Sherlock Bones – My Cousin

Hey friends.  I’m not sure if you remember my cousin, Sherlock Bones, that lives in Chicago with my Aunt Tina.  I wanted to introduce you to him – he’s just hanging out listening to some leadership theories.  You know just hanging.  He’s a smart guy – right up there with the likes of me.  Snorts – yeah.  We would make awesome sidekicks.

Couldn’t you see him as Sherlock Holmes.. I mean Bones and me as his trusty-yet-handsome-adorable-snuggly assistant Dr. Watson?  I think it would be a perfect fit.

We could travel the world with the likes of Scooby Doo solving mysteries and working for awesome food.  What?  What do we need money for?  That’s why we have humans – snorts.

Who would be your side kick my friends?

Bacon’s Show and Tell

For Bacon’s Show and Tell for March we are focusing on another great toy you had from childhood.  Mom and dad both had this toy.  They played with it for hours – you could mess things up, redo the picture, write stuff and draw beautiful pictures… if you were talented – snorts.  What was this awesome toy you are asking.

An Etch-A-Sketch.  Do you remember them now?  Oh my pigs.  Mommy got a dreamy look on her face as she reminisced about her memories.  One of her favorite things was going line by line only moving inches at a time to the left to make the entire screen blacked out.  What a thrill that was when you couldn’t see any part of the screen – snorts – mom was so easily amused for sure.  She said that hers got broken because one of her brothers stepped on the glass part.  Another toy that had a brief life expectancy but was fun while she had it.

Dad remembers playing with his as well.  He had more talent… I guess you could call it that… and he would draw on his.  Now, I’m not saying that you would recognize the pictures – snorts – but he would attempt at it.  And then write messages on it and erase them to keep them secret.  He doesn’t remember what happened to his childhood inspiration.  It’s probably a good thing.

Can’t wait to visit other blogs and see what they had as one of their cherished toys from childhood.  Hope you had fun this month my friends!

Dear Bacon – Sleeping Edition

NOTE:  Due to Bacon’s Show and Tell coming out tomorrow (3/31/2015), I am featuring my weekly Tuesday edition of Dear Bacon issue today.  I hope you enjoy my friends!

20140111-200522.jpg

Dear Bacon –  When you are tired, you are tired.  What can I say?  I’ve watched the humans here at my paradise.  When they come home from work, they lay down on the couch and put their legs up.  I thought I would give it a whirl.  I gotta say, it’s awesome.  So relaxing and peaceful.  Have you ever tried this?  Signed Forty Winks

Dear Forty Winks –  You know you look so peaceful there my friend.  I’m going to have bounce the purr things off of the couch here, climb up and stretch on the big boy couch to see what it feels like.  I have gotten on mom’s love seat with her but somehow your position looks so appealing.  Thanks for the tidbit of information.  I’m off to see if purr things can fly now.  Snorts

20140111-200536.jpg

Dear Bacon – The mailman was being so rude when he snapped this picture.  Yes I was taking a power nap.  But let me set the record straight right now.  If he had opened the gate or stepped one toe into my space, I would have been on him like a casing on a sausage.  I’m just sayin’ – no joking around.  I protects what is mind.  Signed Power Pup

Dear Power Pup – You know my friend I believe you.  How dare that mailman take this photograph of you and send it to your humans.  I just know you will get even for that little mis-step… right?  I’m sure a great sneak attack barking ferociously will set that guy in his place… in more ways than one.  Keep me posted.

20140111-200546.jpg

Dear Bacon – My human said I was quote, “Flying off of the rafters” and advised me to take a nap.  Yes that is right.  She sent me to her room while she had company.  Hhmmphh – I was sore for a few minutes.  That is until I pounced on top of the big bed and got comfy on her pillow.  These humans have the life!  What luxury they sleep in – and they expect us to sleep on the floor.  I don’t think so.  This pillow is now marked MINE… all MINE.  Signed Spoiled Puss

Dear Spoiled Puss –  Hey, I’m with you my friend.  The humans do sleep in luxury.  I agree 100%.  That’s why every time I get a chance, I’m so on mom/dad’s Select Comfort bed right in the middle with *my* pillow.  And yep, I would be a 65 on the Sleep Number bed – snorts.  Happy Dreams.

