Remember Me Thursday

Today September 22nd is Remember Me Thursday.

This is a very important date to remember all of the lost animals that didn’t find their forever homes.  Each year, animals are euthanized because they are unwanted.

Today, let’s light a candle and keep it going to remember them.  It takes all of us to do our part in making sure animals get as much love as they need and find their forever parents.  Did you adopt your current anipal into their forever home or did they adopt YOU?  Maybe today, lean a paw at your local shelter and/or make a donation to help.

Hold your babies tight today and say a little prayer my friends.  Continue the light and be their voice!  It takes all of us doing our part.  Thanks my friends!

Spotlight Thursday – Meet Charlee and Chaplin

Spotlight Thursday

Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY.  This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better.  Some of them, you may already know.  We hope that you enjoy this series!

Name: We wrote a haiku about ourselves! Charlee and Chaplin
Two-toned cats in black and white
The Hipster Kitties

Age:  Charlee: We are exactly fifteen weeks old as of June 7th.
Chaplin: Yes, we’re still babies.
Charlee: Which I think means that nothing we do goes on our permanent records.
Chaplin: Yes, that’s right, Charlee. I looked it up.

Location:  Charlee: The San Diego area.
Chaplin: I thought it was Oceanside.
Charlee: Same thing.
Chaplin: Oh, okay.

Web/Blog Page:  Charlee: We wrote a free verse about it!
You can find us on Dennis’s Diary of Destruction
Which is at http://www.dennisthevizsla.com.
Although we should confess

That we haven’t seen Dennis destroy anything
Yet
Except for some scattered papers
That probably had it coming.

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents?  Chaplin: It was when we were being kept in a big crate in the foster care office at the shelter.
Charlee: We were very young and very small.
Chaplin: They kept wanting to hold us.
Charlee: I think my first thought was, “Put me down.”
Chaplin: My first thought was “Why are these people recording our meows? Is it because they know we’re a great poetry team?”
Charlee: Later, of course, we found out it was because they were playing the meows back for Dennis at his meal times, to prepare him for our arrival.
Chaplin: I don’t think he appreciated the poems.
Charlee: I think he appreciated the meals, though.

What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home?  Chaplin: Probably when they put up not one cat tree for us, but two cat trees.
Charlee: And a cat hammock with a scratching post!
Chaplin: You don’t commit to that kind of infrastructure for kittens who aren’t sticking around.

What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home?  Chaplin: Probably when I let Dennis start sniffing me. Once you have dog breath all over you, I’m told, you can never get elected Cat President.
Charlee: Being Cat President is overrated.
Chaplin: How do you know that?
Charlee: Next question please.

Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why?  Chaplin: Totally mom, because she likes to lie on the couch under a fleecy blanket and I like to make biscuits on the fleecy blanket, so I spend a lot of time on her lap purring and kneading dough.
Charlee: Totally dad. And I didn’t even have to do anything, either, except have a mustache.
Chaplin: You do things. I’ve seen you purring and rolling around on your back asking for belly scratches.
Charlee: That’s so he can see that my mustache looks like a three-leaf clover when I’m upside-down. Extra cuteness points.
Chaplin: Brilliant.

What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you?  Charlee: Mom and dad think we’re just hipster poet kittens, but we’re really hipster poet performance artist kittens.
Chaplin: We keep doing interpretive dance for them, but they don’t get it.
Charlee: Yes, they just think we’re just wrestling.
Chaplin: We wrote a limerick about it.

There once were two cats who were dancing,
Pirouetting and mewing and prancing.
The humans kept saying,
“Oh how cute, they’re playing!”
And missed all the choreographing.

Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!

No offense my friends.  I couldn’t help not sharing this today – so appropriate and out of the mouth of innocent babes – snorts.

I Have Proof!

Can you say busted?!  I knew there were chickens living near me.  I’ve heard them.  I’ve seen them.  But of course when anyone of importance comes by for a visit, they can’t be found or heard.  Well there they are.  The proof is in the picture… or my front yard.  Mom was going to the car the other day and saw them.  She took this picture.  And although it is fuzzy (she’s not as good as me taking pictures), you can see them!  There is a mom and babies.  See the little balls in the middle – babies!

These are what I’ve been hearing right near my bedroom window.  They belong to the neighbor next door.  When mom tried to get closer, they ran in their backyard.  So there you go – PROOF of the ‘farm’ next door.

Now, I’m off to make lunch plans.  For some reason, I’m craving a two piece snack with not so many feathers – snorts with piggy laughter.

Oh and P.S.  I’ve now turned this investigation over to Hemi here at the Hotel Thompson.  He told me he could get ‘clearer’ pictures.  Shaking my head.  He always has to try to ‘up me’ on one.  Let’s see if he can this time.

I Can’t Do That Again For A While

WOW – Big mistake.  I just can’t do this again for a while.  Yesterday while mom was off from the worky place, she let me pick the movie for movie night.  I know we’ve seen this I can’t tell you – a hundred times.  But, it *never* gets old… until yesterday.  You talk about crying.  Mommy started crying on the couch, I started whimpering and dad just had no clue.  This movie really movies us.

