Spotlight Thursday
Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY. This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better. Some of them, you may already know. We hope that you enjoy this series!
Name: Sugar (Goffin’s Cockatoo)

Age: at least 25 years (as a rescue, we’re not sure, but he was born before the import ban of wild-caught birds)
Location: Colorado
Web/Blog Page: https://peacewithmylife.com/
What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents? I was so depressed at the rescue that I didn’t care much if I had new parents or not. The rescue had taken away my mate, and the boy I adored forever (a man, now) didn’t love me anymore. I was too sad to care.
What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home? When they let me out of my cage to fly around the house, I knew that I wanted to stay and it would all be okay. Flying fixes everything!
What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home? Probably the time I bit mom so deeply that she bled a lot, cursed a little, and had to go to get a tetanus shot. I’ve got a powerful beak, you know. I’d bitten everyone by then, and no one liked me; I thought they were going to send me away like the boy did (*hangs head in shame*). I’m so happy they kept me. I don’t bite anymore. Much.
Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why? Definitely Mom! I spend a lot of time on her shoulder, and I supervise all her work on the computer. We usually eat together, too, which I just love! I test everything she eats!
What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you? They think that just because I’m old, I’m grown up. What are they thinking? I’m a cockatoo! We never really grow up!

Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!

Spotlight Thursday
Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY. This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better. Some of them, you may already know. We hope that you enjoy this series!
Name: Sundae Keen
Age: 7 years
Location: Southeast Virginia
Web/Blog Page: http://www.thesedaysofmine.com/
What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents? My mom came to the Humane Society alone. I heard her tell the ladies working there that she didn’t really care what color kitty adopted her, that she just wanted a lap kitty. The volunteers took me out of my cage and handed me to my mom, and I immediately lay down in her lap. She was hooked!
What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home? When I got to my new home, I had all the necessities: food, water, a litter box. But I could tell that my mom was concerned about me. I cried a lot the first few nights. And I heard my dad remind her that everything here was new to me. He said that I’d been used to living in a cage, and now I had free run of a big house, and that I would adjust in time. So I knew they both cared about me.
What has been yo
ur biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home? Sometimes I decide to run down our (long) hallway in the middle of the night and “sing the song of my people” as loudly as I can. I don’t think my parents take too kindly to my running and singing, especially that time of night.
Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why? Definitely my mom. I’ve heard them say that the kitty they had before me (Beezy) was very docile, whereas I’m more of a little spitfire. I really think my dad would like me to be more gentle and loving.
What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you? Hmmm… that’s a tough question. I’m pretty good when we have company. But, I do have a bad habit of nipping people sometime when they’re playing with me. So, I guess the misconception would be that that I’m not going to bite. (I know: I need to work on that bad habit.)

Snorts! By the time you read this my friends, I will have left the building… AKA Hotel Thompson. We have a surprise coming here to the Hotel Thompson… or should I say someone coming here – snorts with piggy laughter. I’m keeping my snout shut though and not saying a word about who it might be.
And this time of the year makes me ill. You might have heard that from me before. And I do have something to say. After this picture was snapped, I might have snapped myself at daddy and bit him. Don’t worry – it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t the first time in the past couple of weeks. (This picture was taken last week). I’ve had a few aggression problems lately with this weather – some days cool and some days hot. So mom called my friends that I went to the camp with last year and they have suggested me come and visit them for about a week. Which is really good since mom/dad have friends coming anyway – that way they can play with them more and I can take some time to run with fellow anipals. Make sense huh?
But don’t worry. Everything will work out – I’m sure of it. And I’m taking my laptop with me so I can check in and still have fun my friends. Think about me okay. Love you guys. ❤ XOXO – Bacon

I don’t go on Craig’s List very often. In fact, I tend to steer clear of it and the entire mess it can be. But this ad I couldn’t pass up. I thought it was hilarious and had to share. It sounds like something my daddy would do – snorts.

I made a big HUGE mistake a couple of days ago.
I’ve spent the past days reflecting and trying to make it up to mommy. I can’t tell her I’m sorry enough. It was an accident and she does believe that. She knows that I would absolutely not hurt her or anyone else in any way. And we’ve talked about it and she told me there was nothing to forgive. It was an accident all the way and she couldn’t be mad at the cutest little piggy in the world. That’s how I can tell she wasn’t mad – she’s been calling me that since she adopted me 🙂 When she calls me that, everything is right in the world, you know?
You see last Friday morning started like any other.
I got up and mom fixed me my Cheerios and piggy chow. After I ate, I jumped on the sofa and we snuggled together watching the morning news. And then it was time for her to get ready for the worky place. This is where uh-oh took place. 😦
Mom *always* gives me a couple of animal crackers before I go back to bed in my room for my morning nap. She hand fed me one while I was on the couch and everything was fine. The second one she hand fed me, I kind of sort of nipped her thumb.
I’m not sure who was more surprised, mom and me. I know it as soon as I did it. To her defense, she didn’t make a big fuss over it, she didn’t yell or get mad at me or anything. She patted my head with her other hand and said, “Let’s go to bed Bacon.” Of course, I being the obedient pig I am went down the hall and went to bed.
That’s when I heard it. Mom told dad she had an ouchie. I could hear them through my bedroom door talking in the bathroom. Mom thought I just nipped her on the front part of her nail on her right thumb. What she didn’t realize until
she was in the bathroom with daddy was that I actually got her on the back of the thumb too. That was the big boo boo. Daddy said he couldn’t kiss it enough to make it better. I felt so bad! Daddy put a bandaid on her thumb and doctored mom up sending her off tot he worky place.
I know people don’t think we have teeth but we do. And where I’ve been losing my baby teeth and regrowing my new ones, they are sharp and edgy. Again, I didn’t mean to do it. And of course, mom didn’t mean to put her finger in my mouth. It just kind of happened and it was really quick.
Daddy doctored up mommy and she’s fine now. It is almost healed. A little tender still at times but nothing like it was when it happened. She had a sore hoove for a while but now it’s like it never happened. That’s a good thing, right?
