I’ve told you before my friends. My mom and dad have lost it. Totally. This past weekend was one of “those” adventures – snorts. They were looking for some adventure and wanted to try a place they had never been to before. So they took off in Albert, mom’s little Smart car, and hit the highway. Almost sounds like a song huh – snorts.
They ended up at this place called Mellow Mushroom – it’s a pizza joint which was right up dad’s alley. He ❤ pizza. Mom was somewhat reluctant. First off because they sat right beside exhibit A to the left. Pardon me while I say this but does that ‘mushroom’ look psychedelic? It was kind of disturbing in a weird sense of direction. Mom couldn’t take her eyes off of it. There was just something about it that was just plain weird.
That’s when mom got up to take a closer look at the psychedelic mushroom.
It’s not all its cracked up to be – double snorts. You get it – cracked up. It really is around the head area. What kind of restaurant is this place? Mom shook her head, snapped a couple of pictures and sat down preparing herself for a psychedelic adventure.
P.S. If you are ever out and about and see some crazy lady taking pictures at a restaurant, just call her mom. That will probably be my crazy mom – she takes pictures of *everything* as you will soon see in this post.
Shakes piggy head. At least it’s not all about me now.

Mom has been on this DIEt thing lately. It’s going okay. As she says, it’s all about choices. So today she choose a Greek salad to start her meal.
Exhibit B to the left here. She says if she starts with a good salad, it fills her so she doesn’t eat too much of a bad thing.
Which is good – I guess if you are living a DIEt kind of life. Mom did say that this salad was delicious! It had everything she loves – lettuce, mushrooms (which didn’t look scary like exhibit A), olives, peppers and feta cheese.
.
Dad on the other hoof, went with a cheese covered pretzel. See exhibit C here to the right. Not only was it delicious and cheesy, they served it with a beer cheese dipping sauce. It must have been great because daddy licked the cheese sauce dry and there were no crumbs left from the pretzel.
Which is good because mommy kept watching him waiting for something to drop. So much for eating a nice decent sensible salad huh?
.
Now cam
e the main course. Mom and dad can never agree upon toppings for their pizza. There solution is to always get a pie 1/2 and 1/2. That way mom can have what she wants and dad can have what he wants. May I present to you exhibit D to the left. Drum roll – tongue hanging out – deliciousness.
Mom got the top side. She ❤ white pizza with cheese, garlic and tomatoes – what’s not to love right?
Dad on the other hoof got the bottom side. He gets the works… something this little piggy can’t discuss and think about. But it looks good. Of course a lot of pizza made it’s way home for lunch the next day.
You have to admit though, mom had hesitation at first with seeing the psychedelic mushroom – or maybe it was because of the psychedelic mushroom – the food was delicious!

The Olde Courthouse Tavern that is – snorts with piggy laughter. This is Wednesday so welcome to Travels in the South my friends. Mom/dad heard about this fabulous restaurant that is a couple of towns over from us called the Olde Courthouse Tavern. They met some friends and visited it a while back and I’ll tell you something, their food porn pictures made my little tummy rumble with excitement. I’m actually going to have to break up this restaurant in a couple of weeks – there was way too many yum yum’s to share. So today, we are going to start with some appetizers.
Dad is a sucker for fried cauliflower. At this point in his life, if this is the only way that mom can get dad to eat his veggies, so be it – snorts with piggy laughter. The restaurant cuts up cauliflower, batters it (of course here in the south you should learn by now we batter and fry anything and everything) and fry until golden brown. They serve the fried cauliflower with a creamy horseradish sauce on the side. Of course, mom/dad asked for extra sauce. Now again, dad has had his share of fried cauliflower over the years so the question is how did this rank with him? Between grunts of yum and rumblings of I can’t get enough, dad said that the restaurant scored BIG time on this appetizer. Dad said it was some of the best fried cauliflower that he has had in some time. Mom was surprised as well. The bites were cut small enough for one bite and the horseradish sauce had just enough kick to say hello without setting your mouth on fire. Both mom/dad loved it!
❤
Anywhere that mom goes and sees pretzels, she has to try them. This restaurant has traditional salt pretzels served with beer cheese sauce, one of mom’s favorites. Mom is pretty picky when it comes to her pretzels. If she is going to indulge in any bread product, it better be good. What did mom say about these? She loved them! The pretzels had just enough salt – they weren’t overpowered like some can be that you immediately need water and they had enough salt where you could taste the salt. The beer cheese was creamy and really added to the pretzels. Even dad couldn’t keep his hands off these pretzels. So score two out of three so far.
❤
Now for the onion rings. Out of the three appetizers, everyone agreed that the onion rings were the least favorite. Don’t get them wrong. They were tasty and crunchy. They looked as fantastic as they tasted. However, they just didn’t have the same pizazz that the other two appetizers had. Yes they would get them again but they wouldn’t be at the top of mom/dad’s list. Now join us next week to check out some entrees that everyone enjoyed – you don’t want to miss it!

