Hello my friends – this is Bacon’s mom June here. Today is my first Monday checking in. Over the weekend, I purged the Hotel Thompson of sugary foods – cookies, soda’s, chips – all of the ‘great’ things we lean upon in a rush. I even got on the scales and weighed myself – thus the scale image of HELP! LOL. At the family meeting last night, we even discussed the game plan and what was in store. Not a DIEt but a change in our lifestyle eating. My husband is even aboard with the exception of Thanksgiving Day. He feels that this holiday is once a year and plans have been made for that day – expensive plans that involve eating at a nice upscale restaurant downtown. So we compromised on that one day.
Other than that, I pledge to eat clean. I pledge to walk more for exercise. I pledge to weigh only once a week on Saturday mornings. I pledge to be honest here on my weekly blog postings. If I have a great week, I will share. If I stumbled and tripped, I will also share.
This journey is not only about losing weight, which I need, but it’s about getting some blood count numbers where they need to be. My cholesterol and LDL are perfect. However, my HDL and A1C are not. As of September, my HDL is a 39 and needs to be over 50. My A1C came back at 9.3 which is high. In order not to take insulin shots, my A1C needs to be at a 7 or below. My next blood work will be in January/February 2016. I CAN DO THIS!
With your help, guidance, hugs and/or a swift kick in the bum, I CAN DO THIS! Losing weight will help towards these goals. In reality, I would love to lose 100 pounds. Is this possible – sure – slow and steady wins the race, right? So my friends, now you know what’s in store.
Are you up to the challenge of helping me and being my support system?
Much love ❤ June ❤

Yes I am up for the challenge as I am walking the same path you are. I did not go on a diet I made a life style change and am adjusting to that change now and it is hard.
I have only lost 12 pounds and every day crave the sweets but one day at a time I am not eating them.
Hold out hand and says i am in this one with you.

aaww – thank you so much my friend!! We can ALL do this together. It’s a journey that we all take and sometimes holding someone else’s hand at the same time helps us on our journey. Congrats on your 12 pounds – it is a daily challenge. We can do this ❤ June ❤

You are right that it’s a lifestyle change. Even when you cheat you cheat less. It’s all about less. Even Thanksgiving Day. You want to get to a point where a taste or two will satisfy and you will. It’s a slow process so don’t beat yourself up! Cheers!

Thank you my friend! That’s what I need to here – support and guidance. I really appreciate that. We compromised last night on Thanksgiving and like you said, less of a cheat is better than a huge uh-oh what have I done to myself cheat. Hugs ❤ June ❤

In march I gave up bread and all things made with wheat flour. Big change! I’ve cheated a few times with a slice of pizza or crust of toast, but have done well. If you just make one change, get rid of one white thing like sugar, you can lower your levels. And eat good FAT! My friend lost 92 pounds by losing the sugar and putting the real fat back in.

That is so totally awesome to hear my sweet friend. That is what I’m trying to do – get rid of sugar. I’m trying to do good fats in my diet. It’s a battle but I know I can do it. ❤ June ❤

Don’t view it as a battle. View as taking a different path. You’ll see different things, smell different smells, and enjoy things in a different way. The tortoise always gets there in the end!

Hi. It’s Jasper’s mum – Liz here. I lost 25 kg (55 pounds) by stopping eating bread and excerising more. Eat less and do more. I started swimming again and going for walks. What I found helped is weighing myself daily and keeping a record of it on a spread sheet. Sort of a visual reminder of how well I was doing. It is a journey but one that does have an end in sight. The other thing we have done is cut down on the amount of meat we eat. A lot more lentiles and beans. Let us know how you are doing. Regards Liz.

That’s the game plan. No sugars/white bread. I’m also trying to walk more which is hard some days with my pain levels BUT any little bit helps, right? Thank you so much for your info – trust me I am using all of the helpful suggestions I can get! XOXO – Bacon

Some people find it helpful to write down everything they eat in a day and/or take a photo of themselves to remind them of what they look like.

Great suggestions! You know I took a picture last night and I am recording everything in an app I found on my cell phone. Once you have it in black/white, you can really see where all of your calories are going. I am shocked! Little things are adding up. ❤ June ❤

For sure, J. You will do this. It helps to have the motivation of good health behind the weight loss. Mom has a friend who lost a hundred pounds, so we know it’s doable. It took her a year, but the important thing is walking through one healthy day at a time.
Love and licks,

Hi June, I am so proud of you for your enthusiastic determination to eat clean! I do a lot of advocacy work on this issue, spent most of my life eating really badly and about 8 years ago, got incredibly serious about doing better. It’s not the easiest thing but it is absolutely the right thing to do for yourself (and your loved ones–and your anipals who need you!!!) Quick tip (not that you asked but here goes anyway)–try to prepare your own food as much as possible. That way you can control what goes into, how it’s put together and how much you want. Plus, homemade tastes great, is cheaper and is generally more nutritious. OK, it takes time–that is the hardest part–but with planning and all of your enthusiasm, *you can do it*!!! We believe in you!!! Best wishes & please don’t hesitate to call on all your blog buddies for any help or advice! 🙂

THANK YOU!! When I went to the store this past weekend, I had exactly what you said in mind. I bought things to FIX for meals. It does take planning but I am trying and that’s a lot of it right there – trying to prepare in advance. The hub is used to eating out a lot with my schedule and just being the two of us. We are curtailing that and compromising that he can have some weekend ventures but during the week, we stay clean and on plan. It’s a lifestyle change that needs to happen for the rest of our lives. And the best part is that this time, I have the support and guidance from all of my friends here which is fantastic! Thank you again sweet friend. June

I am on board June. I am more than on board….I need to lose about 30 pounds. I have slowly been creeping up in weight until now I feel its too much. I must move more but my eating is not bad although they are all the wrong things. I am watching what I eat. I have lost 2 pounds in 3 weeks. Not good!