20140111-200601.jpg

Dear Bacon – Our human went to sleep while we were out playing.  We heard them snoring. Dude, they can make the racket louder than any of us, right?  Well, me and my twin thought we would just stare at them until it woke them up.  Have you ever done this?  It’s a fun game.  The woke with a start.  I think we have powers… secret powers.  Signed Pig Powers

Dear Pig Powers – One pig to you two, I *know* we have super powers.  The humans just don’t realize it but they will soon when we take over the world!  Snorts – Pig Power

20140111-200613.jpg

Dear Bacon – Oh dude.  I went out last night with the boys and things got a little wild.  Okay maybe a LOT wild. I woke up like this on a picnic table in a yard I don’t know with none of my friends.  I don’t even know what we did.  Shakes head – what a night!  Signed Cat Calling

Dear Cat Calling – Oh my friend, you need to slow down and rethink your life.  You don’t even know what you did, where you ended up at and no friends to help you in case something happened while you were sleeping.  You might want to rethink that party life and focus on the future.  Your college cat calling nights on the fence might be over.  Take care of you okay!

REMEMBER FRIENDS – We can’t have Dear Bacon issues without YOU.  Keep your pictures and questions coming to me via email 🙂

I’ve Created a New Season – Happy Sprinter

This picture is from Wikipedia.  It shows the typical seasons – Spring, Summer, Fall and then Winter.  That’s the way it’s suppose to fall.  But this year, dear old Mother Nature is not playing fairly.  Mommy says she needs hormone shots and daddy says she needs more dates with Father Time.  I’m not sure which one is right.  I just know that maybe she needs a kick in the butt.  Yep, I said.  I kick right smack in the middle of her captains quarters.

You see, this weekend is what I’m talking about.  Saturday here at the Hotel Thompson we get up and it is beautiful.  There’s no other way to put it.  The birds are chirping (and that’s a story for another time – snorts), the sun is out, the wind is just right and the temperatures are in the 60’s.  You couldn’t ask for a more gorgeous day.  Mom and me went out to wash her Smart car Albert.  It only took less than five minutes by throwing a cup of water at it – snorts.  I kill myself.

20140112-143627.jpg

Our neighbor Big Daddy had cut our yard and the back yard was spectacular.  Thanks Big Daddy!  We went out there and ran for a while.  Mommy says it was for me to get some sun and I said I understood.  Secretly I knew she wanted me to run some excess Winter weight off so I would sleep more deeply tonight.  I’m good with that.  I just wonder why she didn’t make daddy do the same.  Double snorts.

It was a wonderful day.  Lots of running, loving and snuggles.

Then BAM!  What a change Sunday.  Sunday brought us rain, cool weather and strong winds.  We could actually sit inside and hear the winds!  We all got up and had breakfast together.  It was so damp and yuck outside that after breakfast, we all went back to bed.  Now, I’m not hating days like this because usually, like this day, when we go back to bed we all get on the Select Comfort for a siesta.  It was great.

Picture this.  A king sized Select Comfort bed with two humans, two purr things and a piggy.  Snorts, I’m a 65 with mommy on the Select Comfort.  Daddy and the purr things are a 100.  That’s just too hard for this little oinker.  When we got up from our nap, it was still yuck outside.

Now, I’m telling you all of this for a reason.  It’s suppose to be Spring but it still acts like Winter.  I’m suggesting a new season called – Sprinter.  You get it?  Spring with Winter.  So sometime today, tell someone Happy Sprinter.  Then smile and remember my little story here.  🙂

Happy Sprinter my pals!

I Found Mom’s Birthday Present

Okay her birthday is not until July but I found mom the *perfect* birthday present.  What do you think?  Daddy ordered them for me today with his credit card.  YIPPEE!!  I think this is by far the most perfect present I could have ever gotten her.  You know how much that woman loves the mouse – you know the real one.  Mickey Mouse.  She is going to go goo-goo gah-gah over this – squeals with delight.

But sshhh – don’t tell her.  It’s our little secret okay my friends.

Paw Time with Houdini

Hello my sweet friends.  It’s been a great week here at the Hotel Thompson – okay maybe great is not the ideal word to use so let’s use almost great 🙂 Let me tell you everything that has happened to me this week.

