Today, February 2nd is Groundhog Day. According to folklore, there are two options that could happen today:
-
If it’s cloudy when the groundhog emerges and he doesn’t see his shadow, then spring will be right around the corner; but
- If it’s sunny when the groundhog emerges, he does *see* his shadow and retreats back into his burrow, then winter will continue for six more weeks.
The largest groundhog day celebration takes place every year in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.
Personally, I hope that spring is right around the corner. I could go for some warmer weather here at the Hotel Thompson. And I know that oinker Bacon would enjoy it.

Thankfully we haven’t had any of that white stuff. My aunt Tina lives in Chicago and she has had bunches of white stuff – especially this past weekend. XOXO – Bacon

OK, is it just me or does that tradition seem backward? If it’s sunny, he sees his shadow and that means more winter. If it’s cloudy, he’s doesn’t and that means less winter. So is Groundhog Day really Opposite Day in disguise? Sheez!

I think you may be right about that. But the peeps at the Hotel Thompson go by a different standard. They go out to see if Dad sees his shadow and whether or not it looks like batman. Don’t ask me for particulars – I know nothing. It’s just a weird tradition here in these parts – chitter-chatter – R

Snorts! I hope he is right though. I need an early Spring. This winter has me in hibernation mode BAD. Mom says I just want to sleep, eat and poop and not necessarily in that order these days – snorts and rolls with laughter. XOXO – Bacon
