Welcome my friends to November’s Bacon’s Show and Tell.
For November – we are sharing party pictures focusing on Thanksgiving. What did you and your family do for Thanksgiving – or any other big holiday where you are. Did your family get together? Did you go out to eat? Did you cook out?
Since mom and dad were married 11 years ago, they started a yearly tradition of eating out at a special place on Thanksgiving. They go downtown to a restaurant called Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse in Atlanta, Georgia.
When you get to the table, there is a disc on the table. One side is green for go – as in bring the food to my belly – snorts. The other side is red – as in I’m so full I’m going to blow! This is one of daddy’s all time favorite restaurants in the entire world. Talk about a meat bonanza. They have a huge salad bar with everything you can imagine and then you flip your disc to green and all of these wonderful gauchos come to your table with meat in spears cutting it table side. Can you lick your lips and say yummy?
But mom, she loves these little rolls called PÃO DE QUEIJO that are served at the tables in baskets. Mom calls them heaven on earth and saved herself for these all week long. They are warm, soft cheesy bread rolls that are brought to your table in baskets throughout your entire meal. It’s like magic. As soon as the basket is empty, it is quickly replenished. Mom/dad wouldn’t admit to how many baskets they went through. The only thing they would say is that they are back to no bread now. Makes you wonder huh? They are made with sweet and sour yucca flour and Parmesan cheese and are gluten-free.
One of the meats that the serve that are mom/dad’s favorite is called PICANHA which is the prime part of the top sirloin. Who needs turkey on thanksgiving huh? Which mom says they do have but this picanha is worth saving one’s self for. It is also the restaurants signature steak. They lightly seasoned it with rock salt and slice it thin to whatever degree you want it – medium, well or rare. As you can see in this picture, dad is jumping head first and asking questions later. Yes it it that good.
So this is our part of blast from the past in 2004 when mom/dad started this tradition of going out for their holiday. We hope that you enjoyed it my friends!
Oh my friends – the overwhelming support that you have all shown me this past week has been so totally awesome! I have been blown away by the suggestions, the wonderful comments and the encouragement. I just know I can do this now. And did you notice my blog heading, “Journey with Friends“? It has been suggested that not only can this be a place for “ME”, it can be a place for others as well that are going down this path of better health. Some place where we can all meet up once a week for encouragement and strength. Please feel free to share any of your wisdom – great recipes, motto’s, encouragement, ideas, suggestions and/or your weight loss stories and goals.
Squeals!! This has been a wonderful week off from work and just trying to take care of me. I watched what I was eating but did not “plan” on losing any weight. I was so pleasantly surprised Saturday on weigh in day that I was down two more pounds! I’ll take it my friends. I in no way denied myself this week of anything but did eat in moderation. And of course, we walked a lot during the week.
You just can imagine how thrilled I am at 8 pounds in two weeks during the holiday. This week I will definitely be concentrating more on my food choices and staying on plan.
Squeals. I wasn’t the only one that had an awesome holiday. My Bashful did too – be sure to check this out my friends. Bashful had a blast with cousin Sammy! XOXO – Bacon
Sometimes when daddy goes shopping he finds the most amazing things. Sometimes – and I’m just saying sometimes – especially during this time of the year placing the price tag is very important and can change everything. Just as in this case. Bet you never think of the show on television or this book again the same way – snorts with piggy laughter.
Oh friends – I hope that you have had a fantastic week. I know we have since mom has been home from the worky place this past week. We have all snuggled and slept and cuddled and slept some more. I think mom is getting a lot of rest this week which is awesome to all of us anipals.
I do have to share something that mom/dad found this week. They went out yesterday morning for a little bit of this thing called Black Friday. No way I was getting up out of my nice comfortable bed at the time they left the Hotel Thompson. But somewhere along the way, dad ordered some reindeer pancakes. They looked just like this picture. Can you imagine eating Rudolph? No way! Not even this piggy has the nerve to eat Santa’s head reindeer. That has to put dad on Santa’s naughty list – I’m just saying.
And don’t worry – I am especially glad this time that dad didn’t bring me home a piggy bag – snorts. But on the other hoof, mom did. And let me tell you – it was fantastic.
