Spotlight Thursday – Meet River

30 Nov

Spotlight Thursday

Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY.  This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better.  Some of them, you may already know.  We hope that you enjoy this series!

Name:  River

Age:  1  years

Location:  Colorado

Web/Blog Page:

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents?  I didn’t pay much attention to them. I thought that they would pick one of the new puppies. No one else had wanted me, and I didn’t think these people would be any different. When they put me in the car, I was scared. When I threw up in their car, I thought they would take me back. Then I got to their house, and the homemade supper smelled so good, and they showed me the where I could sleep in the big bed with Mom and Dad, and I thought this was a lot better than the farm where I was born!

What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home?  The second night I was there, I decided I really liked the big bed and this was a LOT better than the farm; I knew that I wanted to stay in this new place. A few weeks later, I finally realized that word they kept saying was my name – I was five months old and had never had a name at the farm. When I got my name, I knew I was part of the family.

What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home? I’ve only been here nine months. Other than the car sickness that had me spewing all over the inside of the car, I’ve been pretty good. Mom said that she’d raised four kids and had seen much worse; she took it in stride. I don’t get car sick any more, and I’m still here, so I guess we’re all good.

Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why? I’m a Daddy’s girl. I love them both, of course, but he takes me running with him sometimes. And when we go for family walks, he usually holds the leash. We both have long legs (Mom is a bit of a runt) and we belong together. I love to snuggle my Daddy the most.

What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you?  They think I’m just another pretty face, but I am crazy smart. They underestimate me, which makes it just a little easier to get into mischief!

Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!

So glad to meet you, River. Imagine not having a name as a “teenager” …

I guess I just didn’t know any better. It wa pretty confusing at first, but I finally have it down. A name! I became a person rather than a product with that one litttle change.

Hello River. You are pretty cute. It’s nice to meet you. Sounds like you’re one lucky puppy.

I really feel lucky to eat homemade dog food from real meat and to sleep in the big comfy bed with Mom and Dad. I am friends with Jazz, but Garnet and Tribble try to boss me around. I have the run of the house and backyard- no more barn. I do feel lucky! I kind of miss watching the sheep, but the family makes up for that.

Of course you’re smart, beautiful River. And you’re blonde, so you can “play dumb” to get out of trouble. 🙂 So nice to meet you!!

Ha, ha! Maybe I am dumb, because I didn’t think of playing the blonde card!

I think so, too. I’m not bored all the time anymore. I have cool toys and chewy things. I even have gotten to go camping with the folks three times already. I love the mountains — such exotic smells!

Glad to meet you, too. Maybe you could tell me how to make friends with Tsunami? I want to play, and I think she does too, but I don’t know how to play cat games and she doesn’t like dog games. 😦

Awww, thanks. Mom named me River because she says I’m all “flowy” and soft. I couldn’t figure out that she was talking about me when she said “River” for a couple of weeks, but then, I liked it! Rivers are powerful and beautiful. I’m not sure if I like water or not; I’ve not had the fun water — just baths. As much as we go camping, we never seem to go close to water…. and the ocean is thousands of miles away.
