Dear Bacon

Dear Bacon – I have the perfect plan my friend.  Oh barks – it’s the best!  Here’s the plan.  I plan on going door to door in my neighborhood.  When humans come to the door, I plan on telling them that I’m and Inspector with C.M. across the country.  You know C.M. = Canine Meals.  And that I’m there to sample their canine meals for originality and taste.  Dude, I think I have a chance.  What do you think?  Signed Inspector Husky

Dear Inspector Husky – Oh dude!  I think you do have a plan there.  I can see it now – canines from all over the world will be catching on in their neighborhoods all in the honor of YOU.  Might I suggest you get a badge made up as well.  You know humans these days won’t let you inside unless your official.  Be safe and keep us posted.

Dear Bacon – There we were me and my human going for a walk here in the Spring – rolls doggy eyes.  Yeah Mother Nature has a twisted sense of humor.  Snow in Spring.  Yeah okay.  Back to my story.  We were walking and all of a sudden this snow came drifting off of the roof.  I moved but guess who didn’t?  Barks!  Where’s Lassie when you need her to let peeps know my human fell and can’t get up?  You know I did what I could.  I stuck my head in the snow to make sure they were breathing.  They were.  Signed Lassie in Training

Dear Lassie in Training – Well priorities my friend.  At least you made sure that your human could breathe.  We all know that their hearing and reflexes aren’t like ours.  This is just proof in the pudding – snorts.  You did dig him up, right?  I hope he’s not still there.

.

Dear Bacon – Well there goes my political career.  I was going to run for President however this picture has now been circulated by the other candidates.  I knew they were afraid of my charisma and they knew I would beat them.  Darn it.  I missed being President by just a cat’s whisker.  Signed Nip Ready

Dear Nip Ready – You know my friend this doesn’t mean the end.  As long as you didn’t inhale, you may have a chance.  Really – check it out in the past history.  I think you still need to run.  Heck, even with the nip history you still have a better running campaign than some.  Honestly.

.

REMEMBER my friends.  Dear Bacon can’t happen without YOU.  Please continue to send me your letters and pictures to my email address.  ♥

Please Keep Our Friends in Your Thoughts

Our friends from All Fur One and One Fur All really need our prayers.  Forrest and his humans are having a tough time.  Please visit him here and leave him a message ❤

Dear Forrest – we’ve never met in person but it seems like I’ve known you all my life.  You are a brave dog – very loved with so much to give.  I didn’t know what to say in your situation.  I searched the internet and came across a poem that really touched my heart.  I read it and cried through it with mom.  We love you dude!

Journey with Friends

Welcome my friends to our weekly issue of Journey with Friends.  This is a time that we come together for support, for encouragement, for fellowship – all with one single goal in mind – to live better.  Welcome to our journey to share our goals and our accomplishments and our disappointments and frustrations.

Together we can do this!

Hello my friends!  Another week behind us and another week before us.  Last week, I have to admit that I really didn’t watch very carefully what I was eating.  These weather changes here (storms, rain, clouds and then hot the next day) has my arthritis really acting up.  Some days, my hips were inflamed and on fire hurting so badly.  Other days it was my back.  Hopefully the weather changes will settle and my body will get accustomed to the weather.

I’ve also been working on the surprise we have coming at the end of May.  Nope – my lips are sealed and I will not reveal what it is.  But, there has been planning to do and things to purchase to get ready for it.  And I will tell you hopefully beach time will be involved so therefore swimsuits have been looked at on-line.  Have you looked for swimsuits lately?  WOW!  What a difference they have turned in the different sizes.  But, I think I found one that I like that is similar to the 60’s pin-up style – very cute I think.  We shall see if it maintains that cuteness once we get it here at the Hotel Thompson – LOL.

So how was YOUR week my friends? Anything exciting going on in your part of the world?

Pig in a Blanket Day

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

.

April 24th  is Pig in a Blanket Day.  Okay – so maybe it’s not exactly the Pig in a Blanket Day you were thinking .  I can’t report about sausage wrapped in a pancake.  I mean, that would be weird and everything being on Bacon’s blog, right? – wink – So just have pancakes today to celebrate – chitter chatter

20121227-085811.jpg

But, I can report to you the original Pig in a Blanket for this great holiday.  That’s right – the original.  As in Bacon wrapped up in a blanket – ha!   That seems to be the oinker’s favorite position – pig wrapped up in a blanket.

So on this day, think of the little booger and enjoy.  And yes, on top of that pig in a blanket is Sir Hemi passed out sleeping too.  See, proof is in the picture that they all get along at the Hotel Thompson.

Earth Day

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

Keeping his paws on the nuts of the world –

.

April 22nd is EARTH DAY.  Every year, more than 1 billion people in 175 countries will participate in various Earth Day events on this date.  It is the largest civic observance in the world.  The purpose is to raise awareness about important environmental issues.

The first Earth Day took place in 1970.  After witnessing the affects of an oil spill in Santa Barbara, California, US Senator Gaylord Nelson organized a grassroots environmental teach in on college campuses across the country.  Many people believe that this first Earth Day celebration marked the beginning of the modern environmental movement.

