Tough Times at the Hotel Thompson

29 Dec

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/93d/28253568/files/2014/12/img_1305.jpg Hello my dear friends.  I hope you had a wonderful Christmas holiday.  It was wonderful here at the Hotel Thompson.  I think it was one of the best we’ve had in several years that I can remember.  What?  I’m only four – snorts.

We had some things to overcome the week of Christmas – one being mom being ill and then there was Houdini.  Cute poor little guy.  The picture to the left is one that was taken on the way to invasion of aliens procedure… well that’s what daddy calls it anyway – snorts.  He looks so pitiful doesn’t he?  He had no clue.  Now personally I don’t remember the invasion of the alien procedure but I have the scars to show for it.  Mine was done so early in my life – at three weeks.  Unbelievable huh?  Hoo-Hoo waited until six MONTHS for his procedure.  Anyway, I don’t remember mine and mom and dad so that’s a good thing.

Mom and dad dropped off the little guy at 8:00 am on Tuesday, December 23, 2014.  Mom was advised that Houdini would be abducted first.  WOW – if anything these aliens are precise huh?  Mom for some reason was a nervous wreck all morning long.  The vet’s office advised she could call around noon to check the status of the alien invasion.  Rolls piggy eyes.  Mommy doesn’t have that kind of patience so of course she called at 11:30AM.  He was in recovery.  The staff advised he was doing fine and mom could pick him up after 4:00PM.  Of course, again you know my mom’s patience level – rolls piggy eyes, she was there at the office at 3:45PM – snorts.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/93d/28253568/files/2014/12/img_1312.jpg

Mom and dad picked him up, got his medicines (he has a pain pill and an antibiotic) and brought him home.  The first he did?  He tried to lick where his alien invasion happened.  I don’t get it.  I don’t remember licking mine – but then again how could I?  My head doesn’t move like that.  Darn not having shoulders per say.

Mom immediately called the doctors office and they told her to put a shirt on him so she did.  Cute huh?  Perhaps she should have went with the shirt that said, “Problem Child”.  Snorts because he was a problem child.  He kept at it and would move his shirt.

Again mom called the vet’s office.  They advised there was the last possibility – the cone of shame.  Thud – now this should be fun.  So mom and dad dropped off Houdini at Nana’s to be watched while they drove as fast as they could in Albert the Smart car to the local pet store to get a cone of shame.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/93d/28253568/files/2014/12/img_1319.jpgOkay does this picture not look like a sign of ultimate defeat?  I actually even felt sorry for the little guy for a while.  Here he was all drugged up, recovering from surgery and then with the cone of shame.  The first couple of days, he was out of it and so was mom.  Let me tell you about the love of a mom.  Poor Hoo-Hoo, he wasn’t in pain because he was drugged.  But mommy wanted to make sure he was okay.  So what does she do?  She holds him all night long, rocks him to sleep, sings to him and rubs his little back.  All for his comfort so he knows he’s okay.  Can you say aaww?  But that’s my mom.  She’s done the same thing for all of us anipals here at the Hotel Thompson.

Yesterday was the last day of the little guy’s medicines.  I’m not sure who is more glad of that – Houdini or mom – snorts.  I admit he was really good about taking them up until Saturday.  Then he was back to giving mommy a hard time getting those two pills down twice a day.

And don’t think that cone of shame slowed the little guy down.  Not one bit.  By Thursday, he was into EVERYTHING.  He even got stuck up under mom/dad’s bed.  Wearing his cone, he couldn’t get out and he whined so of course mom went on a hunt and find mission.  There he was stuck up underneath a king size bed.  And there was mom, laying on the floor reaching up underneath it trying to get him.  I have to admit it was a hoot of a good time for all of us anipals.  Of course it was.  We *all* tried to help by climbing up and over and all around mom while she was on the floor.  Snorts – it took her about thirty minutes but she got him out.  I wished I had video taped it.

So that’s where we stand right now at the Hotel Thompson.  Houdini still has his cone of shame on and he is healing up nicely.  He will get his stitches out this coming Saturday – which is a good thing.  Then the cone of shame can come off and he can get a good soak in the tub.

