Hell Froze Over

18 Jan

Yep, you heard me right.  Hell froze over.  Why do you ask?  Well, we got snow in the south.  Shocker huh?!  We never get snow and twice this year we’ve had it.  The first time back in December 2017.  It wasn’t much.  Hardly anything to write about.  It was more of an inconvenience than anything else.  Then early this week they said we would be getting snow.  Of course, here in the south we laughed.  I mean really think about living in the south.  If we see a single snowflake, we shut down.  Honestly we do.  We are not equipped for snow and we don’t know how to drive in that kind of weather.

So Tuesday night, mom got a text stating work would be delayed Wednesday for two hours – report in at 10AM.  No problems.  Mom woke up Wednesday morning and squealed for joy.  I heard her.  It scared me.  Do you remember when you were in school and you thought you might be having a snow day and you were so excited?  Mom was exactly that for some reason.  She had not even left the bed and she said it snowed.  How did she know?  Is she psychic?  Mom said she could tell because everything was so bright inside of the Hotel Thompson.  I don’t know what she was talking about.  We all stumbled to the front door.  She opened the door and we were in awe.  Look at all of that snow!  We were all mystified.

Mom then got a text saying work was called out for non-essential personnel.  Mom actually jumped for joy.  It’s strange seeing her do that.  Really it is.  Mom then went to the back door and opened it up for all of us.  She told us we could go out and play in the snow.  Shaking my head.  Mom do you not know us at all?  Houdini yawned and left to go back to bed first following by me.  Trust me.  I do not want snow or cold stuff rubbing against my pot belly.  I’ll pass.  What was mom thinking?

Then this morning she was again delayed two hours.  But when she left for work, there was icicles going across the front of the Hotel Thompson.  Do you see them?  And mom called us when she got to work.  What usually takes less than 15 minutes took mom 45 minutes this morning.  The roads were still icy and full of snow.  Mom said there was also some – what did she call them? – IDIOTS driving on the roads going fast like there was no tomorrow.  Weirdos.

We were supposed to get 2-4 inches. 7 was our total. We saw a photo of a deserted I-85 in Atlanta yesterday…..so dangerous!

YES! We stayed home out of this mess. Of course today mom had to go in to work but it was two hours later than her normal time. And it was still a mess out there. People driving like bats out of hell. So crazy! XOXO – Bacon

Oh brother – I send you a bottle of it. It’s pretty for a few hours when it comes down all soft but then it gets everything wet and yucky. Then the sliding begins with ice. Shivers. That’s no fun at all. XOXO – Bacon

I do not want to witness snow in Florida – the cold this morning was enough. I lived in the Frozen Tundra as well as the Sierras – done with Winter, especially driving in it – no thank you! Be Safe and Take Care – you may need to wrap your pot belly in a scarf if have to go outside 🙂

You know I will cover every inch of my delicates if I have to go out. It is way too cold out there for me. I am not a snow piggy at all. Nope. Shaking my head. The north can have the snow. That’s why I live in the south. NO SNOW Please. Snorts and rolls with piggy laughter near the fireplace. XOXO – Bacon

I was thinking about you when I heard about Atlanta getting so much snow (OK, so much by Southern standards). The first few years I lived here, it upset me that schools were closed the night before if there was even a “Chance” of snow. Now I understand why (no equipment, no experience driving, mountains). I always feel like I’m playing hooky when I take a snow day!! (But in my defense, my subdivision empties out down a hill onto a busy road!) Enjoy the nice weather coming this weekend.

That is so true – people in the south don’t ever get used to this kind of weather. We just don’t have the equipment. We don’t get it that often. And yes, this weekend it’s suppose to be in the 60’s. Can you imagine that? With windchill factors, it felt -1 degree and this weekend we will be back to t-shirts and flip flops. No wonder everyone is so sick LOL. XOXO – Bacon’s MOM

I’ve never figured out how temperature changes cause the flu, but there is definitely a correlation.

It would be tough in Atlanta in the snow. It won’t stay but what a surprise. A day off work too. Nice to know you have idiots drivers there too. I guess they’re idiots in the summer too but not as noticeable as they slide in front in front of one.

Exactly! And they were flying down the street this morning like there was nothing on the ground. It was amazingly stupid… especially to see them down the road sliding around. Idiots pure and simple. LOL – June

Glad your mum got a snow day. My daughter who moved to Houston told me how EVERYTHING was shut down there for a couple of days. Us Colorado folk just howl with the reaction to that kind of snow but I totally understand the whole not being able to cope with it when you’re not used to it. Stay warm and safe.

Snorts!! We are classic for closing down. We see ONE snowflake and OMG – the store run is on and the businesses/schools are calling out. It is funny but we sure do appreciate it. XOXO – Bacon

YES!! And right around the corner from the Hotel Thompson is a really bad hill/turn that is completely iced over this morning. You should have seen the idiots speeding through to slide on the hill. Shakes my head. I had to stop watching. It was like looking at a train wreck. XOXO – Bacon

Oh my nefkitty – snow seems to make everything so much brighter. The inside of the Hotel Thompson seemed to be glowing. It was so weird. And your Ladymum is right. Here in the south, we just can’t deal with the snow/ice. We don’t get it that often so when it happens, we close everything. XOXO – Bacon

Now back in my day, we drove to work in a foot of snow uphill both ways! I actually did do that a couple years ago. I’ve found out that my new car has a little light can comes on to let you know you are sliding in ice…. as if I can’t already tell that!

Lowers my head and snorts. WOW I’m so the car manufacturer had the insight to put that light on your dash. I mean good Lord. You just don’t know when your sliding all over the street. HA! I remember my grandpa telling mom one time about how he had to walk back/forth to school – what was it the last time he said the story – three miles one way in knee deep snow. Rolls piggy eyes. Too funny XOXO – Bacon
