Shivers – Shark Week

26 Jul

Oh shivers!  This week it has been Shark Week on the Discovery Channel.  We have watched a lot of the shows.  Shows that highlighted when sharks attack.  Shows that highlight guys/gals going down in the ocean in shark cages feeding sharks by hand.  Shows that highlighted HUGE sharks.  Shows that highlight sharks that bit people and showed the bites – shivers.

Then if that wasn’t bad enough, mom got a wild hair over the long weekend and decided to watch ALL of the Jaws movies.  Really mom?  Not just the original Jaws with “We’re going to need a bigger boat”, but all of them – Jaws 2, Jaws 3 and then Jaws Revenge.  Shakes piggy head.  Snorts – but us anipals stood by her side and watched with her.  Double evil snorts – I even called Houdini Shark Bait.  Now *that* was funny.

After this week of watching all of these shows, I had a dream about surfing.  It was a nightmare!   There is no way this little oinker is going anywhere near the beach.  Heck, I may even rethink getting in my piggy pool or the bathtub for that matter!

Have you watched any of these shows on television?  Any favorites? Any experiences of seeing sharks in real life?  Have you seen them at the beach?

Big fan of the first Jaws movie. I audibly gasped at one point when I saw it 87 years ago in a theater and the 10 year old behind me said, “sheesh lady, it’s just a movie!” Brat.

Go read my shark article my piggy friend. Oh I still wouldn’t suggest any of you animal pals at hotel Thompson go near ocean no you are easy food. Great white sharks are over rated. And the inaccuracies in jaws make me want bang my head in. Tiger sharks are more like description people are presented of great whites to human. Great whites aren’t really white though do have white under belly. Great whites bite humans sometimes by mistake or being threatened but spit us out we don’t taste good. Tiger sharks just eat a lot so spitting out don’t bother. Unlikely you will be eaten whole is person but tiger shark will tear you apart. Great white nope taste and spit. Yes people but it’s not many die from injuries sharks caused.

My worst nightmare has three facets – night, very deep water, and sharks. Imagine falling off a cruise ship at night, floating on the surface of very deep water, seeing a dorsal fin, and feeling something bump your leg. I’m getting shivers, just thinking about it!

To this day I’m still cautious about swimming in the ocean but I’ve got a better one for you. Deliverance came on TV one night when I was home alone and that movie still freaks me out… banjo music…shiver!

LadyMum has a story to share with you Unccle Bacon! Take it away LadyMum!
Hi Bacon: When my beloved Father vacationed in Clearwater, Florida in the late 80’s & early 90’s he used to go swimming in the Gulf. He was an avid swimmer.(Also he was a Holocaust survivor who saw the horrors of WWII & met Hitler.)
My StepMother would call me in a panic saying my Father had gone swimming again…with SHARKS!!!
I would call my Father later that day & enquire about his swim & he would tell me how warm the water was & sunny & the SHARKS were bumping up against him….
I freaked out on him!! He was swimming with Tiger SHARKS! OK they aren’t Great Whites’ or Bulls’ but still they were SHARKS!!!!!! My father had a dry sense of humour (OK make a wet joke here!) & when I asked why he wasn’t scared of swimming with SHARKS he said he had lived thru the Holocaust so a few Tiger Sharks were no big deal to him!!!! Now how do you argue with THAT logic??? ROFWL!!!!
How’s THAT for a shark story Bacon????
    Sherri-Ellen & Siddhartha Henry 🙂 🙂

I saw a show on sharks once that said they sometimes get up rivers that connect to the ocean. You don’t have any rivers nearby, do you? Maybe a sewer drain that’s attached to a river that’s attached to an ocean….????

O.M.P. Let’s hope not my evil friend. I know we have a creek behind our house but I don’t think it’s connected anywhere. Gulps – I hope not anyway. But you know last night, we were all watching a show about sharks and crocs living in the same waters off the coast of Australia. OMP – that place is wicked bad. Remind me not to go there okay. I’ll just send Bashful. XOXO – Bacon

Tallulah and I are taking our humans to the beach for a long weekend in November, so we think we’ll hold off on any Jaws movie marathons for a bit. 😉