Charlotte’s Web was written by E.B. White and published in 1952. I picked the Dakota Fanning movie to watch yesterday.  WOW – I can so see myself in that movie.  The movie starts off with a mommy piggy having babies.  There is a runt – swallow – that the farmer doesn’t believe is going to make it so he is going to slaughter him until his daughter Fern adopts the little runt and names him Wilbur.  See, I was a runt.  What if they had done this to me?  I’m so glad mommy adopted me early in my life.

Wilbur grows up quickly and Fern has to let him go to live across the street in the barn at the Zuckerman farm, which is Fern’s uncle.  Little Wilbur is so alone and no one wants anything to do with him.  That is, until he hears a voice.  A kind and sweet voice from above.  Wilbur learns that the voice is actually Charlotte A. Cavatica (Charlotte for short) who is a spider.  They begin a friendship and some of the other barn animals let it out that a spring pig doesn’t get to see the winter snow.  Wilburn learns that his ultimate escape from being slaughtered at birth is something that is coming back to haunt him once again.

Charlotte comes up with a plan to write words in her web to show how much of a special pig Wilbur really is.  Charlotte gets Templeton (the barnyard rat) to help her out by gathering inspiration for messages in her webs.  This all leads to Wilbur being entered into the county fair in hopes of winning so he won’t be – gulp – slaughtered.  Charlotte and Templeton go with Wilbur to the fair and Charlotte does another amazing web.

This is the tear jerker part.  Charlotte is carrying babies.  She does this one last thing for Wilbur because she promised to help him.  She crawls up in the rafters and lays her egg sac which has her unborn off spring.  She dies and it’s up to Wilbur and Templeton to get the babies and bring them back to the barn.  OMP (oh my pig).  I’m crying as I type this.

Wilbur is spared being slaughtered but is so disheartened at the loss of his great friend Charlotte.  As time goes by, the babies hatch from their egg sac – 100’s of them.  They all fly away except for three that are named Joy, Nellie and Aranea.  The movie leaves off with Wilbur telling them about their wonderful mother Charlotte.  Not.a.dry.eye.in.the.Hotel.Thompson. my friends.  This movie is so touching.  One of my favorites.

Can you imagine if I had a Charlotte in my life?  What would she write about me?  What would you write about me to save my life?  These things went through my mind and I just cried.

Mommy said she would write “Some Bacon” in her web for me.  aaww – very sweet.

May I Present to You – Madeline

20131119-123344.jpg

Look – look at the piggy babies!  There’s 8 of those cute little guys and girls.  Madeline belongs to a friend of mom’s and she gave birth this past Saturday.  Dontcha just want one?  Just to cuddle and oohh and aawwee?

Mom is getting that “look” in her eye.  You know the one that you humans get when you eyes glass over and water comes out and your heart pitter patters… that’s the one.  I think her pigological clock is stomping again.  Lord help us ALL if she adopts a friend for me – snorts.  Can you imagine the Hotel Thompson with two of us ruling the roost?

Atlanta Zoo – Panda Babies!!

We at the Hotel Thompson have been watching all of the excitement with the Atlanta Zoo and one of their panda’s named Lun Lun.  Lun Lun has been pregnant and actually went into labor Monday, 07/15/2013.  She gave birth to twins at 6:21PM on 07/15/2013.  We’ve been keeping up with all of the excitement of how they rotate the two babies to have time with their mommy.  It’s totally fascinating!  Mom/Dad said they can’t wait to go back to the zoo in the future to check the family out.

I actually did some research on panda’s that I thought would share.  How much of this information did you know?

  • At birth, panda babies only weigh around 4 ounces – that’s like the equivalent to a stick of butter!  They are pink and hairless – just like this picture of one of Lun Lun’s babies.  But although they are small, they can vocalize and make sounds. Can you believe that?
  • Around 25 days after birth, they get a full coat of hair with their black/white markings.
  • Around 75 days, they start getting their first baby teeth.

  • Around 72-76 days, their eyes fully open.
  • At 100 days – according to Chinese tradition for good luck, this is when their names will be announced.
  • Around 3-4 months, they start walking and by 4 months a cub can walk and climb.
  • Around 4 months, they start to eat solid foods and bamboo.
  • Around 5 months, they can run and climb tall objects.
  • At 1 year, they weigh around 50-60 pounds.

This information/pictures were shared from the Zoo Atlanta site here in Atlanta, Georgia.  Mom/dad go there often to visit the animals.  They have a fabulous zoo!  You can find out more information about the zoo at http://www.zooatlanta.org  They even have a panda cam set up so you can watch these wonderful pandas!  Hope you enjoyed it my friends – XOXO – Bacon

Baby Piglets!

20130624-085155.jpgaaww – baby piggies!

Aren’t they just so cute and adorable?! For some reason, I just heart baby piggies. I’m not sure why. I can’t quite put my snout on the reason. They just make me smile and there’s a weird feeling that comes up in my pot belly. It’s strange.

These little piggies are local here in our area. Momma’s friend, Gail, has a niece who works at the Pettit Creek Farms in Cartersville, Georgia. They have all kinds of exotic pets! These little piggies were brought home to get use to handling. Don’t you just want one?

They are totally cute overload! Mommy keeps looking at them with a glazed look on her face. I hope she’s not thinking that I *need* a new brother or sister. Really I don’t. I’m fine with being the one and only piggy at the Hotel Thompson! Can ya’ll help a pig out and convince her of that for me?? Please – XOXO – Bacon
