April 22nd is EARTH DAY. Every year, more than 1 billion people in 175 countries will participate in various Earth Day events on this date. It is the largest civic observance in the world. The purpose is to raise awareness about important environmental issues.
The first Earth Day took place in 1970. After witnessing the affects of an oil spill in Santa Barbara, California, US Senator Gaylord Nelson organized a grassroots environmental teach in on college campuses across the country. Many people believe that this first Earth Day celebration marked the beginning of the modern environmental movement.
Celebrate today – plant a tree, help clean up a beach or park and/or participate in an event near you. Help to keep this world a better place for everyone!
And a little blast from the past you might remember that deals with Earth Day – Captain Planet and the Planeteers. Do you remember this show? It was an American animated environmental program created by Ted Turner, Robert Larkin III and Barbara Pyle. It came out on September 15, 1990.
The basis of the program was set with Gaia – the spirit of the planet. She is awakened by drilling which is above her resting chamber. To control the damage, she sends out five magic rings to youths around the world who will become the Planeteers.
Kwame is from Africa and has the power of Earth with his ring.
Wheeler is from North America and has the power of Fire with his ring.
Linka is from the Soviet Union and has the power of Wind with her ring.
Gi is from Asia and has the power of Water with her ring.
Ma-Ti is from South America and has the power of Heart and telepathy with his ring.
All five can use their rings special powers to call the super hero – Captain Planet for help.
I think today would be the perfect day to check out this old classic of helping the environment!
Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY. This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better. Some of them, you may already know. We hope that you enjoy this series!
What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents? I liked them! The rescue lady didn’t really want to give me up. But I jumped up on Mom’s finger and ran to her shoulder and wouldn’t get off. I liked these people; I knew that they just had to be MY new family!
What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home? When I finally let Mom scratch my head, and she did it just right, I knew I was going to love it here.
What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home? Probably when I sassed Sugar just a little too much, and he thought I’d make a lovely bride. Ha! He doesn’t think THAT anymore. Yuck. I’m done with men.
Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why? I’m a mamma’s girl! We have to hide our love from Sugar, though. Otherwise he’s mean to me. So Mom and I knoodle when he’s not looking.
What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you? The breeder that first owned me thought that he could control my life, but the guy they put in my nest box to mate with me attacked me. Eventually, they gave me to the rescue because I wouldn’t let a guy near me after that. Why do humans think that they can control everything in our lives? Well, I’m here to tell you that I make my own decisions!
Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!

Hello friends. It’s not too late to get some last minute Christmas ideas on your list. Today, I’m going to share some of my Christmas picks. These are things that I have come across that I find fascinating and wonderful. If you have found something this year, please also share. The shopping days are ticking down! ❤
My first pick – knitted gloves. They have these types of gloves in all kinds of different sizes and materials. They have them longer, shorter, with fingers and without fingers. They look fashionable yet let me tell you a little secret. If you have someone you know that has arthritis – they need these types of gloves. I’ve been having a lot of joint pain and my wrists are really bad. These gloves give my wrists just a little bit of warmth and comfort. I wear these with long or short sleeved shirts – in and around the house. Say what you want to the fashionistas in the world – these gloves rock. They are on the top of my list.
And a blessing – you can find these on Amazon at all kinds of different prices – from less than $2.00 to the ones on the higher end of $20.00 – check them out 🙂
Next up – make up. What girl doesn’t love a good quality make up? And yes, I’m confident in myself to show you this fabulous company I have found. I saw an infomercial a while back on IT Cosmetics. I thought it looked interesting and finally broke down and got some make up from them. It came in the mail so quickly and in such a cute little package. I tried it and let me tell you something – I’m never.going.back! This is the best make up that I have tried in my entire life. This coming from a girl that use to only using Clinique products. Now I will tell you that IT Cosmetics are not cheap but they are amazing! I’m showing you my before and after pictures so you can see how beautiful the product works.
I am using Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ (medium). This is your base and goes on like a cream. It does not feel like a foundation at all and look at all of the imperfections in my face that it covers – totally awesome. And a little bit goes a long ways. I then followed this with Bye Bye Pores. This is a powder that really does make your pores disappear and it is so silky. Then I added my regular eye and lip make up. Can you see the difference? Like I said it is costly, these two products I ordered set me back around $60 BUT again a little goes a long way. AND they do not test their products on animals – isn’t that another great plus?!
My final pick – Pony Up Daddy. This is hilarious and I absolutely fell in love with this. At first, I really thought it was a joke. But it’s no joke! How many times have your children or grandchildren wanted to play horsey on your back while you went around the house on all fours? Here you go – a ‘saddle’ that velcros around the horses waist. The child then climbs aboard for the ride of their life. Where has this been all of our lives? I can just see my hub unit using one of these with the kids in our lives – what a blast! Price range – around $25.00 – I’ve seen them on Amazon and at Wal-Mart.
So friends – what have you found for this Christmas season? Please share!
Hello my friends to another great week of Paw Time with Houdini. This week I want to talk about something that is probably important to all of us. Something that us anipals don’t like. Thunderstorms. Shivers. I hate them. The rumble in the sky, the shake of the house, the loud “BOOMS”. Why does Mother Nature have to be so vocal? Why can’t she just thrown down rain or snow or flowers? Why does she have to echo nature outside and scare all of us? I get so bad that I shake and shiver like I’m freezing. I’m not cold. I’m just scared out of my little Yorkie mind.
I was so bad with these loud noises that mom got me what was called a Mellow Shirt from Amazon. I am in no way paid for my personal experience of this Mellow Shirt. The Mellow Shirt is just like the other more popular shirt on the market. This Mellow Shirt wraps around my waist and underneath my chin. It’s secure with Velcro – and who doesn’t like Velcro right? And the Mellow Shirt is not only for thunderstorms or fireworks. It’s also good for us anipals that maybe get a little scared or shaky when riding in the car.
Mom was doubtful that this Mellow Shirt would help me but in trying to make life better for me invested the $20.00 and bought my shirt. The first day she got the shirt, we had a somewhat okay thunderstorm – nothing major – but I was a little shaky. So mom called me over to the ottoman and I got into position for her to put my shirt on my little shaking body. Now, it was different from my t-shirts because it wraps around my waist and Velcro’s securely around me. I have to admit that it did make me feel more secure. And on this day with the slight thunderstorm outside, I didn’t shake. Can you believe that?
We’ve experience several more thunderstorms and this week had one that was on a 10 on a scale of 1 thru 10 with 10 being the worse. This storm had loud BOOMING thunder for about two hours in the evening when mom/dad were in the front room with us anipals watching television. Mom called me over to the ottoman and I knew what to expect. In fact, I beat her to the ottoman as if to say, “Mom, please my Mellow shirt.” And you know what?
I was able to lay down on the couch by myself and when the booming got too much, I found a perfect spot on dad’s shoulders. How was my shaking? Probably around a 2 which is a HUGE difference from before. So my fellow anipals. If you have a fear of thunderstorms like I do, check the Mellow Shirt out on Amazon and leave hints around your house for your humans to get you one. I think you will like it.
Now, may I present to you Jokes with Daddy. Have an awesome weekend friends! ❤

