Do you know what that is in the picture? It’s the snack of the south… boiled peanuts. Mom grew up with boiled peanuts straight out of the hot pot. Dad not so much. But since they’ve been married, mom has gotten dad hooked on these deletable salty morsels of yum. And yeah, I love them too. You can find them all over the south here at roadside stands and corner markets. They usually give you a scoop right out of the boiling water into these double bags. Double bags because you need one bag to put your shells into. Have you had these before? A lot of people will even put peanuts in their soda. It’s a southern thing. Trust me – don’t knock it until you try it says mom. Snorts with piggy laughter!

I have never heard of boiled peanuts, I would like to taste them, because I love all kind of peanuts. Do you have a recipe, hmm is this a right word, so how do you make them?

Wash the peanuts and place them in a pot. Add salt and water. …
Let the water boil for 3 hours.
Taste the peanuts, if they are not salty enough for your taste add more salt. If you would like the peanuts to be softer, return the water to boil and cook until they reach the consistency you desire.
You can use a slow cooker instead of a pot on the stove too.
