Travels in the South

30 May

Sometimes you just want to try a new restaurant.  Daddy has been seeing a certain restaurant on the television for weeks now and telling mom about it.  With that being said, this another week that I’m going to let daddy discuss his thoughts – take it away daddy!

Thank you Bacon.  I’m glad you understand these things when it comes to food.  After seeing this advertisements on television and pestering asking the wife to go, we looked the restaurant on line to see where the closest one was to the Hotel Thompson.  The closest one was about 25 minutes away from us several towns over.  Now we tried to go on several different occasions but something always came up.  Maybe that was an omen we should have listened to?  You decide.

So we get to this place and it’s a barbeque restaurant where you order in one place, pay and then pick up your food.  We told the person at the counter when we ordered we had never been there before.  They said, “Ah, okay, what would you like”.  And that was that.  No smile, no welcome, no greeting.  Okay, so customer service is not their best.  Some of the best food can still be found in places like this.

I ordered waffle fries, potato salad (I know double potatoes – LOL), ribs, pork and brisket.  The food came out lukewarm.  It was okay – nothing to write home about or put on your list to visit again.

The wife unit ordered something called a frito pie.  It had Frito’s on the bottom, covered with pinto beans and brisket and topped with onion strings and barbeque sauce.  She ordered it the same time I did mine; however, it literally took them about 20 minutes to put something together that the ingredients were all ready.  I personally think they forgot about her and was thinking the next person was going to do it, etc.  It doesn’t look appealing but she really enjoyed it.

So this wasn’t a place we would visit again anytime soon.  Maybe they were having an off day.  We might try it again but it will definitely be some time.

Not going to tell us the name of mystery restaurant? Bad customer service is everything in that industry.

You can look closer at one of the pictures to see the name. Mom wrote the company too. She never received a reply at all. Some customer service huh? XOXO – Bacon

Sheila’s right, the customer service often reflects the quality of the food. What restaurant was this?

It’s on the side of the container, but too small and slanted. Oh well, I probably wouldn’t be going there anyhow since we hardly ever eat out ’cause of all of the hubby’s food allergies.

Trust me – you are so not missing anything here. Snorts with piggy laughter. Even my dad said he didn’t want to go back. *That* says everything doesn’t it? XOXO – Bacon

There is nothing as disappointing as wanting to go to a new restaurant only to be disappointed, where it’s the food or the customer service. In your case it sounds like it was everything.

It really was. We always believe in second chances and if we go back and it’s different, we will blog about that as well. But this was a completely off day for sure. XOXO – Bacon

It is not often you disapprove of a place you go to, so this must have been really, really bad! And I can see why! Their food does not even look appetising … Makes you wonder why they did not make a theme out of it, dress their waiters in “dinner ladies”-uniforms, throw the food on plastic tablets with a loud splash from a huge ladle and grumble you, to go on and not keep up the line.

Snorts with piggy laughter. I could just see your description coming to life. Mom/dad said it really was an off day that particular day at the restaurant. And daddy loves his food but this date, it was not on par at all. XOXO – Bacon

They have a restaurant here (had to zoom the page, lol), but hadn’t had the opportunity to have any of their food. We have a variety of BBQ restaurants here, meaning we have choice. Memphis and KC BBQ is served the most. Hard to find a well-done dry rub BBQ here.

LOL – Mom/dad say we have a vast variety of bbq restaurants here as well. This one advertises like crazy and it might just be this particular location but they weren’t as impressed. There is another restaurant here that is more popular that mom/dad love so much better. XOXO – Bacon

Amen to that! With the volume of different restaurants here, other places will survive. XOXO – Bacon

Without customer service any place is doomed to failure! And with so many restaurants in your area to choose from, they should get their act together!!! 😉

Exactly! There are way too many up and coming places to have bad service and/or food. Other places will survive. XOXO – Bacon
