Okay I admit it. We watch a LOT of shows on the Investigative Discovery channel. I mean a *LOT*. I guess it intrigues mom in her line of work. We just can’t get enough of murder and mayhem and trying to figure out who did it before the end of the show.
But I have to admit that there is one situation that repeatedly happens in the shows we watch on this channel. One thing that is the common denominator that people do in real life. One thing that simply amazes and blows our minds here at the Hotel Thompson.
And maybe we are thinking way too hard or we are always seeing the possibility of something that could happen. Maybe it’s just us? With that in mind, I come to you my friends to ask this all knowing question.
In most of the shows we watch, the common factor is that people don’t lock their doors to their house. Really? In this time and day with all of the bad out there looking for a place to visit, you really would leave your house door unlocked at night… let alone during the day?
Maybe it’s just us here at the Hotel Thompson that are the Chicken Little’s of the world? We don’t just lock the doors here. We have deadbolts and an alarm system! Oh, and don’t forget Smith & Wesson who lives with us. And daddy, rolls piggy eyes, he has the sign up at the Hotel Thompson. He’s such a funny man.
So what say you? Do you keep your doors locked or unlocked?

That’s what I will never understand. We lock our doors , our windows are alarmed and Edda the Beretta ( hope we will NEVER need it) lives in my crib to protect me and chicken-momma :o) I also wonder why people have the bad habit that they jump out of the bed immediately and look when they hear a noise in the house. My mom wouldn’t do that, specially without shoes( in case of a smashed window an epic fail) and whatever it is to grab the phone before you take a look is the better choice.

This is true. I watch a *lot* of crime shoes – hey just call me Sherlock Bacon. The number 1 thing humans do is leave the crib unlocked. I don’t get it. Shakes piggy head. As far as getting up in the middle of the night to look. If glass is heard breaking, mom/dad take the cell to the closet and call 911. If no glass but a noise, mom goes and looks – she’s very brave. Not this little oinker. But she says a smart thing on one hoof. Who knows your house set-up more than you? You know where furniture is and Mr. Breaking Bad doesn’t. Snorts – I feel sorry if they break in our house. My mom is pretty accurate with Smith and Wesson and a bat. XOXO – Bacon

Well said Bacon!! OMCs we have deadbolts and window bolts and window break alert with our security system…mom would have gotten motion detector but since I often jump up past the no fly zone we could not get that. If mom is not in eye shot of the door when she is out it is locked.
thankfully the peeps have not been locked out yet ’cause I don’t have thumbs I can’t dial 911 or turn the door knob. MOL MOL MOL Madi your bfff

Same here – locked doors and deadbolts, security system and Mr and Mrs Rugers live here too…not to mention two fluffy dogs – one of which has the biggest deepest bark that make his sound like a rottweiler 🙂 It is funny – it took Mom forever to get use to it – back home in Australia she never locked anything !

Love that sign sweet Bacon…bet that works very well at keeping those baddies away. We lockup and lock down everything here. Have an alarm system and two dogs. One of which would try to eat a baddie up alive if they tried to do harm to anyone at our place. I cannot imagine leaving doors unlocked now days. We watch that channel a lot too, we enjoy those crime shows. Hugs and snout kisses

We lock our doors. My great friend is a professional locksmith He has made our house nice and secure plus anyone who got in would be disappointed as we don’t have a lot of stuff and then the menagerie would probably eat them all up! ES had a hilarious post which mentioned aussie locksmiths. (scroll down)

We’ve also pondered this question Bacon. Living in Johannesburg, South Africa crime is part of everyday life here. You will be pressed to find a house without a high wall or fence here. Added to that most homes have burglar bars on the windows and doors. At our house there isn’t a door or window without them and we never, never, never leave them unlocked. The only time they are unlocked is when we are all out in the garden together. The nice thing about them is that in summer you can open your doors and windows and feel safe-ish but come bed time everything gets closed and locked. On top of all this we also have a house alarm which gets put on at night and whenever mom & dada go out. Better safe than sorry.
