Squirrels, Rabbits and Bigfoot – OH MY!

At the Hotel Thompson, we have a lot of woods in the back yard. It’s a good thing for privacy. There’s also a small creek that runs behind the property line. That’s a bad thing for the long slithery things that come out of it wanting to venture into our back yard – shivers. But, there’s other animal life back there. I’ve seen it all from my window in my bedroom.

There’s squirrels that hang out playing tree games jumping around and secretly taking our pictures for their photo albums. Sometimes they come up on the deck asking to borrow a cup of nuts. Personally, I think that Journalist Rocky the Squirrel sends over his family to sponge off of mom and dad. I’m just sayin’ – snort.

There’s also a family of rabbits that play in the woods and come into the back yard. They are fast. Last year, they were all babies and this year they have now grown up into beautiful adults.

Mom throws out bread and seed for them to eat. And, they love the clover in the back yard. There’s lots of that for their little buffet meals.

And let’s talk about frogs. Oh thud – the frogs are so loud at night! You can hear them from the creek croaking at night. It kind of calms you down a bit and it’s memorizing.

Other times you just want to hang out the back door and yell, “I’m fixing frog legs tonight, any takers?” Just piggy joking. We wouldn’t do that – PLOL (Pig Laughing out Loud).

And then, the other night we saw something that was unique and interesting. Mom, the ever ready camera gal, took a picture. Of course it came out blurry. I mean, come on it wouldn’t be a sighting if it wasn’t blurry, right – snort? There it was walking slowly through the back yard. It looked directly at her. I was in my room watching and it scared me so bad. What was it you ask. Are you ready for this? It’s unbelievable!

PIGGY DOWN! I was in shock. It had all of the signs of the legendary Bigfoot. Camera picture blurry, tall, hairy – it was BIGFOOT.

Then, I took another look. It had a slight resemblance to someone that I recognized. Shucks, all that fuss – my bad. It was just my dad walking through the back yard. Darn it – I was that close to being famous. Oh well, close though. I’ll keep looking. ūüôā

Cow Kitty Space Travel?

So mom was in the kitchen messing around the other day.  Something caught her attention in my magical backyard.  She went over to the window and then started oohing and aahhing like a crazy woman.  She went and grabbed her camera because she said she had to take pictures.

Of what me and dad kept asking her. She kept telling us, “I’ll tell you in a minute. ¬†This is so cool!” ¬†We kept at her though – what is so cool. ¬†Please share your discovery. ¬†It is *my* magical backyard and nothing and no one should be in it… except for maybe Journalist Rocky the Squirrel and perhaps my Bigfoot – but that’s stories for another day – snorts.

.

Finally I put down my hoof and demanded begged for an answer – who or what was in my backyard. ¬†That’s when she said two words – Cow Kitty. ¬†What?! ¬†Cow Kitty from Canada? ¬†You know Cow Kitty that visits my friends Shoko and Kali from Canadian Cats.

How in the world could Cow Kitty get all the way down here in Georgia? ¬†Was there a mysterious space travel? ¬†Did Cow Kitty come via a space ship? ¬†Oh my – look at the resemblance to Cow Kitty. ¬†What do you think – how did Cow Kitty get here in MY magical backyard? ¬†So weird. ¬†I’m off to ponder this for a bit and think about space travel now.

You’ve Been Kidnapped – Who Will Rescue You?

I recently saw this question posted on Facebook and could not resist sharing it here with you my friends.  You are kidnapped and the characters from the last television show are mounting a rescue.  Who are they?

Me – snorts – that would be the folks from Gilligan’s Island – you know the Skipper, Gilligan, the Professor, Mr and Mrs. Howell, Ginger and Mary Ann. ¬†What does that mean. ¬†It means I’m never getting rescued – snorts with piggy laughter.

