31 Days of Spook – Scariest Movie

26 Oct

Oh my friends.  Let’s do a twist today.  Let’s see if you can scare me for a change.  Mom/dad were sitting the living room last night with us anipals.  The room was dark except for the flames of the fireplace.  They were talking about movies they have seen over the years that scared them silly.  Conversation went back and forth until they settled on two.

Dad’s Movie Pick – 1408.  This movie came out in 2007 and started John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson.  You see John Cusack’s character was a so called ‘ghost hunter’.  He went to famous places and would spend the night in haunted rooms.  Most of the time, nothing happened and the places were debunked.  But then while writing his latest book, he travels to New York to stay at the Dolphin Hotel in room 1408, a haunted room.  In fact, it was so haunted that the hotel would not rent the room to anyone.  Through lawyers, he finds out that if the room is vacant, the hotel has to rent it so he makes a reservation to stay.  He checks in and meets with the hotel manager, played by Samuel L. Jackson. Jackson tries everything he can to persuade Cusack’s character not to stay in the room – a room upgrade, expensive booze and even will allow Cusack to look at a book he has made showing over 50 deaths in room 1408.  But in the end, Cusack stays in 1408.  Let’s just say that 1408 is everything you can imagine it to be.

Mom’s Movie Pick – House on Haunted Hill.  This movie came out in 1999.  Mom/dad will usually go to the movies to see comedy’s but for some reason, they saw this movie in the theater.  Don’t ask me why because it’s not like them.  Mom actually watched part of the movies with her hands covering her eyes.  At one time, she even told daddy that she might have to leave – that’s how scared she was.  The entire movie is about a millionaire who offers a diverse group of people $1,000,000 to spend the night in a haunted house with a horrifying past.  “nuff said before I make water from being scared.

So my question to you my friends, what is the one movie that you saw that scared your pants off?

I liked 1408 and I couldn’t watch the house on the hill completely, that was toooo much :o) My momma got nightmares after It in the 80’s, but the scariest thing she ever saw was Rose Red. The moment Kevin Bollinger hung on the ceiling and opened his eyes, my momma screamed like a Banshee. My dad laughed like a monkey but the punishment followed swiftly: he had to escort my mom to the bathroom, he had to enter efurry room first and he had to follow her generally to all places for weeks :o)

Oh my goodness brother! I know the feeling. That was how mom felt after watching House on Haunted Hill at the theater of all places. She was so scared. She made daddy check all closets and dust bunnies under the bed. It was a horribly wicked movie. And Rose Red – mom couldn’t even make it through that one – snorts. XOXO – Bacon

my momma is a crazy bat, she even drove around the whole town to avoid a tunnel after watching Sometimes They Come Back… and the whole neighborhood was up in arms as she stumbled over a drunken guy in her entrance after watching The Fog :o)

I think The Silence of the Lambs is one of the most frightening movies I’ve ever seen.

The Ring and The Grudge – no one could say the words “seven days” around here after seeing The Ring! I think DD even wanted to get rid of the TV and DVD player… 😉

This video short scared me too!
The following is a video of a ghost taken in a Forest in Eastern Europe. This was done using high speed cameras and slowed down for the naked eye. It’s only 6 seconds, so pay attention!

I watched about half of “Pet Cemetery” and listened to about two thirds of it (some of the time I covered eyes and ears alike) – and after watching the movie (I had read the book before!) I still had nightmares and threw my then boyfriend out of the bed.

Fair Dinkum! I actually started watching 1408 just TWO DAYS ago and got so scared I announced I was very tired and I would watch the rest another time and I bolted under I mean into bed! Perhaps I will give the end another go? I have an earworm (Dad will understand) “we’ve only just begun…..” 😦 My recommendation is the up coming KRAMPUS which my small swag of teens want to see with me. It looks like fun.

This 1408 sounds scary and good. Mom likes both the actors. The movie that scared mom the most and sent her to the towel cupboard to put towels under the cupboard door and the bedroom door was, “Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte.” She was so upset by the film that her brother went and saw it. He was very tempted to do the same thing with the towels.

    Shoko

I think mom had psychological problems growing up. Other than her brother, no one else seems to be terribly scared by it.

Way back in the 70’s there was a movie called Ssss, about an evil guy who turned a man into a snake with venom. One of the creepiest things I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been around a long time.

OMP! Mommy remembers a horror movie that she saw when she was younger that had this similar story line. She has been looking for the name of it. I think that might be it. I’m going to tell her tonight. Thanks my friend! XOXO – Bacon
