Travels in Chicago

Last November, mom/dad traveled to Chicago, Illinois.  Or should I say, mom planned a trip and told dad absolutely nothing about it until the car came and picked them up at the Hotel Thompson the morning of departure.  Mom had already packed everything for their adventure.  Why Chicago?  Well first up, my Aunt Tina lives there with my cousin Sherlock Bones.  Second up, daddy has *always* wanted to go to Ditka’s Chicago.  Are you asking yourself what is that?  Well Mike Ditka is a former football player, was an awesome coach and a television commentator.  He coached the Chicago Bears back in the day which was one of dad’s favorite teams.

In the next couple of weeks, we will be highlighting some of the food that everyone enjoyed during their trip to Ditka’s Chicago.

Like in this picture.  This is an appetizer called Coconut Crusted Shrimp.  It is settled in a bang bang sauce with a basil oil.  A little spicy on one hand but delightfully sweet on the other hand to balance the shrimp.  And that is also a piece of fried lemon on top of the shrimp.  It was a wonderful way to start the meal.

Dear Bacon

20130203-195455.jpg
Dear Bacon – I heard me and your mom have something in common. We both like oatmeal pies from Little Debbie. What? You thought I was going to say we both like you didn’t you? Ha! Signed Pux

Dear Pux – Funny one there my friend. Don’t give up your day job. Oh that’s right. You only work one day out of the year. Who’s saying ha! now? Snort

Dear Bacon – Your looking awfully cute these days. Such a nice physique. You must really take good care of yourself. Signed Future Ms Bacon Your Biggest Fan

Dear Fan – You are so sweet to think of me. Thank you so much for your kind comments. You know we would never work. You live out in nature and well I don’t like it. It would be like the new version of Green Acres. But thank you my dear.

Dear Bacon – They tell me that I’m too kind hearted. I let the purr things in this establishment walk all over me. You would do the same thing, wouldn’t you? Signed Tiny

Dear Tiny – Of course I would… for the baby purr things. Now the older ones, that’s another story – snort.  But there’s nothing like being the baby purr things personal jungle gym. Spoil them rotten is what I say.

Dear Bacon – I feel like the humans are mocking me. Something is not right with my house guests here. Signed Corky

Dear Corky – WOW. Your humans do have a sense of humor there with your house guests. I would find it oddly disturbing. LOL

Journal to Healthier Living – Week 7

Welcome my friends.  I’m tweaking my weekly journey with my healthier living.  It’s a step in the right direction for sure.  I hope you come along for the ride.  Instead of day-to-day comments, I’m going to post something from my personal journal to share.  Hope you enjoy.  Remember all of us go down this path and we are all in it together ❤

Week of 02/18-02/24/2018 – Week 7

“Dear Journal – It seems like food choices are beginning to become easier in decision making.  That’s a great and awesome thing.  If you would have told me this time last year I would be choosing water over a soda, I would have laughed at you.  I was so addicted to fully leaded soda!  It’s such a relief to break myself of that addiction.  I don’t have to worry about diet soda… I would much rather drink water anytime.  And I think water is so much better for my skin as well.  This was definitely a good week of eating.  I need to pick up the exercise a bit more.  I’ve been doing a combination of walking and exercise.  There are seven exercises that I’m trying to incorporate into my routine everyday.  It’s working for me and that is what matters.  I think I’m going to rope the hub unit in doing those seven exercises with me every evening.  It may make things go faster and it would certainly help to boost both of us for sure.”

This week walked:  8.27

TOTAL 2018 Miles:  61.57

TOTAL 2017 Miles:  541.06

❤ small goals turn into big accomplishments ❤

Tell a Fairy Tale Day –

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

keeping his paws on the nuts of the world –

February 26th is a day that fairy tales are made of – it’s Tell a Fairy Tale Day.  Everyone loves a good fairy tale – kids, adults and animals.  It’s a great way to bond with your friends.  Pick a story or make up a story.  Either way, it’s a great time for everyone!

It’s not a requirement to start with “Once upon a time…” but it is a requirement to have a happy ending.  There’s absolutely nothing better than to the end with “and they all lived happily ever after.”

So, cozy up with your selected loved one and read a fairy tale or make up one.  You all know that the pampered pig Bacon gets a bedtime story every night when his mom tucks him up. (That pig is *beyond* spoiled!)  I asked him to share one of her stories with his friends here and he said this one was his favorite. We hope you enjoy!

“Once upon a time there was a four legged hoofed piggy who was adopted by a human family.  We’ve all seen Stuart Little.  A little mouse that was adopted by the Little family.  Well, this family was just about the same.  They really wanted a baby of their own but circumstances just didn’t work out.  They did the next best thing and adopted a little runt piglet that was only three weeks old.  They took Bacon home and created his own little nursery for him, catered to him and taught him how to become a little man.

