Bacon’s Show and Tell

Welcome my friends to today’s Bacon’s Show and Tell.  This month we are highlighting something that is the oldest in your house.  As you know, we have been doing a LOT of renovating here at the Hotel Thompson.  Mom has an antique trunk that came from her mother’s mother – old huh?  Well, mom explored inside of the trunk and found something older than daddy!  Can you believe that?

Here is a newspaper from the Bangor Daily News dated Wednesday, January 2, 1963.  Can you believe that?  If you look close in the upper right hand corner you will even see the cost of the newspaper during this time – EIGHT CENTS!  You might be asking yourself WHY would you have such a paper from such long ago?  My Nana’s family is actually from Bangor, Maine.  Small world huh?

And I told you this newspaper was older than my dad.  It is by 4 days – snorts.  My dad was born on Sunday, January 6, 1963.  What a small world huh?

Bacon’s Show and Tell – REMINDER

Today is going to be a twist to our normal Bacon’s Show and Tell.  This month we are going to highlight something that is the oldest in your house.  It could be a person – snorts watch out daddy of mine.  It could be a special dish that you use only on special occasions.  It could be a picture frame of a loved one.  It could be a dress.  Anything.  What is the oldest thing you have in your house?  Take a picture and share it with a story on April 30th, 2015.  Can’t wait to see what you find my friends.  Have fun!

️Houdini the Beast

Snorts!  With the uproar going on here at the Hotel Thompson, some of our schedules have been a little out of order.  Take for instance little Houdini.  Usually mom puts him to bed around 8:30-9:00PM.  The other night, her and dad were busy cleaning something out.  The little man went to his bedroom and proceeded to bring his bedroom bed – little lobster – to the front room.

He pulled and pushed little lobster out of his room and down the hallway.  I was on the sofa and heard the little guy grunting and groaning.

.

I grabbed mom’s iPhone and started clicking pictures as soon as I saw him turn the corner.  Look at him go!

He was persistent and would flip the little lobster over and then drag it some more.  And then he would push it some more.  He was a machine!

.

He was like “Don’t mind me – little doggy coming through here.”

 ..

.
He went around all obstacles in his way including daddy’s tray and leg.  Nothing was slowing him down.  Yeah – I could have helped the pup out but I wanted to see how far he was going with little lobster in his travels.

He passed the table, grunted and groaned.  Looked around and did what I have to say is the cutest thing for a puppy.  He was like if mom/dad aren’t going to put me to bed and go to bed themselves guess what?  I’m going to do it myself and be in the middle of everything because you know something might happen that I need to know about.

.

And there you go.  He curled up in little lobster, said his nightly prayers and passed out.  I have to admit that the little guy does sleep like an angel.  He didn’t even put on his pajamas.  What a trooper huh?

When mom came back in the room she was look WOW – he’s so smart.  He put his ownself to bed.  Then she shook her head and looked at his huge Kong bed that stays in the front room.  Asleep on the Kong bed was Mouse Girl.  The little guy didn’t want to wake up Mouse Girl so he got his own bed.

aaww – you gotta love the little guy, right?

What the Pig!?

Hello friends. Mom is still in her imprisonment called Jury Duty. Yesterday was unbelievable. I finally persuaded mommy to write about her experience and hopefully she will next week. She just has to because it’s gotten so hilarious. But I digress as usual. This post today is about me.

Snorts. Isn’t it always about me? Well that’s what my dad tells me. Every night when mom puts me to bed, I always get a snack of some kind. It can be something simple like a cracker, an apple, a banana or a strawberry. You just never know.

Well last night there we were in the bedroom and mom gave me an animal cracker. She was laughing and we both had to do a double take. Something is up in the animal cracker world. Is this how they make animal crackers? Snorts and rolls with laughter.

Mom’s New Friend

My silly mommy – snorts.  She got a package in the mail yesterday.  It was one of the things she ordered off of her Amazon account. She ripped the package open – and I helped in anticipation 🙂

That’s when I saw it.  Another pink imposter of a pig.  I say imposter because I’m the only *real* pig around the Hotel Thompson.  This thingy mom said she needed for work.  Yeah, shakes my head to the left and right.  Whatever gets you through the day mommy dearest.

Personally, I think you bought it just so it will remind you that you have me at home… waiting for you at the end of the day.  Yeah, that’s it.  A reminder of me… minus *my* long furry tail… minus the luxury black velvet color of *my* fur… minus my cute little marking on *my* snout… minus my little white skunk patch on *my* forehead.  Sure.  I can see how this imposter reminds you of ME.

Snorts, sticks his tongue out and goes to *my* room to pout.  Perhaps daddy should tuck me into bed tonight and read me a bedtime story.  You might be too busy playing with your imposter friend.

Bacon’s Show and Tell

Today we are highlighting a toy that you really loved as a child and absolutely could not live without – that you had hours and hours of entertainment.

Today, I want to focus on mommy – the bookworm.  Yep, the bookworm.  As a child, she always had a book in her hand and was reading.  I think that is why it is so important for her to read me a bedtime story at night to this day.

