Travels in the South

Welcome my friends to another edition of Travels in the South.  I know we usually show restaurant food but today we have something special.  You see daddy loves M&M’s with nuts and mom loves caramel.  Well somehow M&M nuts got mixed up with caramel and made this new creation – M&Ms Caramel.  What a combination, right?!

So how are these new nuggets of wonder?  Per daddy, they taste very similar to a Rolo.  There is a great combination of chocolate to caramel and the nuts add another dimension.  So if you like chocolate, caramel and nuts – look for these in your market the next time you go.  They are definitely worth a try!  And hey, get the big pack so you can share ❤

Dear Bacon

Dear Bacon – ssss safety first is what I always hiss.  My human friend sss says the same thing.  You always buckle upsss the important things in your life when you get into the car.  Anipalsssss are no different.  Remember that my friend – ssss safety first.  Signed Mr. Slithers

Dear Mr. Slithers – Gulps – of course.  I agree strongly with you safety first.  That’s why I would *always* let you ride shot gun up front with the human – always.  In fact, I would go as far as saying I would always let you go with the human period.  I’ll just pass on this ride.  I get car sick at times anyway.  Safe travels to you and yours.  Gulps and slowly backs out of this letter.

Dear Bacon – My human must die.  There it is.  Plain and simple.  He put this stupid contraption on me and now I look like a cat.  Really?!  A cat?  That’s as creative as you can get my human?  Just wait until you go to sleep and you will go to sleep sometime.  Signed Jax

Dear Jax – Oh my piggy heavens.  Dude, your owner is very brave to dress you up like that and then to take you out in public and THEN to take your picture.  Clicking my tongue.  Yes you are right.  He must pay tonight.

Dear Bacon – That’s it.  We are ready.  It’s bad enough that we have cats chasing us around the house and inside of the house.  Now when we go out in the field, squirrels are trying to get us too.  This means war.  Bring on the hamster troops.  Cats and squirrels are going down!  Signed Troop End of Destruction

Dear Troop End of Destruction – Pardon me sir but I must ask.  Where do you find those cute little guns and fatigues??  Ok, I know you are trying to look tough but squeals with piggy excitement.  You are just way too cute to be making any havoc out there in the killing fields.  Can’t you solve this war without tragedies?  Come on.  I bet ya’ll can talk this out in a peaceful manner.  Sure  you can!  I have faith.  I can call Dr. Phil for you. I’m sure he can get you on the show.

Dear Bacon – There I was playing with Mr. Spock and all of a sudden his leg started to spontaneously shoot out white stuffing.  I’m not sure what happened but I knew we needed a medic STAT.  That’s where I jumped in with my scrubs and got to work patching up Mr. Spock.  He didn’t feel a thing during the operation.  And look, his leg will be fine in a couple of days.  It was a close call indeed Mr. Spock.  Signed Dr. Kirk

Dr. Kirk – I know that was a tough call my friend.  Thank goodness nothing beamed you up.  That would have been a tight predicament to be in and oh thank goodness you were on call for the surgery.  Can you imagine how Mr. Spock would look if you had to amputate his little leg?  The horror!

Dear Bacon – I have got to quick partying all night with the dogs in the neighborhood.  I’m not sure what people are putting in their commodes anymore.  We all went out for a few drinks and the next thing you know, I woke up like this.  Of course my friends took pictures to blackmail me with in the future.  I’m not sure what happened or what her name is.  I need help.  Really I do.  It was a ruff situation this morning doing the walk of shame.  Signed Fido

Dear Fido – Oh dude.  I would say you need therapy.  You gotta stop drinking the strange stuff in commodes.  You just never know what might be in there.  You don’t want a repeat of this night.  Oh my goodness.  Are you going to call her at least?

Journey with Friends – Week 21

Welcome my friends to our weekly issue of Journey with Friends.  This is a time that we come together for support, for encouragement, for fellowship – all with one single goal in mind – to live better.  Welcome to our journey to share our goals and our accomplishments and our disappointments and frustrations.

Together we can do this!

Sunday, May 21, 2017 –  Finally a day that I could somewhat rest.  I did get my circles filled on my Apple i-Watch.  I’ll be honest with you.  It was definitely a challenge today.  I finally just had to break down, put Houdini in his stroller and take a walk around our block in our neighborhood.  Of course, we went right by Nana’s who lives up the street so we had to stop so Houdini could say hello.  It was a miserable walk though – so hot outside!  I’m afraid that when summer finally kicks in, I’m going to be one sweaty mommy!  Miles Moved: 1.71

Monday, May 22, 2017 –  Well – LOL – my plans were to get up early this morning and hit my treadmill.  It didn’t work out that way though.  I had a hard night last night sleeping with pain.  Pain didn’t want to go away no matter what medicine I took or what white noise I had in the bedroom.  Nothing helped so I didn’t really go to sleep until 5AM and the anipal clocks go off at 6:30AM.  So, as soon as I got to work, I did my walk outside.  Really muggy because we have rain coming our way sometime today/tomorrow.  But I was able to talk to a girlfriend while I walked which was wonderful