Mom/Dad – This is hilarious. ¬†Mom/dad watch this show at night when they go to bed called Mountain Monsters. They love that show! ¬†You’ve got the guys – Trapper, Jeff, Willy, Wild Bill, Buck and Huckleberry. ¬†They are from the West Virginia area and track down mysterious sightings of weird creatures and of course Bigfoot. ¬†Their team is called AIMS (Appalachian Investigators of Mysterious Sightings). ¬†This is going on their 3rd season. ¬†If anything, mom/dad’s rescue would be a hoot full of excitement and adventure. Below I found a picture off the internet on the Destination America website. ¬†Look at these guys – don’t you want to be rescued by them too?

Guess Who Came Home?!

Bashful, Chip, Willow and Sky!

I have missed my boys, Bashful and Chip, so very much for the last couple of weeks. ¬†Thank goodness Chip didn’t have any accidents and both behaved themselves while they were visiting our friends Kali and Sholo – the Canadian Cats – in Canada. ¬†They came home a couple of days ago in a box that mom got from the mailbox. ¬†We could hear the party going on in the box and we were all trying our best to open the box. ¬†With mom’s arthritis and dad’s vision problems, we called in back-up in the forms of myself and Houdini. ¬†Eventually, the box was opened. Bashful and Chip jumped out and started talking and giving rockhugs. Then, Willow and Sky were persuaded out of the box.

All of the rock clan were lined up to meet them with hellos and hugs. Everyone was so excited. ¬†They were hungry and thirsty so mom fixed them some Rock Candy and water. ¬†While they ate and drunk, they told us about their adventures in Canada. ¬†Willow and Sky opened up about their lives and what they wanted to do with their future. ¬†Mom explained that Atlanta was not too far away from the Hotel Thompson and there were so many schools for herbalists there that she would look into for Sky’s further training. ¬†Willow and Chip started yawning by this time so I thought it was safe to tuck the little tykes into bed – because you know here in the south, “There’s always tomorrow”.

While mom/dad put the rocks to bed, I looked at the rest of the contents in the box reading a card from Shoko, Kali and their humans.  What a fun time they had!

Look at all of these goodies they sent back home – bandannas, purr thing toys, a card holder, postcards on how to mail a moose (awesome!!) and a bear bell. ¬†Let me tell you my friends Kali and Shoko –

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!

I’ve been looking for a bell that was big enough yet sturdy enough to put on my friendly Bigfoot in my backyard. ¬†He has been sneaking around in my backyard at night after everyone goes to bed. ¬†He’s been scaring the pee-pee out of me for sure!

.

So here we go my friends.  Where in the world will Bashful end up next?  Any guesses?

31 Days of Spook – Mountain Trip to the Unknown

Today, we have a good one my fellow spook lovers. Todays tale is of horror, suspense and screams. This is another true story. This time it’s presented by both mom and dad. You see, many years ago they won a free trip to the great Georgia mountains. It was for four days and three lovely nights. What they don’t tell you is how secluded and how dark those mountain woods really are. They made a date, got directions and ventured out on their little adventure to the Georgia mountains. This picture of the woods is just a short snapshot of the actual long road they went on.

It curved around corners with nothing to see but woods on the left, right, front and behind you. They were told to buy groceries before going to the ‘cabin’ because at night no one really ventures out much. Heck dad said the translation of that really meant, “It’s a small town and everything ‘shuts’ down at dark.”

But look at these roads and how small they were. Mom was driving her SUV vehicle and thank goodness they didn’t meet anyone coming from the other way. Was that a good thing or bad thing? It did mean one thing though. They were truly going to be isolated in the woods by themselves… well maybe perhaps with a stray bear or too and other living animals of the woods. But, that’s horror story for another time. They eventually found the secluded cabin and it was a good thing too because it was getting dark… and cold.

The cabin was actually up on a hill. Mom said that it actually looked kind of spooky. What do you think? They brought in all of the groceries and tried to settle in for the night. Dad went outside alone to get some firewood. He didn’t stay outside alone for very long. He said he kept hearing rustling in the woods and strange knocking sounds. Was it Bigfoot? A bear? Spooks? He didn’t say anything to mom when he went back inside. He just started a fire in the fireplace and poked around the kitchen putting groceries up.

.

