Spotlight Thursday
Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY. This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better. Some of them, you may already know. We hope that you enjoy this series!

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents? I was pretty young, and during my first trip from San Diego to Los Angeles had an accident in the carrier. I had to share it with my half brother Marshal Davout. He was even more scared, and I hadn’t met him before then because I was still in with my litter mates. I still had another hour drive to get home. It was pretty dark but I only cried a couple of times…pretty loudly. I still stay quiet until I have something important to say.
What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home? After a wet-wipes bath and some food and water I felt a lot better. We were in our own room with lots of little cubby holes just right for kittens. Davout was too scared to move but had a bed in a cubby. I did a little exploring of the room but found a nice spot where I could hide but watch what Dad did. Mostly he left us alone, or watched me explore some. When Davout relaxed some we made friends. We had to stay there together for a while before meeting the other cats.
What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home? I learned some bad habits from Uncle Julius (RIP) and climbed the wall in the back yard. This summer I did it, but instead of jumping down into the pool area, which is fun, I followed the wall along past several houses. On the way back, I lost count and jumped into someone else’s yard into her house. I hid behind her sofa while she tried to get her little dog away and shoo me out of her yard. She got me out of her house, but I hid on the wrong side of the gate. Then I heard my Dad bringing out the ladder to check the big lot out back for me, and rushed up a trellis and made a big jump to the wall top and back home. I’ve learned only how to count better, and Dad isn’t eager to let me out back until he fixes things.
Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why? I don’t think I fool him very much, but he doesn’t have many rules. Every one at the vets or who fixes things in the house loves me.
What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you? That I am too mean to Anna. I’m just playing until she hisses at me one time too many.
Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!

Hi Rhea – or do you use both names? I’m TINK (short for TinkerToy, which my Mom thought was cute when I was tiny, but now that I am a full grown ten and a half pounds it just seems stupid – to me anyway)
Your adventure sounded kinda’ fun and kinda’ scary. I sure wouldn’t want to end up behind a couch at one of Mom’s neighbors – not that I could get that far anyway – even on my stretchy leash. You get to go out on your own, I guess.
I don’t have playmates – except for Mom and my fans at the Cheers bar down the street. Mom has to take pills to be around kitties, so we don’t even live with one of those. Is it fun, or do you get tired of having to share all the time?
It was great to meet you – I’ll come visit on your blog soon.
Woof! TINK
PS. Bacon – be on the lookout for TWO emails – Mom finally got it together. Both have Spotlight as part of the subject line, so you can search for them.

Great! Again, SO sorry it languished, Bacon. Tink did his part, then Mom moved on and got distracted by everything else on her plate & didn’t get it out the door until your reminder. (2 emails to separate what’s inside, btw)

SEE – I told you it was her fault – Woof! TINK

She’s mostly known by her first name. The adventure to the neighbor’s house was scary for sure, but not so scary that she didn’t jump up a few times afterward and wander away.
Rhea doesn’t mind sharing things, as there is plenty around for all. If someone takes a spot, she can find another. It helps that she is the quickest to go for what she wants and everyone lets her get away with it mostly.

I read a fascinating article from some pet researcher that said that cats that live together appear to have agreed on “time-shares” – and that when one seems to be being sharp with another for no reason it is because the other is not moving on when their time is up.

That’s so, and often there are more than one place or thing that’s acceptably good so it isn’t worth a struggle. Often different cats have different tastes as well so one can be on a perch, one on the floor nearby, one in a nook looking over and all being “close” to you by their own standards.

Oh how I wish I could have cats too – but I’m desperately allergic (most dogs too, which is why I can’t foster or adopt a shelter dog unless they have papers so I know for sure what breed they are) 😦
Both have gotten less severe as I age, thank goodness – but the cat allergy remains the worst. When I was in college I couldn’t even sit next to people with cat hair on their clothing (ex., at the movies) before my violent AAH-choo volley began, followed by asthmatic breathing, eyes of the damned, etc.
Now, with medication, I can spend an entire day in homes with cats, repeated when I’m staying over — as long as the host always keeps the cats out of the guest room and off the guest bed.
But I can’t *live* on allergy medication, so I must content myself with virtual cats. ::sigh::

Climbing is one thing…jumping down afterward is a little harder.

That fence jumping adventure sounds terrifying, R. I’m not much with the math skills either, so I can see how easily that could happen. So happy you got home safe and sound.
Love and licks,

She was scared while it was happening, but got over it too fast for my liking.

What a treat! That’s one of my top favorite blogs! The adventures of Rhea, Anna, Davout, and the Generals always entertain, and I am hopeful Rhea and Anna eventually become best buddies! Thanks for featuring the kitties of this blog, my favorite piggy!

Rhea, you are absolutely beautiful. Tell your dad that I saw an ad for a piece that goes a the top of a fence, and it rotates, so when a cat tries to get out, they slide off it. He can probably google it if he is interested.

I’ve seen a few fence protection solutions, just have to get one up and installed.

Sometimes yes, other times she lets the little Generals steal her food. It’s a give and take.
