Happy Birthday!

18 Nov

Today has been an important date all around – especially here at the Hotel Thompson!  You do realize what a huge fanatic my mom is about the mouse that wears the white gloves?  I mean, it’s bad enough that there are Mickey Mouse shapes across the facial boards of the Hotel Thompson… let alone the mouse is somehow someway in every room… and mom even has a tattoo of the fellow – shocker huh?  I think you can say that she’s serious about Mickey.

Can you believe that November 18, 1928, Mickey Mouse made his debut into entertainment.  He wasn’t originally known as Mickey Mouse.  Did you know that?  His first mark into history came in Steamboat Willie as Mortimer Mouse.  They changed his name shortly thereafter – good thing too, huh?

In 1929, they came out with a short called The Opry House.  This is when the mouse got his famous white gloves for his outfit.

.

.

And, did you know that Walt Disney himself did the voice of Mickey Mouse up until 1946?

And, the most important thing I found that I *know* mom is going to have a fit about.. there’s actually a Mickey Mouse cocktail.  It’s made with tomato juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco and a lime wedge.  I guess it could be a grown up version by adding Vodka.

So, let’s all wish mom’s little idol a Happy Birthday!!

great than Mickey has his birthday together with my grampy :o) My Mom was a fan of Steamboat Willie, it was great to see how he bounced in his knees while riding the steamboat and the funniest thing was his face when he used the steam whistle :o) Happy Birtday Mousie!

aaww – so many degrees of being close to the mouse. Did you know that my mom’s dad was born in 1928 – the same year of Mickey Mouse? AND when the original mouse was named, he was called Mortimer – which is a family name. Awesome huh? XOXO – Bacon

hahaha…Mickey Mouse…what an important sounding name. I’ll bet he’d be best friends with Kali. Happy birthday Mickey. You certainly hold your age well.

Oh no! He’s such a fun guy. Mommy actually saw a Mickey Mouse waffle maker this weekend. She wanted it so bad but she didn’t buy it. I was shocked and somewhat amazed that she didn’t. XOXO – Bacon

I didn’t know Walt Disney was the voice of Mickey Mouse for awhile. How cool. Love Mickey Mouse.

It’s a shame a lot of the older Disney cartoons weren’t on regular TV as much as the Looney Tunes gang was… Mickey is so famous, and yet other than seeing him in Disney’s version of A Christmas Carol, I feel like I hardly know him…

And when people ask me why I like squirrels so much just because of a cartoon character I created, I always respond that I’ll bet Walt Disney developed a soft spot for mice after creating Mickey… it just seems so natural!

Oh snorts! Your theory could be right with Walt Disney but not with mom. Mommy loves that mouse with gloves beyond words. You don’t even know half of her delusion – snorts. But does she like all mice? Not if they are wearing gloves. Fickle isn’t she? Snorts. XOXO – Bacon

This piggy would love to snort with you :)