By this time, mom was exploring the upstairs portion of the cabin and found the bathroom of her dreams… or any woman’s dreams is what she told me. An old fashioned claw foot tub off of the master bedroom. She yelled down to daddy that she was going to take a soak. She made a bubble bath and got into the tub to relax. The only problem with this tub was that the headrest was facing the door area of the room so your back is towards the door. It wouldn’t make sense to put your head where the faucet handles were. But on the other hand, it felt kind of strange with your back to the door so she shut the door. After a few minutes, she heard the door open and was just talking away to daddy about how nice and relaxing it was. She didn’t get a reply so she took the washcloth off of her eyes and turned around. No one was there. That bubble bath had to be the quickest in mom’s history. She went downstairs and didn’t say anything to dad knowing how easily he can get spooked.

They fixed their dinner, drunk some wine and put everything away. There was no television in this cabin but daddy had made a really nice fire. They sat on the sofa watching the flames, listening to the embers pop, snuggling and quietly talking. To the left of the fireplace was a small bathroom. They had left the door slightly opened with the light on behind it. Mom saw it first and she didn’t say anything. She saw a dark shadow move under the door. She watched it and after a few minutes she noticed daddy getting really still. Then he saw it. The dark shadow moved from left to right – so fast. Both of them froze and looked at each other not wanting to move. What had they gotten themselves into?

Mom slowly got up from the couch. She tip toed over to the bathroom door, camera in hand just in case she actually caught something mysterious behind the door. She looked at daddy. He held up his hands with three fingers.. slowing moving one down a minute at a time. Mom watched, took a deep breath, aimed the camera, opened the door and clicked away. OMP (oh my pig!) the suspense – Busted!

Let’s just say that it wasn’t Mickey Mouse with the white gloves. But it was a small, tiny, spooky creature of the night – a mouse. Isn’t he just so cute in that picture? I hope he had a good time because he scared the crap out of mom/dad that night. They both decided they had all that they could take that night and went upstairs to bed.

Mom loves old fashioned beds and this was as great as they came. What she didn’t count on was having dad push her on it – snorts. No really, this bed literally sat so high up off the floor – just check out the picture of the bed vs. the nightstand next to it. If you fell out of bed during the middle of the night, you would surely get a concussion… or something worse ūüôā Mommy said that daddy one time went to the other side of the bed and pulled her up on that mountain of a bed. They said their nightly prayers and laid there in that high bed. I didn’t say there was much sleeping going on and no it was anything fun – stop that – it was because they were scared out of their wits! Whatever daddy heard earlier outside started up again. The howling, the knocking and it had started to rain. They could hear the force of the rain hitting against the back window behind their bed. And every once in a while, the thunder would crack and the howling of some tortured animal could be heard vibrating throughout the little cabin. They could hear the pops of tree branches outside their window and the crash of a limb hitting the ground.

All of this with sounds of bumping in the bottom part of the cabin was just too much. Heck, neither one of them were going to go downstairs and investigate things that were bumping in the middle of the night. They both said their little friend the mouse could handle it all himself. There wasn’t much sleep had that night… unless you count clinging to each other out of fear as sleep. And that lovely rain that hit the window all night, it turned into snow. The next morning there was three inches of snow outside.

Needless to say those four days and three lovely nights turned into one overnight trip never to be forgotten. They left first thing the next morning leaving groceries and all. I think they set the world’s record and getting a car warmed up and snow off it to get off that mountain. Mom/dad learned a lot of lessons from this ‘free’ trip.

Lesson 1 – When something is free, it’s not really free if it includes spooks, strange noises and a mouse that doesn’t wear white gloves.

Lesson 2 – Never go to the mountains to a ‘secluded’ cabin in the middle of January.

Lesson 3 – The more the merrier on trips like this. Next time they win a ‘free’ trip that has two bedrooms, invite another couple. Why be scared witless by themselves?

Lesson 4 – This is the most important lesson learned – mom/dad learned that they are not so much mountain people. They much prefer the beach… with people…. hopefully living people at that.