.
What did mom bring me? Pancake puppies. Enough said? I think not – squeals. These look like hush puppies but they are not – they are made with pancake batter and called puppies. They are served with syrup which mom/dad went with sugar free syrup. I on the other hoof prefer them plain and simple – straight up if you will. And I will tell you something – they are fantastic!
So did you eat anything exciting over the holiday? Anything that makes you go hhmm I would like to have some more of that? Do share my friends – do share! And have a fantastic day!
Hello my sweet friends. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. I know we did here at the Hotel Thompson. Heck, it was just plain awesome having mom home from the worky place. Did we eat too much here? Barks! Nah – do you believe that? It was like an all day food paradise. We had a blast!
And today – what do we have planned for today? Aaww – I have plans for me – for Petsmart. All of those toys – All of that food – All of those treats.
I think I can get mom to go… I think. I’ve left so many notes laying around the Hotel Thompson. I even hid all of my food and clothes to make her think that I have nothing left. That way, she thinks I need everything STAT.
And the other anipals, they gave me their lists of what they want and need. So, I’m good. I think they are going to persuade mom/dad too of a much needed trip to our toy store… I mean Petsmart. Wish us luck my friends.
Oh and to keep you held over, mom/dad did buy me a toy a couple of weeks ago. Oh my dog!! Mom says that I might love that toy a little much. What do you think?
Well that’s all for me my friends – yawns – I hope you had a wonderful week as well. Happy weekend!
Shakes head side to side. Welcome to living here at the Hotel Thompson my friends. This is what daddy woke up to this morning in the bathroom. And trust me, he fell for it. I’ve never heard a man scream so loud before. Don Juan is in deep trouble when dad gets a hold of him!
Happy Thanksgiving my dear friends. My your day be full of food surrounded by family and friends. We at the Hotel Thompson would like to send massive hogs and snout kisses to you all in wishing you a day full of love. We will be celebrating today here and would like to leave you with the attached video. Have fun my friends – much love – the gang of the Hotel Thompson
Dad is at it again. He’s trying to help mom out for the big turkey day. But for some reason, I don’t think this is what mom meant for him to “prep the turkey”. I could be wrong though. And why does mom fuss at me when I play with my food? Shakes head in piggy laughter.
Thanks to everyone for participating in this month’s edition of Shopping Around the World. It’s so awesome to see the various prices around the world – and the pictures with recipes!
Me and my pal Fozzie are hosting this month highlighting items of Thanksgiving. Appetizers, main courses, side dishes or desserts.
Most people will look at moms side dish and go no way in heck am I eating those. Dad was like that too. BUT I have to say don’t knock it until you try it. Now this is one of the side dishes that we all look forward to on Thanksgiving – or any time during the year for that matter.
So let me present moms creation of fabulous Brussel sprouts. That’s right – yummy, buttery Brussel sprouts topped with fried pancetta. I got your attention now? First up – excuse all piggies from the room which means it’s now time for mom to finish this posting. Take it away mom.
Okay friends. This is a no place for my boy Bacon to be with this recipe. You will need the following for this recipe:
Basket of delicious Brussel sprouts
Butter and/or olive oil
Salt/pepper to taste
Pancetta
Pancetta is an Italian style bacon that is salt cured and seasoned. You can usually get it from your butcher. I always keep some in our freezer here at the Hotel Thompson. Cube up about a 1/3 of a pound and put in a skillet on the stove medium heat. You are looking for a crispy consistency.
While that is working, clean and cut your Brussel sprouts in half. Once pancetta is done, remove from skillet and put on a napkin to drain the grease. Leave the bacon grease in the skillet and add either a spoonful of butter or drizzle of olive oil. Add your Brussel sprouts, stir into your bacon drippings and season with salt and pepper. Note: go light on the salt because the pancetta is already salty.
Once they have become softened, remove to a bowl and top with your crispy pancetta. Enjoy and then tell me if you like Brussel sprouts or not.
Miniature pot bellied pig and friends - Bacon, Houdini, Hemi and all of the Rock Clan with Journalist Rocky the Squirrel all out looking for adventures from the Hotel Thompson.