When she was younger, she absolutely loved the Nancy Drew series.  OMP (oh my pig!)  Can you believe that we still have the original book series and the original lunch box here at the Hotel Thompson?  They are in one of her boxes marked childhood.  I’ll even tell you a secret.  Sometimes, she brings them out and reads them to this day.  I’ll be honest with you.  She might have even read some to this little piggy.  Awesome huh?

My Bedtime

Bedtime at the Hotel Thompson is really a good time for me.  You’re probably thinking, “What is that pig talking about now?”  You see, I’m a kid at heart but when it comes to bedtime mommy makes it fun.  Therefore, I don’t mind going to bed.  Does that make sense now to you?  No?  Okay, here’s the scoop.

When mommy tells me it’s bedtime and to go get ready for bed, I usually jump off of the sofa where I’ve been sitting with her and stumble down the hall to my bedroom.  I do my business on my wizzy pad, yawn a couple of times and jump in bed.  Then mom comes in, tucks me in and reads me a story until I fall asleep.  See picture to the left – that’s me all smiling from my bedtime story.  And yes, that’s my favorite king size Egyptian cotton sheet.  I ❤ that sheet!

Then after I’m asleep, sometimes mom goes into the connecting room to my bedroom.  She turns on her little pink light and keeps the door open so she can see me.  And yes I said pink light – snorts.  She likes the ‘lightness’ of the lamp and you know the full light would wake this little oinker.  Then she starts her writing.  Now, when she does this you would think that it would wake me up but it doesn’t.  It’s kind of like when humans fall asleep with the fan on in their bedroom.  It’s what they call ‘white noise’ and helps you sleep.  And if mom is working up a storm, the tap-tap-tap of the keyboard is like this ‘white noise’ to me.  It kind of comforts me.  For you to experience it this ‘white noise’, I had mom record it for you.  Tell me what you think.  Is it comforting to you?

One of “Those” Nights

Last night started off like it normally does.  Mom ran around the house getting everything ready for Monday – the start of another glorious week – rolls piggy eyes.  She told me to get ready for bed and I did.  Mom then came in and gave me a strawberry and told me a short bedtime story.  You know – the normal things for this little piggy.  After my story, she kissed me on the forehead, told me good night, she loved me and left my room.

I wasn’t all the way asleep yet though.  I tried to go to sleep.  I closed my eyes tight and dreamed about my sweet purr thing.  I dreamed about chasing sheep over fences.  I even tried to focus on my counting skills.  But nope – nothing.  Sleep just wouldn’t come.

So I did what all little piggies do.  I pulled up my Egyptian cotton sheet around me and let the silk rub against my piggy skin.  It was nice and cozy!  Then out of the blue – BAM – it hit me.  I had to tinkle.  Why do you do that nature?  Why when you get the most comfortable surroundedby your silk sheets do you hit us and we have to go tinkle?  Explain that.

So you get up, stumble over to your wee-wee pad and take a wizzle.  And yes for the first time I will show you a picture of me wizzing.  Why?  Because that mother of mine doesn’t know about BOUNDARIES.  That’s right mom.  Sometimes a pig needs PRIVACY.  Hint – hint.

But do notice my techniques.  Tail up in the back, legs stretched out.  I think it’s a great form and I would give myself a ten – snorts.  And notice the light in the picture.  I didn’t turn on the light.  This light is from a piggy nightlight that my cousin Sammy sent me a while back.  I ❤ that nightlight.  Thanks cousin!

So you take care of “When Nature Calls” and then you are in a pickle.  I mean, mommy already tucked me in and now she’s asleep.  I’ve done my business but I need some mommy loving.  I do what I do best.  I pitter patter over to my bedroom door and call for her by snorting and stomping.  This concerns her so she rushes to me.  I think I have her trained… you think?

So mommy came back in my room to tuck me back into bed.  But now I’m thirsty – go figure.  I am a kid at heart – snorts.  I convince her that I need a drink and just a little snack before bed… again.  We walk to that heavenly place that I like to call a kitchen and get some water and Animal Crackers.  See, mommy *thinks* she has me trained.  Don’t tell her it’s the other way around okay.

Then when go back to my bedroom where she tucks me back in to bed and wraps my Egyptian cotton sheet all around me like the original piggy in a blanket.   Aaaww – that feels good.

But not only does mom wrap me up and tuck me in, she talks to me and pets me until I go back to sleep – for good this time.  Can you say contented little man?  Yep, that would be me friends.  Contentment shows in this picture.  And believe it or not, this time Mother Nature didn’t interfere.

Mommy waited until I was fast asleep and could feel my tummy going up and down in a pattern before she left my room.  In fact, I don’t remember her leaving because I was asleep dreaming.  Dreaming about my magical backyard… my friends out in the yard – Rocky the Squirrel, my Unicorn and my Bigfoot.  We were all playing and chasing each other.  Nice dream.

So have you ever had difficulties like this in getting to sleep?
