You Have Got to be Kidding Me!

12 Aug

Oh dear friends.  This is just exactly what this oinker needed to hear upon returning home from camping out in the woods all week at Summer Camp.  This is what nightmares are made out of – I’m just saying!

So there we all were this past Sunday, all camped out in the living room of the Hotel Thompson watching the locals news on Fox 5 based out of Atlanta, Georgia.  This story comes up about – wait for it – a snake.  Shivers to mergatroid.  And not just any snake.  They were talking about a Gaboon Viper.

See, this lady Ms. Lora Brown was riding down the street in her vehicle in Milledgeville, Georgia when she saw something in the road in front of of her.  So she did what any of us would do.  Upon passing it, she stuck her camera out of the car window and took a picture.  Makes sense right?  Ms. Lora Brown said it was because of the unique markings that got her attention.  This photograph is the one that was shown on Fox 5 news of what Ms. Brown took.  First up, awesome markings and I applaud you Ms. Brown for taking a picture instead of creating a speed bump.

Ms. Brown contacted the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to find out what kind of snake this was.  Do you know what she was told?  It is a Gaboon Viper that originates out of South Africa and are not known to exist in the wild here in Georgia.  They are VERY venomous.  What it is doing in Georgia no one knows.  DNR can’t confirm or disprove that it is even here.  They have been out in the woods looking for it and so far have seen no signs of it.  Then again from the looks of this picture it seems that it would be able to blend very easily with the vegetation in the woods.

Thank goodness I saw this AFTER my Summer Camp.  If I had seen it before leaving, there would be no way come heaven or hell that I would be camping out in the woods.  Shivers – this is a SyFy movie in the making!

If it was closer to the Hotel Thompson, you would *have* to protect me. I can’t believe this thing is out in the wild wandering by itself – shivers. XOXO – Bacon

NOooooooooooooooo…. we live in central Florida and we DO NOT like snakes…not even snake skin shoes !!! DO NOT play in the woods. Mac found a black racer snake in the dog park on Monday…it ran away, uh, slithered away…we warned folks in the next park the snake was headed their way. Folks picked up their pups…one brave lady had a broom and she swished him out of the park….not poisonous, just scary to see…(scream)

YIKES! We (mom included) are NOT fans of snakes! We double checked, because we’ve never heard of a Gaboon Viper in our parts and they are actually from West Africa – places like Ghana, Anglo and the Ivory Coast *HUGE sigh of relief*. That’s not to say we don’t have our fair share of venomous snakes – go take a look at some of these when you’ve got a minute: Black Mamba, Green Mamba (aka Boomslang – translates to: Tree Snake), Cape Cobra and the Rhinkals.

Africa, well South Africa, to be precise is not for sisies! BOL!

I saw some of them when I was doing my research my friends. I almost passed out! They are so scary looking. I can’t believe this one is slithering loose here in Georgia. How in the world did it get here?! I would never want to come snake face to piggy face with that thing – squeals! XOXO – Bacon

UHOH…….this is NOT GOOD…….I hate snakes and so does my Mom but THIS ONE is super dangerous – you just know that someone had it as a PET (yikes) and it got loose or dumped or SOMETHING and now is on the loose. ICKY……

    Hugs, Sammy

this is one of Mom pet peeves – when she worked as the manager at a pet store she constantly talked people out of buying reptiles because she knew most people had no idea to look after them and no idea about how big many of them can grow. those little 12 inch snakes you see in a pet store can grow up to be a 12 foot monster !

OMP! Can you imagine that?! Your mom was good to do that. People don’t think that babies grow up and become adults. It’s unimaginable. XOXO – Bacon

ewwww…. maybe someone bought the snake as a pet and dumped it or it escaped? or it was an illegal passenger of a truck or a ship? my mom takes photos of efurrything… but I’m sure even she would skip to take a photo of such an “object” :o) btw: have you seen a running girl? please send her back, I’m hungry lol