Welcome to our journey to share our goals and our accomplishments and our disappointments and frustrations.
Together we can do this!
Hey friends – Happy Monday. How are you doing today? How was your week?
I’m learning to be nice to myself. To take care of me first and then let others fall closely behind. It’s a hard thing to do but I’m trying and it’s a step by step process. Speaking of step by steps – LOL – I want to talk about something I got last week. It’s a knock off of the Fitbit. You know the little band you wear on your arm day and night that monitors your steps. I can’t say enough nice things about this. It’s awesome. I charged it up Tuesday morning when I got it. The only bad thing I can say is when you charge it, it pops into the charger and getting it out of the charger takes a little flexing. After 45 minutes, it was ready to go.
I put it in the band, downloaded the app to my iPhone, made some updates on the app and there you go – time to forget about it and get on with your day. Now the only time you take the band off is if you are showering (you don’t want to get it wet) or charging it. It connects on your cell phone over Bluetooth. Usually the face is black but I turned it on by a gentle touch to show you how it looks with the time. It shows you the time, the date, steps you have taken and converts the steps into miles for the day. At night, you turn it on sleep mode and it monitors your sleep patterns – how cool is that huh? AND, it has an alarm that vibrates on your wrist every 2-3 hours to remind you to get up and move around if you are to sedentary.
Now, I’m a true lover of this watch and in no way got paid for saying any of these things. I think this ‘knock off’ is ideal – especially when normal Fitbits go for around $130.00 and up. Since I’m a bargain buyer you know that’s just too much for me. I got this sweet band on sale from amazon for – are you ready for this – less than $20.00! It is totally awesome and I’m hoping that it reminds me to move it – move it. In fact the second day I wore it, I was up to over 3,000 steps which is great to me. My goal is to eventually get to 10,000 steps a day.
So my friends, what have you done lately to help yourself out? Have an awesome week – remember WE CAN DO THIS TOGETHER!

Mommy ordered a bunch of ‘stuff’ from Amazon lately. Everything is starting to come in now by mail. I’m just going to throw this out there. Mom needs help. A lot of help. I think she has finally went over the fine line of insanity. You don’t believe me do you?
Look at exhibit A to the left. This is one of the ‘things’ she has ordered lately. Shakes my piggy head. What is she trying to do to me – kill me? I can only roll my piggy eyes so much – snorts.
And I have to remind mommy. She kills grass. Literally – she can’t grow anything. How does she expect this chi-chi chiapig to grow with that insane hair?
I need some help my friends. I think mom may need a intervention. Any suggestions?
My silly mommy – snorts. She got a package in the mail yesterday. It was one of the things she ordered off of her Amazon account. She ripped the package open – and I helped in anticipation 🙂
That’s when I saw it. Another pink imposter of a pig. I say imposter because I’m the only *real* pig around the Hotel Thompson. This thingy mom said she needed for work. Yeah, shakes my head to the left and right. Whatever gets you through the day mommy dearest.
Personally, I think you bought it just so it will remind you that you have me at home… waiting for you at the end of the day. Yeah, that’s it. A reminder of me… minus *my* long furry tail… minus the luxury black velvet color of *my* fur… minus my cute little marking on *my* snout… minus my little white skunk patch on *my* forehead. Sure. I can see how this imposter reminds you of ME.
Snorts, sticks his tongue out and goes to *my* room to pout. Perhaps daddy should tuck me into bed tonight and read me a bedtime story. You might be too busy playing with your imposter friend.
Miniature pot bellied pig and friends - Bacon, Houdini, Hemi and all of the Rock Clan with Journalist Rocky the Squirrel all out looking for adventures from the Hotel Thompson.