You see last Saturday I spend the day at Nana’s while mom and dad went to the worky place.  Of course I can’t tell you what happened at Nana’s because what happens at Nana’s stays at Nana’s.  Barks – but I can tell you that I *never* come home hungry.  That tell you anything?  Of course it does but I didn’t say it, right?  Well mom and dad picked me up Saturday night and took me home.  See there’s one thing you might not know about me and Yorkies – we play *hard*.  I ran and ran and ran – you get the picture for almost an hour straight!  I was so excited about being home and playing with the purr things and my bud Bacon – I just couldn’t stop myself.  Well, I ran so hard that all of that food I had at Nana’s… guess what?  Yep – nods doggy head.  It came back and not in a way I wanted it to.  I’ll just let you envision that for a second.  I got sick and ended up in mom’s arms after she cleaned the floor and me up.  That’s me resting in mom’s arms.  She told me I had to cool my running for a bit.  She even said that if I got sick one more time that night, she might have to take me to the doctor.  So I took a siesta and got some loving from mom and dad.  What can I say?  I’m still a puppy at heart, right?

I also learned a new game this week – Patty Cakes.  One of my favorite things now is to get mommy when she is on the couch, throw myself backwards into her arms and play Patty Cake with her human hands.  It’s so totally fun!  Have you ever played this game?  See my paws up in the air like I just don’t care – barks.  We will play for a while until I get sleepy.  I’m so easily amused huh? Daddy doesn’t get the game yet but mom is a big fan.

I also went to Nana’s on Wednesday for my grooming.  Nana has a special groomer that comes to her house to do me and my cousin Tinkerbell.  I got my spring/summer cut.  My hair was totally getting too long and in my eyes.  My beard was catching everything when I ate and drunk.  And plus all of that long hair was making my t-shirts fit a little too tight.  I’m grooving it now.

Well that’s all for me my friends – yawns – I hope you had a wonderful week as well.  Happy weekend!

Shopping Around the World

My friend Fozzie and I have scheduled a group posting today of Shopping Around the World.   We thought it would be interesting to see the differences between different countries all over. Here are our prices for the following from our area – Georgia USA.

 Items to price this month:

  • Milk.  Mom usually buys 1/2 gallon store brand which lately has been on sale for $1.00
  • Tomatoes.  Mom loves Roma tomatoes.  They are small but meaty.  She bought some for the dinner at $1.29 a pound – that was about 4 tomatoes.
  • Canned Product.  Black beans.  How could you possibly go wrong with black beans – especially when you can buy store brand for a $1.00 a can.  Mom bought two cans for the meal.
  • Homemade Dish.  Jalapeno Cornbread with Black Beans 🙂 yum – see below
  • Random Item of your choice.  Jalapeno.  Mom bought one very large one and it only cost $0.69 the day she was at the market.

Okay my friends.  Mommy went easy – really easy on this month’s Shopping Around the World – go mom!  She was able to combine all of her prices and items into the Homemade Dish – which is one of our favorites here at the Hotel Thompson.

Jalapeno Cornbread made with with a diced up Jalapeno (according to taste how much you throw in), cup of milk, 1 egg, 2 tablespoons of melted butter, 1 cup of cornmeal and shredded cheddar cheese.  We have a small iron skillet that will serve four slices of cornbread.  Mix ingredients, except for shredded cheddar cheese, and bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  When done turn over skillet onto a plate and top with shredded cheddar cheese.

Black Beans with tomatoes, diced Jalapeno’s and diced red onions. So easy here – snorts.  Open store bought black beans and heat over the stove on medium heat.  Add a little chicken broth (or whatever broth you have on hand), diced Jalapenos (to taste for heat) and diced tomatoes.  When bubbles, turn down to low and stir.

When bread is ready, spoon black beans into bowl and top with more diced tomatoes.  Mom even added some cilantro into the mix this date.  A meal made for a king and queen.  Filling and hot for a cold rainy night that we seem to be having a LOT of lately.  Happy eats my friends.

Oh… and this entire meal when you break it down ends up to be around less than $6.00 for two people.

I hope you had fun my friends with this month’s edition of Shopping Around the World.  Hope to see you shopping soon!
