My friends – I’ve thought of something so cool. Today, let’s share some helpful tips. Perhaps there is something that you do to make life easier for you that could make life easier for everyone.
For instance, mom has three magnets on the refrigerator. One is a dog, one is a cat and one is an alligator. Yes you read that right. An alligator – rolls piggy eyes. Mommy couldn’t find a piggy magnet. Too funny that the alligator represents me – snorts. Anyway, they are always kept in the same spot on the fridge. When mom feeds the cats, she takes down the cat one. When she feeds the dog, she takes down the dog one. And then when she feeds moi, she takes down the alligator one. That way, just in case she is running late or sleeping in and daddy has to feed us, he knows which one of us have been fed or not fed. So no more double feeding – darns it.
Another thing mom does at work is that she keeps a shot glass on her desk. Snorts and rolls with piggy laughter – not for drinking you funny person. She keeps her staple remover in it. She goes through a LOT of papers and a lot of times has to remove the staples. She removes the staples and then puts them in the shot glass to hold them while she goes through the entire stack of papers. Then all she has to do and toss the contents from the shot glass when she is finished. Something easy that helps her out a bit.
Do ever wonder how daddy is able to do household chores without ‘seeing’? For anyone that has vision problems, these are very helpful tips. Mom taped a toothpick to the washing machine. When daddy does the washing, he feels for the toothpick so he knows how far to turn the dial. Mom also taped a key disc (you know the ones that are colored and are empty in the middle that you put on your keys for coding) to the oven on the “on” button. If daddy wants to cook something in the oven, he feels for the disc and is able to turn the oven on. Mom also put a key disc on the on button of the microwave.
What are some helpful tips that you can share?

I had a blind great-uncle, who had to have his things kept in the usual places. It was very organized with them, that way! Things had to be relocated after use so that my uncle could find them.
I make a personal tip how to cut bell peppers and mangoes:
Bell peppers: Cut away the top and the bottom and then you can remove the seeds with a long, sharp knife by just going round the inside hull.
Then cut the hull up into chunks or stripes just as you like without having to bother with seeds and white skin.

Mangoe, just in case you don’t know how to deal with that one:
Have you noticed? Again there are SHARP knives used. That is my most important advice, keep knives SHARPENED. Dull knives are more likely to cause you to cut yourself! (Counterintuitively, I know)

Being blind does have advantages that everything is *always* put back in its place. We try to keep things organized like that here at the Hotel Thompson to help dad out. He can function fully with just a little help from us.
Awesome tip! I’ll have to show that to mom for her to try. Thanks my friend. XOXO – Bacon

Cool tips! Mom labels things in the fridge and freezer obsessively. When she opens a carton of almond milk, she writes the date on top. Then she knows when to toss the remainder since it’s good for 7-10 days after opening. Ditto half and half, chicken stock and other things that can expire before they’re finished. Everything in the freezer is portioned and labeled in Ziplock bags.
Love and licks,

I totally like the idea with the shot glass, it’s annoying to have that staples efurrywhere… even in your paws :o( We always have one of that cheap car refreshers on the bottom of our trashcan (outside of the trashbag), it really helps to avoid bad smell and you are greeted by tropical-mango or english leather always when you lift up the top of your trashcan :o)

oh brother – that is an awesome tip. I’ll have to tell mommy about that. Our trashcan can sometimes take your breathe away. What are those humans eating, right? Snorts. XOXO – Bacon

Pretty smart tips! Recently I saw a tip to keep your charger from falling to the floor by running it through the backside of a paperclip attached to your desk. Works like a charm.

I like these tips…very helpful.
I am unable to turn keys because my fingers don’t move that close together so I have wrapped fabric tape around the top of the car key and can then turn the key with no problem. The house key doesn’t seem to be a problem YET.
