Spotlight Thursday – Meet Skyler Braveheart

Spotlight Thursday

Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY.  This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better.  Some of them, you may already know.  We hope that you enjoy this series!

Name:  Skyler Braveheart

Age:  6 years old

Location:  Greensboro, North Carolina

Web/Blog Page:  http://skylerbraveheart.wordpress.com/

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents?  I had been surrendered to a Scottish Terrier Rescue in Atlanta, so I was at a Vet’s there.  The Vet  had chipped and neutered me.  The Vet was also treating me for a raging ear infection.  I was greasy, tired and my ear hurt.   Mama came over to my crate and said, “Dude, you don’t know it yet, but I am going to be your new best friend.”  I was like, “Sure, whatever, go away”. However, the Vet Tech removed me from my crate and brought me up front where Mama was writing a check to cover my tab. The Vet looked at her and said, “He is a biter.”  Mama said, “Really?” and PawPaw said, “Who the hell cares”….that man was such a card! It was a cold, nasty day in January.  They put me in a kennel in the back of PawPaw’s Tahoe and away we went.  I started getting excited, even thimg_7658ough  I wouldn’t drink any water on way home. They stopped a lot so I could tinkle, etc.  Each time I got back in my kennel, I got a little more excited, but I played it very low key.

What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home?  After about 6 hours of driving, we pulled in our driveway.  They let me sniff around a bit and then brought me in the house.  BAM!  It happened.  I knew I was home.  I jumped on all the furniture downstairs, ran upstairs and jumped on the bed, and when I came back downstairs, I had forgotten my woes, cause I knew I was home.  They were both laughing.  Then, I put my paws up on a shelf to see what was up there and it flipped over, breaking everything.  I froze!  Mama said….it’s only stuff.  No punishment, no scolding, nothing, nada. After all that running, jumping and breaking, I knew what Mama has said at the Vet’s was true.  She was my new best friend.

What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home?   The first day I was home, PawPaw forgot and left a door to the outside cracked.  I slipped out.  He looked for me for about 30 minutes, trying to figure out how to tell Mama he had lost her dog the very first day.  When he pulled in our driveway, I was sitting in the front yard.  Again, no yelling, scolding, etc.  I just wanted to see my new ‘hood!

Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why?  At first it was PawPaw.  Mama was good for paying my bills, getting my food and supplies, taking me to Vet, etc.  PawPaw shared his breakfast with me and since he was home and Mama was working, I gravitated towards him.  Sadly, about 7 months after I came home, Mama had to buy him a ticket for the Bridge.  After that, I got to know Mama, and she and I are a team !

What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you?  That I am a Schnauzer.  No offense but for Dog’s sake, get your eyes checked people!

Skyler, I have a questions fur you. Who rescued who? Did you rescue Paw Paw and Mama or did they rescue you? Also, I am sorry to hear about Paw Paw. I think you gave him a lot of love while he was here.

Excellent point Louis Dog Armstrong! We all rescued one another. I am sorry about PawPaw too. He was a very nice man and thought I was very smart…he kept telling Mama, “This dog is SMART !” And he was not a Scottie person originally. He liked German Shepherds and Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mixes. But after Mama had brought three Scotties (one at the time) home, he found us Scotties to be as fun and interesting as the big guys. You can read about it in my blog entry, How It All Began. Thanks Easy! Yep, Mama goes the extra mile for sure. We both miss PawPaw, but I am glad I had that time with him. I got to visit him at Hospital, but one day, I looked at Mama and we both knew he wasn’t ever coming back home. Mama was married to him twice. But that’s a story for another time.

Skyler is a cutie and such a lucky little guy to get such a grand forever home. It’s sad his PawPaw had to leave so soon after he met him but I’m thinking PawPaw keeps a close eye on Skyler anyway. Thanks for interviewing Skyler…….

    Hugs, Sammy

Hi Sammy! Boy, you sure have us boning up on geography….and just between us guys, there is some bacon in our freezer that Mama sez you directed her to buy telepathically…..We ” talk” to PawPaw all the time. I think you are right…he is watching over us and sometimes sends signals, and symbols, like a special butterfly or bird.

Hi Skyler, You have a great story, all except the part about losing your pawpaw so soon. I have gotten called a Scottie so many times. It’s common among folks who don’t know the terriers. Poor people, though, cause Mom gives them a lecture about the differences in our looks! He, he.

Hi Lexi! Would love to hear your Mom’s lecture….maybe we.could get some pointers for my Mama’s lecture. We have several Schnauzer pals, and we just don’t get why people get us confused. Mama has a Weaton Scottie before me. All she heard was,”What a cute Westie! There should be a rule about knowing your terriers…..

LOL! People who can’t tell dogs apart, need to go get their eyes checked. That was a great story from a great dog. I am glad your Paw Paw got to spend time with you before he had to go (too soon) and then Mom had you to help her. I agree with Mom, things are just things. ❤
