okay Friends – Here We Go!

My sweet friends at Nikitaland have started this monthly issue of Pay It Forward.  We asked for you to keep this in mind all month and to share things here today on what you have been able to do.  Paying it forward is not for bragging purposes – it’s an attempt to show how many different things we can do to pay it forward – lots of them don’t even include money.  Gestures that we take for granite may be a God send to another person.  So here we go – I’ll start on what mommy has done in the past month.

Mom *always* buys breakfast for at least one person during the month in a drive thru.  This month wasn’t any different 🙂  She bought breakfast for the guy behind her in line at the drive thru and left him a pay it forward card.

Dad brought the trash cans up from the drive for us and the neighbor.

Mom left a card in the mailbox for the mail lady with a piece of chocolate once during the month as an appreciation gift.

Mom also fixed all six of her supervisors at work a treat bag for St. Patrick’s Day.  They had green shot glasses and some candy.  They were a huge hit and everyone seemed like they really enjoyed them.

AND, they were easy 🙂  All 6 shot glasses with candy wrapped in green paper cost only around $5.00

And this month mommy did something for daddy too.  She surprised him with dinner one night to a place that he really enjoys.  She took off work early, pick him up and they went off in Albert the Smart Car. She didn’t even tell him she was leaving work early that day.  It was a great surprise and daddy had an awesome time!

Thanks my friends for reading and supporting the Pay it Forward mission.  What did YOU do this month to make a difference?  Please post on your page and link back so everyone can see that it takes everyone making a small part to do a great dent!

My buddy Nikitaland made up a good deeds sheet.  You can get it here.  You can print it, hang it on your fridge and just jot some things down that you do during the month.  That way at our next meet up, you can share what you have done to PAY IT FORWARD.

AND if you are interested in getting some Pay it Forward bracelets, check out Nikitaland’s post here for ordering information.  Believe me friends – WE CAN ALL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Next meet up will be Friday, May 1, 2015 – mark your calendars!

Bacon’s Show and Tell

For Bacon’s Show and Tell for March we are focusing on another great toy you had from childhood.  Mom and dad both had this toy.  They played with it for hours – you could mess things up, redo the picture, write stuff and draw beautiful pictures… if you were talented – snorts.  What was this awesome toy you are asking.

An Etch-A-Sketch.  Do you remember them now?  Oh my pigs.  Mommy got a dreamy look on her face as she reminisced about her memories.  One of her favorite things was going line by line only moving inches at a time to the left to make the entire screen blacked out.  What a thrill that was when you couldn’t see any part of the screen – snorts – mom was so easily amused for sure.  She said that hers got broken because one of her brothers stepped on the glass part.  Another toy that had a brief life expectancy but was fun while she had it.

Dad remembers playing with his as well.  He had more talent… I guess you could call it that… and he would draw on his.  Now, I’m not saying that you would recognize the pictures – snorts – but he would attempt at it.  And then write messages on it and erase them to keep them secret.  He doesn’t remember what happened to his childhood inspiration.  It’s probably a good thing.

Can’t wait to visit other blogs and see what they had as one of their cherished toys from childhood.  Hope you had fun this month my friends!

NNNOOOO!

Daddy NNNOOO!  Don’t eat those bird eggs.  That’s what I was squealing to daddy and running back/forth to mommy so she could stop him.  I saw this cup on the living room table and peeked in.  It had bird eggs in it.  A sure sign that Spring is here, right?

But oh no!  Daddy picked one up and oh my piggy heavens – THUD.  He ate it.  Right in front of me. He ate a bird egg!  I couldn’t believe it and almost passed out.

Thank goodness mommy finally came in the front room and I showed it to her.  She explained these were candy.  Candy?!  Okay candy peeps – you almost gave this oinker a heart attack.  Have you seen your humans eat anything like this yet??

Grocery Shopping Scare

IMG_0725.JPG

Oh dear piggy heavens!  I heard mommy screaming all the way inside of the Hotel Thompson last night.  She stopped on the way home at our local market for some supplies.  She loaded the groceries up in the back of her Smart car Albert like normal.  When she got home, she opened the trunk area of Albert and look who was in the bag of groceries.  Mommy said she almost wizzed herself.  How did Don Juan get into that bag and during the day time?  Squeals and runs for cover.

I’m telling you these elves are evil.  They turn up everywhere all of the time on their own!  I’m getting kind of scared now with Don Juan.  What if he does something like this to me?!  You will hear me squealing all the way to Australia.  I’m just telling you – the little guy freaks me out – totally!

He just better be glad he didn’t get into mom’s secret stash of white fudge covered Oreo’s.  I attached pictures for you to drool look over.  Licks piggy lips.

Bacon’s Show and Tell

Today for Bacon’s Show and Tell we are highlighting a special treat you got while growing up.  This is great!

When mom was little many, many, many, many moons ago – snorts, her parents would always give her Necco candy wafers.  Necco’s are thin little wafers that came in all kinds of flavors.  Mom’s favorite was the assortment followed closely by chocolate – yummy!  Mom’s mom and dad would buy these as a special treat.  They were tiny, came in a roll and were pretty cheap considering.  It was the perfect sugary treat.

To this day, if mom and dad are out and about and see them, daddy continues the tradition and buys mom a roll – ❤ sweet huh?

They started making Necco wafers in 1847 – of course that was WAY beyond mom’s time… I think – snorts.  According to the Necco web page, today they make over 630 million Necco wafers a year!  That’s enough placed edge to edge would go around the world twice.  Isn’t that amazing!?

Have you ever had one of these?  If you ever see them in the store, we highly recommend them.  I myself have tried them and find them delicious – and crunchy!
