Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –
Keeping his paws on the nuts of the world –
Very important week this week – there are lots of different ways to acknowledge this wonderful professional. Here are some important dates for you to remember:
-
May 6th thru May 12th is National Nurse’s Week.
- May 6th is National Nurses Day
- May 7th is National School Nurses Day
- May 8th is National Student Nurses Day
-
May 12th is International Nurses Day
This entire week provides recognition to nurses for their contribution and commitment to quality health care. We should all be aware of the importance of nurses in all stages of our lives from infant to elderly. They comfort us, support us, encourage us and help us in our times of need.
Did you know? The roots of International Nurse’s Day goes back to 1953. Dorothy Sutherland who was over the US Department of Health, Education and Welfare sent a proposal to President Eisenhower to proclaim a Nurse Day in October of the following year. The proclamation was not officially made. But, this week was created and gained national recognition.
Also did you know? International Nurse’s Day is celebrated on May 12th because that is the birthday of Florence Nightingale.
So here’s a HUGE thank you to all of the wonderful nurse’s out there who take care of all of our loved ones and give that extra love.

I agree , without all the nurses who are there when we are not well, every day in a hospital would be worse. They hold your hand when you have pains and they bring you a cup of tea even in the middle of the night. So thanks you nurses, I’m glad you are there.

Nurses are nice. At the vet, they give treats. Hey! I don’t see National Vet Nurse Day. Hmmm… Maybe that’s celebrated every day! It should be!
Love and licks,
