Journey with Friends

20 Jun

Welcome my friends to our weekly issue of Journey with Friends.  This is a time that we come together for support, for encouragement, for fellowship – all with one single goal in mind – to live better.  Welcome to our journey to share our goals and our accomplishments and our disappointments and frustrations.

Together we can do this!

Hello my sweet friends!  How was your week last week?  I’m thinking in the past couple of weeks, I need a pat on the back.  Why do you ask?  Let me tell you some facts 🙂  The first week I started, I walked 10.41 miles total.  I was encouraged.  Last week, I only walked 7.95 miles due to my pain levels being really high from my rheumatoid arthritis and my hip woohoo-jumping-smiley-emoticonbursitis. But although I was in pain, I ate clean.  So eating clean and moving more, drum roll please, I weighed Saturday.  And guess what?  Are you sitting down?  I’m down 16 pounds since we got back from vacation.  Now that to me is amazing.  That weight loss is from 3 weeks and it’s a high number but I usually start off that way and then narrow down every week.  I’m *beyond* excited.  Tomorrow I go for my yearly insurance biometrics so that will also give me some panel blood numbers to go by when I get my blood work done again in three months.

So I’m excited.  How did you do my friends?

Miles Walked Since 06/13/2016:  18.36 miles

aaww thanks my friend! It hasn’t been as hard as what I thought it would be but I’m still taking one day at a time. I’m trying to walk at least 5,000 steps a day during the week. I’m not trying to push myself too hard but I’m trying and that’s what counts right? And I send you huge hugs to a great outcome for you tomorrow on your results – June

GOOD FOR YOU!!! That’s a lot to lose in a short time so you should definitely be super proud of yourself………now you’re on a roll and seeing results – that’s called “incentive” – it will be easier from here on girlfriend!

Thanks my friend! That loss is about 3 weeks and that’s awesome. The entire process is learning how to eat again – better – and to move more which is challenging at times. Now to keep the steam going. Thanks so much for your support – I really appreciate it! June

That’s great, I’m so proud of you June. Do you feel better?
Things haven’t been great for Hubby and me. He fell about eight feet from a ladder while starting to take down our gutters and replace them. Had to call 911 and I was very scared. He’s got seven broken ribs and a badly bruised shoulder. He’s lucky it wasn’t worse. He was in the hospital seven days. I barely got out of bed to take care of the pets and myself, I was so depressed. I had been thinking about blogging about our forty-five years of marriage coming up Oct. 2, but now I’m fighting despair and haven’t wanted to talk about anything. He’s been home a week and is improving everyday. We mostly watch old TV series. He sleeps half the time. Fortunately our youngest son has brought us our groceries. But the dog hair is getting really think along with the dust. Unfortunately I’ve had arthritis so bad for years, I can’t do much more than my hubby. I would love to be able to walk a mile. I need to break out of this depression and get healthier too. Tomorrow he sees his doctor so will know more then. I can still drive so we’re okay there. We live in the country, so no nearby neighbors.
Sorry for the long ramble. Carol

Oh sweet friend. I heard about this and sent you an email – I hope that you got it. It is such a tough road but you have to remember to take care of YOU. I’ll tell you falls are nasty. I can relate to this ordeal more than you know. And then dealing with taking care of your husband and trying to get over the trauma yourself of living this experience, that’s a lot to take in. I’m not surprised you are depressed. You have to be strong for your hub and to be strong for him – you have to take care of you. You email me anytime my friend if you need to talk. I’ll give you my phone number if you need me. I’m always there ❤ Hugs – June

Atta Girl Auntie June! Proud of you! Loosing weight is tough. Working with painful physical elements is even more challenging. Mama’s goal is 4 miles a day. Two with me-one in the am and one in the pm, and then right after my first walk, she does two miles by herself. Because of the heat we are only doing three most days. Because of Dr’s appts last week, I think she missed one or two days of her walk. This makes her bat shit crazy. Plus, now that the right side of her thyroid was removed in April, she is extra paranoid about gaining weight, even though the Endocrinologist told her she wouldn’t have to worry for the immediate future. That sent her into earth orbit. Oy! What’s a wee Scottie to do?

Your mom is my idol – 4 miles a day! Woot for her and way to go! I wish we lived closer – you would definitely help me out. Keep up the fantastic work you! ❤ june

LOL – That’s my worse activity. I hate shopping of any kind. Weird for a gal huh? On the other hand, my hub LOVES it. Who would have thought it . June

You deserve a pat on the back! We didn’t realize you have chronic pain. So two pats on the back.

aaww thanks my sweet friend. It’s something that people with chronic pain learn to do – live with it every day. Every day is a challenge not will we be in pain but how bad the pain will be today. ❤ June

That’s fantastic and well done. Walking and moving is so important. My son (our personal coach) says “everytime you stand, stretch your arms, legs and whatever) He is a keen stretcher and encourages everyone to do it. I have started doing it too. His generation has a much better attitude to exercise than mine did. Mine was a bit “all or nothing” whereas his is “just keep moving”.
    16 pounds is great! 😀

Shane is a great and awesome coach!! Please tell him thank you for me and give him a southern peck on the cheek. It is a hard battle but I think taking it in baby steps with 2 week challenges is the key. And moving is moving more. The most miles I’ve done in a week is 10.41 so therefore I’m trying to get to 10.50 soon. After that, my next step is to move it up. Baby steps for sure! ❤ June
