National Thank a Mailman Day

04 Feb

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

“Keeping my paws on the nuts of the world!”

Today, February 4th is National Thank a Mailman Day. Do you hear that pups? That means don’t chase the mailman on this date! Instead of chasing the mailman, today gives you a chance to say thank you. They deliver the mail six days a week regardless of the weather either by postal truck and walking routes. Do you remember the old Pony Express motto? “Neither rain, nor snow, nor death of the night, can keep us from our duty!” This motto is believed to be taken in part from a motto dating back to ancient times! You also hear it this way some times, “Through rain or snow, or sleet or hail, we’ll carry the mail. We will not fail.”

So pets near and far away, go sit by the mailbox today. Maybe bring a bone and give it to the mailman. Tell him thank you.

Rocky, I would bark that mailguy a thank you, but this guy is a coward and he said we have to pick up our mails at the post office, he is sick of all that maneating dogs… pfff as if I would eat such an ole guy… bet he is not tasty… … maybe the malinois in my street likes such a postguy-steak… she acted that way and her owners have to go to the post office too hahahabut I could give my dad a bone, because he brings my mail home :o)

So your dad technically wears the mailman hat – cool dude. Tell him thank you because he brings you all the good things, right – R

Mail six days a week? Where do you live? They are talking about quitting mail delivery all together here and then we’d have a box to go get the mail. Hey, this is the guy that brings mom my recheck renewal form from the vet. Hey, thanks a lot dude…want some hypoallergenic soy crumbles. We’d love to share.

We get mail six days a week here too! Monday thru Saturday, and if you have a package, our mail even delivers packages on Sunday.

WOW – You know they started doing something like that here with packages but I haven’t seen them in my hood on Sundays yet 🙂 XOXO – Bacon

I have seen our mail carriers deliver packages on Sundays before and it was weird to see them doing that.

That really would be. I’ve heard about them doing that here. The postal service gets on mom’s nerves. They want more money yet they do this Sunday service. AND have you been in the post office lately? Mom says they are not as nice as they once were. XOXO – Bacon

What? They were nice at one point? I have never witnessed that ever!

Snorts – mom just said the same. Shakes my head – maybe I was dreaming 🙂 XOXO – Bacon

Snorts and rolls with laughter. That’s funny about soy crumbles as a thank you. Here in the states they deliver through the week and on Saturdays. They talked about stopping weekend delivery a couple of times but haven’t done it yet. XOXO – Bacon

You are lucky! They are just talking about stopping home delivery all together here. We would have a box on the corner though…lucky us. Six days a week….unbelievable! If our mailman doesn’t think your dog is safe he won’t come in your yard…also if you haven’t shovelled the snow well enough. The mailmen are kinda picky here.

That is picky! We haven’t had a ‘regular’ guy in a while since the last one retired. We’ve just had temp guys every day. Hopefully soon 🙂 You know is your box on your house? Makes me wonder with you saying ‘in your yard’. We have boxes at the end of our driveways so they just drive up in front of the house. XOXO – Bacon

Our mailman is really grumpy, time for him to retire, but I left him a note in the mailbox today (with the flag up) to thank him for his service.

aaww – that is so very sweet! We still have a temp ones. We haven’t had a ‘regular’ one for some time. I should have remembered to do this today! I’ll put a note in the box for them tomorrow – better late than never, right? XOXO – Bacon

Our mailman does not deserve a nice note, but I gave him one anyway. All he does is complain, that’s why I said that it is time for this guy to retire.

Snorts! Or let me meet him at your mailbox one day. I think that’ll help him into retirement land. Snorts and rolls with laughter. XOXO – Bacon

Ha ha, now that is a good one! Send him off to retirement!

We never see our mailman. We have po box where we get our mail so we have to go to the post office to get our mail, and all of the mailmen and women are on the other side of the wall.

We had a postal strike a year or so ago and although 5-days\week service is still on the books, it never actually works out that way. Way too sporadic. I might sit by my box for a long time before I see a carrier!

Oh how awful my friend. I tend to wait for my mail carrier sometimes. He jumped at first but now he’s used to me 🙂 XOXO – Bacon

This piggy would love to snort with you :)