Celebrate today – plant a tree, help clean up a beach or park and/or participate in an event near you.  Help to keep this world a better place for everyone!

And a little blast from the past you might remember that deals with Earth Day – Captain Planet and the Planeteers.  Do you remember this show?  It was an American animated environmental program created by Ted Turner, Robert Larkin III and Barbara Pyle.  It came out on September 15, 1990.

The basis of the program was set with Gaia – the spirit of the planet.  She is awakened by drilling which is above her resting chamber.  To control the damage, she sends out five magic rings to youths around the world who will become the Planeteers.

Kwame is from Africa and has the power of Earth with his ring.

Wheeler is from North America and has the power of Fire with his ring.

Linka is from the Soviet Union and has the power of Wind with her ring.

Gi is from Asia and has the power of Water with her ring.

Ma-Ti is from South America and has the power of Heart and telepathy with his ring.

All five can use their rings special powers to call the super hero – Captain Planet for help.

I think today would be the perfect day to check out this old classic of helping the environment!

Paw Time with Houdini

Hello my sweet friends.  I hope that you have had a fantastic week so far – hang in there – it’s almost the weekend – barks!

I wanted to share with you this picture of me with mom/dad.  They took me on a field trip – can you say SCORE for the little doggy?  You see the night before the field trip, I ate my last Greenie.  Don’t you just love those things?  So this night, I didn’t have any.

So mom says okay then field trip!  We got into the Jeep and headed off towards our closest pet store – Petsmart.  Of course, I had to walk around and check everything out – you know say hello to a few passing anipals and then show mom/dad what food I needed – barks – what?  It’s what I do.  Then there was the shirt I just absolutely fell in love with and had to have.  Dad snorted can you believe that?  He says that I *almost* have as many clothes as mom – silly daddy.

And mom got smart this time at the pet store, she bought the economical sized bag of my Greenies – 43 in the teenie size.  It’s like they were made just for my little mouth.  Can you imagine that?  And fresh mint flavor too.  Maybe with a fresh mouth daddy won’t mind it when I slip him the tongue.  Barks with puppy laughter.

Also this week, mom/dad took me next door to see our neighbors.  Do you remember Bacon talking about Big Daddy?  Well Big Daddy got to hold me and I played with them while mom/dad talked with them.  It was great to see my kingdom in the front yard.  You know sometimes a little doggy has to strut.

And now I leave with you Jokes from Daddy.  Enjoy my friends!

Mom/Dad’s Food Porn

Sometimes with all of the stress and worries that come with being an adult, you have to take a step back and revert back to childhood.  This has been a tough month for a lot of people – not just here at the Hotel Thompson – but all over blogville.

Last night, mom got home and just gave dad one of “those” sighs.  You know the one I’m talking about.  The one where you are done.  Empty.  Totally wiped out.  Feeling uncherished, unwanted, unloved and miserable.  Nothing particular sparked it but everything attributed to it.  You know that feeling?  Mom calls those feelings feeling magenta.  Shrugs piggy shoulders.  I’m not sure why magenta but she picked magenta.

Well daddy told her last night that was it – it was time to go back to being a kid without adult worries.  Mom/dad loaded up in the car and went down the street to the local Dairy Queen.  Once there, they ordered two of these delectable peanut butter parfaits, laughed and joked while eating their treats.  And guess what?  It did the job.  Both mom/dad came back home more lighter with worries.

So, have you had your kid treat lately?  I think tonight they are meeting the local ice cream truck at the curb.  Maybe I can get in on some of that action – snorts with piggy laughter.

Spotlight Thursday – Meet Jack Knight

Spotlight Thursday

Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY.  This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better.  Some of them, you may already know.  We hope that you enjoy this new series!

Name:  Jack Knight

Age:  not sure 11 plus

Location:   Australia

Web/Blog Page:  gentlestitches

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents?  Well the nice people from the North Melbourne Lost dogs home gave a lead to my peeps and suggested they take me a walk on the grass around my cage. It was very nice to pee on the grass and sniff around but I had no idea I would soon be joining them as a member of their family. I felt scared on the way home and I threw up in the car but no one got cross with me. When I got to their house, I found they lived near a creek and the little boy wanted me to run along the creek and have adventures with him. I LOVE doing that. There were other critters there too and they seemed very relaxed and friendly towards me. I was got for the little boy, my brother Shane and I LOVE him very much but most of all ,I love my Auntie Sharon. She just panders to my needs 24 hours a day and I would protect and do anything for her. I bring her rats and mice to show my worth!

What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home?  When I saw my room all set up with a doggie bed, water dish, toys and a doggie door to the the garden.

What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home?  Well I don’t like it when they go to work or school and leave me behind so I show them by ripping all their fancy woodwork. They have lined the house with metal which has made it hard for me to destroy it. They are hard to make cross those peeps.

Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why? I have EVERYONE wrapped around my paws. I am just pure awesome.

What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you?  They are all under the delusion I am a small dog but I am HUGE!

Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend Jack – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!