As Bacon grew more and more each day and learned the ways of being a little human, he also grew more and more in his parent’s hearts.  They wanted little Bacon to do nothing more than to blossom and be happy with his life.  Bacon caught on quick to the human ways and started watching television, surfing the net on his laptop and even created his own blog.  In no time, little Bacon became a little pig star in his own right!

Bacon adjusted to life at the Hotel Thompson and caught on so well with the schedule of the Thompson clan.  He knew when it was time to eat.  He knew when it was time to take a nap.  He even knew when it was time to go to bed.  He created his own little routine before bedtime every night.

Not only was Bacon happy at the Hotel Thompson, he brought happiness to the Hotel Thompson.  Little Bacon became such a happy part in his parent’s eyes that they couldn’t even remember life without Bacon.  He filled a void that his mommy had and made her the happiest mommy in the world.  His mommy fully loved Bacon and Bacon fully loved his mommy.

And to this day, Bacon and his parents are living happily ever after at the Hotel Thompson.”

Paw Time with Houdini

Barks my friend!!  I hope you had an awesome week in your neck of the woods.  It has done nothing here but rain and then rain some more.  If this keeps up, I’m going to have to get some floaters for my arms and start building a boat.  It’s that watery here at the Hotel Thompson.  I wanted to take a look back at that shirt mom got me that said, “Mommy’s Trouble Maker”.  I want to share Exhibit A in said picture.  If I’m a trouble maker, why am I protecting mom at night when she sleeps.  See I saddle up as close as I can to her at night touching her to make sure no boogeyman gets to her.  Cause you know said boogeyman would have to go through me first.  See, all of this protection as in her bodyguard and I don’t see her complaining about that, right?  I may need to see if I can find that shirt and take care of it this weekend.  I’m just sayin!  If it should disappear no one would ever know… right?  Barks and rolls with puppy laughter.

Shopping Around the World

Hello friends!!

For February’s Shopping Around the World, we want a drink and snack food that you love.  Recipes, pictures are awesome and prices to be posted on:

Doesn’t that picture look awesome just by itself?  Mom has tried to eat better at home.  Once she would have snacked on chips, pretzels or chocolate.  Not these days.  Don’t get me wrong though.  She still keeps a chocolate drawer in the refrigerator – sshh don’t tell anyone.  But these days, she tries to keep better snacks at and about.  Usually on the weekends, she puts together a snack tray that can be easily attainable at night for her and dad.  It includes wheat crackers, apple slices, cheeses of different kinds, sometimes she throws in green olives with pimentos and pickle spears.  That way when the munchie monster hits, she can grab things that might be a little bit better for her and dad then the so called ‘junk’ food of the past.  What does this cost?  Let’s break it down.

⋅ One box of Wheat Ritz crackers (on sale $2.50 for the box)

⋅ Three apples of any kind (on sale 3 for a $1.00)

⋅ Assortment of cheese cut however you want (Colby, Cheddar and Provolone packs at $1.99 each pack)

⋅ One jar of pickles ($2.49)

⋅ One jar of green olives ($3.49)

That totals $15.45 for all of these goodies; however, they last between 2-3 weeks for everything.  It depends on how much snacking you are doing – LOL.  Now mom will fix everything in a special container she has that has lots of individual holes that is perfect to put cut up apples, pickles, olives and your cheeses.  She keeps the crackers on the kitchen island to add to her snack whenever she needs it.  And mom says sometimes when the midnight munchie monster hits, its perfect to fix a cheese cracker and go back to bed.  Go figure huh?

But wait a minute.  This month is snack and drink month.  What does mom drink with her snack?  If it’s an after dinner/pre-bed snack, you may find mom eating a little variety platter with a glass of  Primo Amore Moscato.  Mom found this wine at our local Olive Garden and fell in love with it!  It has a little bit of bubbles in it with a sweet taste.  It goes great with her snack tray.  Mom found the she can buy this brand at our local market for around $16.00 a bottle.  Again, this bottle can last an entire week since she is the only that drinks alcohol here at the Hotel Thompson and she only has one glass at a time, when she has it.  Mom highly recommends this wine though so if you find it in your market, try it and tell us what you think.

National Margarita Day

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel –

Keeping my paws on the nuts of the world

February 22nd is National Margarita Day. I absolutely have to report about this day – it’s a must!

It doesn’t matter what kind of Margarita you partake in. Bacons mom likes a Habanero Margarita.  She says it’s cool and refreshing and then has a slight heat when swallowing. Yep that sounds like Bacons mom. Sweet and hot. Chitter Chatter. Don’t tell the oinker I said that.

Enjoy a Margarita today my friends!