Poor little Hoo Hoo…….I know he’ll be happy to get rid of that cone of shame but it DID keep him from causing problems with his alien abduction procedure site. Poor baby. Well, as always it’s always INTERESTING at Hotel THompson…….but let’s hope 2015 is a year of NO SURGERY REQUIRED for anyone! By the way, did your Mom have to wear a cone of shame after her surgery??? Inquiring minds want to know!

    Hugs, Sammy

Snorts and rolls around laughing. No cone of shame for mommy but daddy did mention something about tying her hands up if she didn’t stop squiggling. Good thing surgery was on her back or she might have gotten one too. Snorts. XOXO – Bacon

Hope had to have the cone of shame too. She would also not leave hers alone. Glad he is doing better. Hope your mom is also feeling better. Have a good week.

Thanks my sweet friend. We are all on the mend here. Mommy went back to work today from being off all last week. Hoo-Hoo is running around like he has been eating catnip. I of course have been napping and writing. See, I can be a good pig at times. XOXO – Bacon

I hope all goes well and all that alien invasions is history for Houdini soon. Like that loudspeaker, it’s cool to be your own DJ for a short while, but some days are more than enough :o) I’m glad the Hotel Thompson- Rescue -Team acted immediately to help the poor guy as he got stuck under the bed :o)

Snorts – you so should have been here brother. It was quite the evacuation of the king size bed. Houdini weighs a whopping 6.3 pounds but for a small guy he can be really FAST – even with the cone of shame – snorts. XOXO – Bacon

Snorts – it would definitely be exciting my friend. I just wish I had a camera when this happened. There we all were. Mom on the floor flat with all of us anipals walking all over her – literally. Houdini stuck under the bed whining. Snorts – mom did some whining afterwards too cause she hit a bottle – double snorts. XOXO – Bacon

Personally – I think it’s best that we can’t remember the aliens. And daddy says that even though Hoo-Hoo is 6 months, he shouldn’t remember either. I think that also might be because of the pain pills the little guy took all last week – snorts. XOXO – Bacon

Remember Hoo hoo is still a baby at 6 month old if it itches and he can bend to get at it chances are high he would. Everything will start returning to normal soon.

Well it sounds to me as if Houdini has something to share in tomorrow’s Show and Tell blog. First the “invasion” and then the cone of shame all right before Christmas? Yep, that definitely qualifies as a gift to be hated. 🙂 And about that cone of shame, Houdini. Do what Golden Retrievers around the world have done for years: Think of it as a lampshade and party on!

You know now that you mention that beautiful – Houdini does make it work to his advantage. I noticed daddy giving him treats this weekend in his cone for him to find later. Snorts – maybe I need one now. 🙂 XOXO – Bacon

My goodness…I thought boys had it easy with that procedure…a snip, snip procedure…is Houdini a girl? NO way he can’t be. Us girls have a horrible time….the vet pulls our intestines out and cuts off our girly thingies and then stuffs all the intestines back in. It’s not a pretty sight my friends. Boys have it so much easier!

Snorts! Mouse Girl told me the same thing about her alien invasion. You know us boys. We just want to pick at everything. Thus Houdini’s cone of shame – which by the way he makes look good 🙂 He won’t leave the incision alone. One little stitch is trying to come out. He will get them all out this Saturday. XOXO – Bacon

Thanks buddy! Mommy is feeling a lot better and may get to cancel her second surgery that is scheduled in February – YAY! We are definitely keeping our hooves and paws crossed for that. Houdini isn’t bad per say. He just won’t leave the incision alone. I think it might be because he is still so young and a puppy. He is doing a lot better and will get those icky stitches out this Saturday. I know he can’t wait. XOXO – Bacon

Dharth – you might be right on this. I don’t personally remember going through the cone of shame either. I mean heck – I don’t have shoulders per say so there is no way I could lick myself – double snorts. But the little guy – he’s been challenged. But that cone has not slowed him down. He’s like a puppy on speed these days. He gets the stitches out on Saturday so maybe he gets them out that day. XOXO – Bacon
