My Mom Needs Training Wheels

Yep, I said that out loud.  Mom needs training wheels while she is walking!  The other day her and daddy went out to dinner – who would have thought that I know – snorts.  When leaving the restaurant, mom was so concerned about guiding daddy so he wouldn’t trip that she didn’t see this boulder on the ground.  Now that is her word – boulder.  I’m sure it wasn’t actually that big.  She hit the ‘boulder’ with her shoe.  Did I mention that she had on these really cute sandals that had openings to show her toes with their cute little pedicure colors?  She tripped, stumbled and thank goodness daddy was holding her hand so she didn’t fall down. So there she is stumbling while daddy is singing, “I’ll tumble for you” by Boy George – shakes piggy head. That’s the good part.  The bad part you ask?  Well, her big toe found the ‘boulder’.  She broke her toe nail, messed up her cute little pedicure and jerked her body from almost falling.  So as she tells daddy, she now has a catch in her giddy up.  Shakes head.  Only my mother huh?

So now mom has a catch in her giddy up, a messed up pedicure and guess who else wants to come out and play?  Mean old Mr. Arthritis.  She is also having a bad flare up with pain due to this weather that belongs in hell.  Yes I said it.  Hell.  It pushes the high 90’s every day.  When we get rain, it just makes things more steamy afterwards.  And it feels like we can never get the Hotel Thompson cool enough.  Daddy says he feels the power company lowers the power around 5pm every day.  Maybe it’s that or too many people turn their thermostats down during that time?  hhhmm – it makes you wonder doesn’t it?  Either way, even with fans you just can’t cool down and the heat is messing with mom’s arthritis.

So there you go.  You have my mom who is the stumbling toe cruncher catch in her giddy up hurting from the heat from arthritis gal at this moment.  Does that paint a picture for you?  Please send her some healing vibes and prayers this way if you don’t mind.  She’s having a hard time getting up and moving and standing and sitting.  Snorts – pretty much she has the trifecta of pain these past couple of days.  I’m hoping that this weekend she can get plenty of rest and some extra tender loving care from daddy and all of us anipals.

And tomorrow – oh joybells – we so can’t wait here.  We can’t be late for a very important date.  Mommy is expecting a phone call from someone here on blogville that is almost like a sister to her… someone that we have spoke to via blogville a LOT but never by phone  They are calling tomorrow at 2:30 pm our time.  We are ALL excited to talk to these peeps.

Can you guess who it will be?  We will post about it next week.  YAY!

National Yellow Pig Day

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

Keeping my paws on the nuts of the world

.

Hallelujah! Can you believe they make a holiday for this little oinker we have here at the Hotel Thompson called Bacon? It’s not enough that he’s a spoiled little tyke, now he has holidays. It’s certainly a great reason to celebrate with Bacon – we’ll take that any day.

National Yellow Pig Day is today, July 17th. This is not to be confused with National Pig Day celebrated on March 1st every year. Are you wondering what the difference is between the two pig day holidays? Let me explain it to you 🙂

National Pig Day on March 1st, recognizes and appreciates domesticated pigs, like Bacon. Pot-bellied pigs are often found in petting zoos and sometimes they can be found in regular every day homes like at the Hotel Thompson as members of the family. (I would say as pets but we all know that Bacon has gone beyond that category and is now a ‘member’ of the family. Some would say a child.) I’m sure you already know due to Bacon’s blog here that pigs are highly clever and intelligent animals. They will focus in on one thing until they accomplish whatever they are trying to do. Pigs like Bacon can learn how to open doors, gates, fetch like dogs, roll over and other amazing tricks. Ellen Stanley, an art teacher in Texas, created National Pig Day in 1972. Her intent was to to recognize and be thankful for pigs as intelligent domestic animals. And I have to admit, this holiday is HUGE at the Hotel Thompson.

Yellow Pig Day on July 17th is a mathematician’s holiday celebrating yellow pigs and the number 17. Have you ever seen a yellow pig in real life? Probably not, but wouldn’t it be fun to have them yellow? Why not celebrate yellow pigs anyway! This holiday has been celebrated yearly since the early 1960’s, primarily by mathematicians on college campuses but hey it’s a holiday – let’s celebrate! I wonder if Bacon’s Aunt Tina knows about this date? Did you know that she is in fact a mathematician and a college professor? See smartness runs in the Thompson family 🙂

The Yellow Pig was created by mathematicians Michael Spivak and David C. Kelly in the early 1960’s. Spivak and Kelly were students at Princeton University, studying of course mathematics. History was made as they were listing interesting properties of the number 17. During this thought wave, the yellow pig was born. The yellow pig and the number 17 have been linked ever since.

So, spend some time today thinking and working in multiples of 17 and thinking about little yellow pigs.

Paw Time with Houdini

Welcome my friends to another great week of Paw Time with Houdini.  This week has been awesome – isn’t every week?  Of course, it’s been busy too.  Last weekend, we had a family meeting and Bacon was advised that he is going to summer camp.  Now I thought it would be cool but Bacon is so against it.  That oinker really doesn’t like nature does he?  He has tried every excuse and had one-on-one meetings with mom and dad trying to wiggle himself out of the situation.  But it’s not going to work.  Mom is insisting on him going to Summer Camp – seven entire days in nature.

This week also ended Shark Week.  And you knew it was coming, didn’t you.  Mom was going to dress me up like Shark Bait.  I knew it.  So finally, she got my costume out and put it on me.  Rolls doggy eyes.  I let her get one somewhat potential photograph.  I just wasn’t feeling it.  That outfit was H.O.T.  Did I mention we are in the south here and it is H.O.T.?  It is.  So she got a quicky picture.

There is a hat that actually comes up over my head and it has little slits for my ears to poke through.  She had me all fixed up for like five seconds when she put me down in the ‘waters’ of the hardwood floor – Barks!

But anyway, she got a little picture to submit to Discover for Shark Week.  Don’t I look mean and ready to eat you up?!  Okay maybe not.

.

I also had Doggy Daycare this week and got to go up to Nana’s house.  Bacon tried really hard and persuaded me to talk to Nana about his situation.   He doesn’t believe me but even Nana said that it would be good for him to be away from mom/dad and be with others for Summer Camp.  They are really pushing this.  I’ll be honest with you.  I kind of feel sorry for the guy a bit.

But back to doggy daycare.  This was the day that I go to Nana’s.  Me and the other pooches at Nana’s get the works.  Danielle the groomers comes out to the house and gives us all special time in her R.V.  We get baths, massages, blow drys, cuts, nails – the entire works!  Then I get to hang out with Nana, Tinkerbelle and Dingo until mom picks me up when she gets off of the worky place.  Also me being at doggy daycare, this gives daddy his day to get the big stuff done at the Hotel Thompson.  You know, washing the bed sheets, changing the beds, getting dinner ready, mopping.  Things he supposedly can’t do with me under his feet.  I don’t know what he means by that.  I’m just there helping.. right?

Well that’s all for me my friends – yawns – I hope you had a wonderful week as well.  Happy weekend!
