Bacon’s Show and Tell

Thank you so very much my friends for making Bacon’s Show and Tell a great place to be every month.  It takes everyone in blogville to have a party every month 🙂

This month for Bacon’s Show and Tell we are highlighting the funniest gift you have been given.

At Christmas when mom/dad were first starting to date, both sides of parents would have get together’s for dinner and presents.  Around the 2nd or 3rd year of mom/dad dating, they were gathered at mom’s parents house for presents.  They would pass presents around and each person would open them up while others watched.  This particular Christmas had two funny gifts.

One was for mom’s mom (my Nana) that was from dad.  One day dad heard Nana telling Grandpa that she absolutely loved pickles and she couldn’t get enough of them.  Well, dad wanting to please her, fixed her up.  He went to our local Sam’s Club and bought Nana the biggest jar of pickles he could find.  One gallon of awesome dill pickles all to herself.  What a guy huh?

The same Christmas, mom also got a present from daddy.  She opened it up and it held nothing but band-aids and bandages of all assortment.  Mom was confused at most while others wondered too what was this about.  That’s when mom found the card in the box from daddy.  It said, “You look as good to me as a bare ankle to a rattlesnake and I’m going to be all over you.”  Various shades of red on mom’s face can not explain the embarrassment and trying to explain the box without reading the note.

Bacon’s Show and Tell

This month for Bacon’s Show and Tell we are highlighting December.  What we do, traditions, food, parties with friends and family – what special things do we do for the Christmas holidays?

Now mom/dad have been together since Moby Dick was a minnow.  Daddy said that when he was courting mommy, every year for Christmas they would go to mom’s family in the morning with presents and dinner.  Then in the afternoon, they would head to dad’s family for presents and dinner.  It was certainly a full day surrounded by family, food, love and LOTS of people coming/going.

Once mommy decided to let daddy ‘catch her’ and put a ring on her finger by marriage, their house was the gathering point for a couple of years for the family dinner and presents.  Then here and there, moms and dads passed away and it was time for my mom/dad to start making their own ‘family’ tradition.

Since mom/dad don’t have any two legged creatures for Christmas, me and the other anipals here at the Hotel Thompson step up.  Hey, it’s the least we can do for mom/dad, right?  So we leave out little hints – cut outs from pet store magazines, videos from television and paw prints spelling out what we want from Santa.  Then mom/dad have a direct line to Santa and tell him everything.  On Christmas day, we all get up at the crack of dawn and rush to the living room to shred open presents.  It’s a grand time in our day.

Then when we have played with our toys and ate some treats, we anipals take a nap so that mom/dad can do their Christmas.  You ask what?  Well, you just *know* it’s going to involve food – snorts with piggy laughter.

For years now, mom/dad go to a local restaurant for all you can eat CRAB LEGS.  Can you believe that?  How traditional is that?  Not so much but they absolutely love it.  And let me tell you something.  They are serious about their crab legs.  They wear bibs and everything and they have tools.  Tools to eat?!  WOW – I don’t have tools to eat… well unless you count my powerful snout and hooves – snorts with piggy laughter.

   .

But they get buckets of crab made in a spicy boil that are delivered fresh and steaming to their table.  They then throw caution to the wind and get cracking.  Neither one of them throw in the towel until they are happily full of crab meat.

This is their time to spend together, talk about family that have passed, laugh and joke about their days together.  They talk about their life together and drink to years more to come.  They talk about their love for each other.

And talking about love. Mom has bad arthritis in her fingers.  There comes to a point in her crab cracking that those fingers just give out.  And what does daddy do about it?  He will sit there and crack open her crab legs for her to eat.  Now my friends, that is love!

Bacon’s Show and Tell

Thank you so very much my friends for making Bacon’s Show and Tell a great place to be every month.

This month for Bacon’s Show and Tell we are highlighting school.  Now I looked far and wide to come up with some pictures of mom/dad from their school days.  My goodness – we are talking dinosaur age here – snorts with piggy laughter.  But I did find some that I would share with you my friends.  Now trust me, these are good!

.

The first picture is of my dad.  I’ve talked about it before how he was a big football player in his school days.  He absolutely loves the game.  This is him in his football outfit around his senior year, sometime circa 1981.

Handsome and YOUNG huh?  That was his number – 72.  Of course, he made shoulder pads look fashionable – snorts!  He was what my mom called a jock in high school.  She was the exact opposite.  She was what the football players called a nerd – a smartie – the one the football players went to for help in their studies.  Yep, that was my mom.

.

.

This is her picture from graduation way back in 1987.  See that yellow cord?  She was an honor graduate.  Cool huh?  She still has that around the house here somewhere.

So there you go – two pictures from mom/dad’s school time.  Different schools and different times.  There’s no telling though in this small community how many times mom/dad crossed paths while growing up.  All I gotta say is thank goodness they finally did meet up and stay together!

Baby Pictures

Snorts.  Some people have asked me what I looked like as a piglet.  I went through my baby book and picked up some pictures to share.

This is a picture of me when I first came to the Hotel Thompson.  It was taken the day my mom and dad adopted me.  I was three weeks young here.  I immediately fell right to sleep in my mom’s hands on her shoulder.  I couldn’t help it.  I felt safe and loved.  Once upon a time, I was this small.  All cuddly.

I think for the first three months in my life, the only time mom put me down was to sleep, to eat and to use the potty.  I guess that was my baby stages huh?  Notice how small my snout was – it was itty bitty.

.

.

This was a picture of me eating some of my baby food.  I had a mixture of baby food, formula and chow mix here.  This was when I was a little bit older – probably around 9 weeks.  I stayed small for a long time.  Heck, I’m really small considering today’s standards.  I weigh in today at 48 pounds.  That is small considering that some miniature pot bellied piggies get to over 100 pounds!

.

This picture to the left is of my nana holding me.  She called me the original piggy in a blanket – snorts.  I guess I was for a while.  And trust me, I ate this attention up just like a… well an attention hog.  Hey, it’s what I do right?

And I know you are dying to know what was the first picture mom saw of me that reeled her in, aren’t you?  Mom saw these two pictures of me and fell in love instantly.  There was no looking back.  I had her wrapped around my hooves immediately.  Here you go:

Can you believe I was that small?!  Squeal!
