This month we received a suggestion from our friends Reilly and Denny with Cowspotdog. This month we are pricing FIVE items from two different stores for price comparisons in your area. Now, we are going to make this kind of easy. FIVE items of your choice in making a meal. Of course, you can use more than FIVE items to make your meal but you have to price comparison shop FIVE items from TWO different stores.
We here at the Hotel Thompson have been trying to eat better these days and with it being so darn hot, we have been eating a lot of salads. With that in mind, we took this month’s shopping adventure with the makings of one of our favorite week day meals.
1 – Head of lettuce. It’s funny how the price of a head of lettuce fluctuates so much. We went to Kroger where it was 0.99 a head. Publix had it for $1.19 a head.
2 – Seedless Grapes. We got a small bag of red seedless grapes, 1/2 pound, at Kroger on sale for $1.19 a pound. At Publix, they had the same for $2.39 a pound.
3 – Shaved Ham. Don’t tell Bacon okay. We got the store brand low sodium ham shaved at the deli at Kroger for $4.99 a pound. Publix brand for the same was $6.99 a pound.
4 – Cheese. We buy the block of cheese from Kraft and cut and shred what we need. A block on sale this week at Kroger was $2.50. Publix also had it for $2.50.
5 – Strawberries. In the summer time, it’s a fight for fresh strawberries. We love them and they are one of Bacon’s favorites. I like to slice them up and put them in salads. We bought a package from Kroger for $2.50. The same package at Publix was $4.99 this week.
Things also in this salad were chopped pecans and tossed with Catalina Dressing. The all time perfect summer salad in this Georgia heat!
Hope everyone had fun this month – I know we did!

Mom is MAKING us miss this month AGAIN! Something about having too much work to catch up because SHE decided to go on holiday *PFFFT!*
Those prices differences aren’t too bad except for the h.a.m. and strawberries – yum and yum!

Snorts – We are going to have to get your mom – rolls with piggy laughter. And the strawberries are delicious – one of my favorites. Although the h.a.m. I can *so* do without – snorts. XOXO – Bacon

Yes it is! We knew that Kroger was cheaper than Publix but it really shows when you list the prices down in black and white. Great suggestion this month my friend. Hope you are feeling better! XOXO – Bacon

wow your grapes have a super price… ours are friggin expensive at the moment, so my mom brought the expensive Caprice des dieux cheese back and picked mac&cheese instead LOL I love your salad… I think pecans and such a tasty dressing it’s a little like art… not just food :o) btw: today the summer sale started.. mom survived by the skin of ones teeth… it was like living in neandervalley… some people have still some monkey-genes… and guess what she bougth? nothing, nada, zero, zippo…. shall we better call the dogtor? seems something is seriously wrong with her…

What?! Your mom didn’t buy ANYTHING? Is she sick? Did you take her temperature? Do I need to all the news media? Something has to be wrong with her brother – snorts. Mom/dad have been loving this salad and having been eating a lot of it lately. Which I don’t mind because while Houdini begs for pieces of ham, I beg for pieces of grapes and strawberries 🙂 It’s a win-win situation. XOXO – Bacon

This looks very Yummy again, Bacon. It’s almost unbelievable that the prices are so different in different supermarkets. It looks like one has a minimum price and the other has a max…I wonder where we can find a middle… Here’s our contribution for this month. We had lots of fun again, preparing this post. Thanks for hosting this event my furriend 🙂 Pawkisses 🙂 ❤

Thank YOU my friend for participating. I loved your pizza. Now *I* want pizza – snorts. XOXO – Bacon
P.S. And yes stores are weird. Mom talks about that all of the time. Kroger has the cheaper prices but here they have zero customer service. On the other hoof, Publix has awesome customer service but higher prices. We need a happy medium to keep me in piggy chow – snorts