Hello friends – welcome back to mom/dad’s Travels in the South. Today is a good one…. snorts – I say that every week don’t I? Rolls with piggy laughter. Well as you know mom/dad have been changing their way of eating. It’s definitely a work in progress for sure. Well, a couple of weeks ago mom took dad out for his birthday. Dad wanted to go to a local steakhouse for dinner.
Dad went for a steak of course ❤ He ordered a prime rib and mom said since it was his birthday he could have french fries. Nice of her huh? Snorts! Mom went with the strawberry fields salad. Doesn’t that look awesome? It has everything in it from nuts to grapes to strawberries to oranges. Yummy huh?

Are you asking yourself, “Self, just what is this creation on Bacon’s Travels in the South this week?” I’m glad you asked my friends. See last week for dad’s birthday, he wanted to go to our local Bojangles where he wanted to try this creation. Now I’m going to let mom describe what it is… she says I don’t need to know what’s inside of it. I think we all knows what that means.
This fabulous looking bowl is called the Pulled Pork Bowl. It starts with Bojangle’s spicy Cajun pintos, then they add a sweet and smoky sauce along with pulled pork and topped with cole slaw. Even I was questioning if this would be good or not. In fact, I tried not to like the taste I got out of the hub unit’s bowl.. but I couldn’t help myself. It was delicious!
So if you have a Bojangles in the area, stop in and try this creation – I think you’ll like it too 🙂

Welcome back my friends for another edition of Travels in the South. Today, I’m going to take you on an inside look at Fozziemom and my mom. Needless to say that these pictures are ‘inside’ pictures at some crazy stuff that might have happened during Fozziemom and Fozziedad’s travels here this past May.
Now when mom/dad got home, I heard my mom/dad bust out in spontaneous laughter all.of.the.time upon certain stories being told. Of course, I didn’t know the entire story until I came across some pictures on mom’s iPhone. Then I was like what in the world were they doing? Were they on drugs? Were they drunk?
I mean do these pictures look ‘normal’ to you? Of course I asked daddy if they were normal. Daddy said that normal was just a word and never to be used to describe mom or Fozziemom. I guess that tells us a lot huh?
.

Dad said that mom and Fozziemom (get this because it’s good) even got out on the side of a mountain road proceeding to dance in these wigs. Closes my eyes and shakes my piggy head. What were they thinking? Can you imagine driving along on some winding roads. You turn a corner and see two strange ladies dancing and singing way out of tune wearing this circus wigs? I don’t know about you but I would be hitting the accelerator a little harder – just sayin’. These two were and are clowns!
But I do want to share some awesome food that everyone had when they finally turned in their wigs and arrived at the beach – snorts with piggy laughter. One of the most simplest appetizers that mom/dad love are bread and beer cheese – yep nods head – beer cheese. This little strips of bread are grilled, buttery and cut into strips. They make the *perfect* dipping accessories for that glorious beer cheese that is so gooey and wonderful – not too strong of beer at all. It was perfect.
And the other picture is one of mom/dad’s favorite foods at the beach – buffalo shrimp. These are shrimp that are lightly battered and deep fried. Once they come out of the fryer, they are tossed in a buffalo sauce just like you would do with hot wings. They are served with blue cheese dressing. Yummo!
Awesome and happiness in these pictures my friends! You can quit licking the screens now 🙂