Tuesday, May 23, 2017 –  Sleep still escapes me.  Darn the RA in my hip.  I can not find relief.  I can walk through the pain but trying to sleep and feeling the thud-thud-thud of the pain does not help.  I will try to treat myself well tonight before bed and see if that helps.  Miles Moved: 2.40

Wednesday, May 24, 2017 –   Finally, I’m exhausted enough that I slept like a baby last night.  On the other hand, I slept so hard that I talked in my sleep all night and according to my husband was looking for my sandwich in the sheets – LOL.  Talking in my sleeps beats walking in my sleep which I also have been known to do.  Never a boring moment here at the Hotel Thompson – that is for sure! Miles Moved: 2.81

Thursday, May 25, 2017 –  I’m tweaking my food intake starting today.  I want to see the scales move as well.  This walking is doing some amazing things to my legs and butt but come on scales play nice to me 🙂  Miles Moved: 2.17

Friday, May 26, 2017 –   I’ll be honest with you. There are some days that I want to sleep in. Some days that I want to go to bed early. And some days that I just don’t want to work out. I’m like everyone else. What motivates me?  Knowing that I want to be healthier. Of all things in life, that is my goal. Miles Moved: 2.40

Saturday, May 27, 2017 –   Today was awesome. I made Jim go walking with me. That way he sees and feels first hand how I do. Heck, I think he enjoyed it. Miles Moved: 1.43

Thoughts for the week: Me and Jim were talking tonight about our new way of living. It’s funny how our lives have changed. Now we eat to live instead of living to eat. It’s funny how we have changed these past course of months.

This week walked: 15.69

TOTAL 2017 Miles:  249.64

Just an interesting tidbit of information. I’ve walked almost 250 miles this year so far. To get to Tybee Island, it is 256 miles. So I’ve almost walked 👣 to our beautiful place in the sun. Fun fact, huh.  ❤️

Memorial Day

20130507-222103.jpg

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States. On this day, which occurs every year on the last Monday of May, we remember the men and women who have died while serving our country.

Many people on this day will visit cemeteries and memorials placing an American flag at graves to honor our fallen heros.

Let’s remember that appreciation is not only one day out of the year – it’s year round.

Thank you to all of those who have died while serving our great country! I think this picture says it all.

Paw Time with Houdini

Oh my dogs – the first sighting of a snake here at the Hotel Thompson.  Don’t worry mom.  I know how you feel about snakes.  I so got you covered here.  This little rascal is not going to bite those cute ankles of yours.  Which brings me to something that daddy told mommy one time.  You know daddy tells me stories of his and mom’s dating life when mom is at work.  One time daddy said he gave mommy a romantical card and he wrote on it,

“You look as good to me as a bare ankle to a rattlesnake”.

Can you say that got mom hooked to daddy right there and then –  Barks with puppy laughter.

Now I leave you with Jokes with Daddy – enjoy my friends and have a great weekend.

Spotlight Thursday – Meet Benjamin Griz de Tiger

Spotlight Thursday

Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY.  This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better.  Some of them, you may already know.  We hope that you enjoy this series!

Name:  Benjamin Griz de Tiger aka Benji aka Mr. B aka 0011. And let’s not forget my other important dog title- I’m a therapy dog AKA Dogtor

Age: 1 year and 8 months

Location:  Florida

Web/Blog Page:  LifeofBenji

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents? I’ve made it! I got my own bed, a nice home, lots of food, a big furry sister whom I adore, and lots of love.

What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home? I’ve got a big sister with a furry tail to play with all day long!

What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home?  Hmmmm, I guess that would have to be my “oops” moment a couple of weeks ago. I swallowed a crossbreed that turned out to be inedible. You can read all about it on my blog, see https://lifeofbenji.com/2017/04/03/oops/ M was not mad but she was very concerned about me. And I have to say, I didn’t feel so good either.

Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why? That would be M as she gives me more treats. Plus, if I do anything wrong she thinks that she did something wrong. And a negative times a negative is a positive says M.  I won’t argue with that. More treats are always helpful too. Did I mention that I like treats? Lots of them and all kinds! I will do practically anything if you give me some!

What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you?  I would like to bring up a misconception about canines in general. Humans often think that we should be punished for something we did wrong. But it is positive reinforcement and redirection what works best for us.  What is positive reinforcement? Lots of treats of course! Luckily, a lot of doggie schools are now focusing on positive reinforcement and redirection instead on punishment.

Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!

Travels in the South

There are some things in life that you can never get too much of – like back rubs and cheese.  Really think about it.  Don’t those two things make you smile and feel good?  Me too!  Well recently mom and dad took nana out to lunch.  Mom saw this on the restaurant menu and they all just *had* to try this wonderment.  What is it you ask?

“Wisconsin cheese bites.  Hand-battered and lightly fried to order.  Served with a side of homemade marinara sauce

Of course it’s going to be friend.  We are in the south where we fry everything.  But fried cheese bites.  I’m licking my piggy lips now.  See the gooey cheese on the picture coming out of the lightly battered bite?  The cheese was wonderful and hot and so stringy!  I’m not sure who enjoyed these more – mom, dad or Nana!

So the next time you see fried cheese on an appetizer list, try it.  You might just fall in love too!
