Mom Did Something Unforgivable Yesterday!

03 Sep

Yesterday on Labor Day, mom proclaimed it a no electronic gadget kind of day.  That meant no iPhones, no IPads, no laptops and no computers.  We actually had to converse with each other face to face.

Have you tried to live life without any of those glorious gadgets for one day?!  It’s the pits!  We couldn’t check the television guide because it’s on mom’s iPhone.  She allowed me 15 minutes to post my Happy Labor Day post yesterday and that was it.  I was cut off after that.  I couldn’t talk to any of my cyber friends.  Do you know how hard that was?!  I was shaking with withdrawals by noon.  And poor daddy.  He couldn’t play any of his Angry Bird games on the iPad.  It was not good.  We were all wanting to reach out for these devices.  Even the purr things with whatever they have been up to lately were wanting to get on the laptop.  They couldn’t and they were complaining big time to mom but she wouldn’t cave.

At 1:00pm, mom went into the kitchen and started pulling things out of the big ice box.  I followed her because well you know there wasn’t anything else to do.  The next thing you knew, dad was in there too.  Mommy said we were going to cook out as in the great outdoors in my magical backyard.  What?!  Go outside and eat… with nature?  Mom, you’re taking this way too far!

So we all went outside in my magical backyard.  Mom and dad worked with the grill and after a while some amazing smells starting happening.  I walked around the back yard – my hooves even touched the grass and it was okay.  Okay because the grass had just been cut.  Even mom’s hooves were touching the grass when she was playing with me.  It was kind of… cool.  And you know what?  It was kind of fun rooting around with my snout.  Let’s not go crazy and say I want to do it everyday but it was kind of fun.  It wasn’t too hot and it smelled good out in nature…. of course the smell coming from the grill helped a lot.  We all even ate on the deck.  That’s right.  I said all.  Mom and dad were slipping me bites here/there of chips and little pieces of steak.  I even had some potato salad. Afterwards, me and mom played tag in the yard.  I would chase her and then she would chase me.  She said that she needed the exercise after eating.

After a withdrawal kind of morning from electronics, the day didn’t end all too bad.  We actually had a wonderful time together face to face without gadgets and emails or texts.  I would highly recommend it every once in a while – just don’t tell mom I said that.  I can’t let her know she’s right all of the time, right?

But there was ONE down side to being off of the computer yesterday.  I missed a very important date – my friend Easy had a birthday and turned four!  How many times do you turn four and I missed it?  I know mom turns 30 every year but it just seems different with us anipals you know.  So Easy, I hope you can forgive this little oinker and his blunder.  This is from the deepest parts of my piggy heart – HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY FRIEND!

20130903-090854.jpgAnd please friends – go tell Easy over at happy birthday.

Uh oh!!!!! I am sure Easy will forgive you! My Mom was sick and didn’t make a card and feels awful about it! Easy is a great doggy and will love you just the same! Your Mom had your best interests at heart, don’t be upset with her. Barks and licks and love, Dakota

Thank you my friend Dakota. You are so very wise. Mommy says that she is going to start doing “No Electronic Day” at the Hotel Thompson at least once every month. She says that we still have to learn to play and talk to each other. And, it was kind of fun. Easy is a great dog and one of my besties. I just hope his feelings aren’t hurt. 😦 XOXO – Bacon

Bettcha Easy is fine with it, after all it wasn’t you who did that, BUT MOM!. Well now about them gadgets, the goal around here is to try and get by with as little of them as we can. Tell you what Bacon, life is just grand, like they says a bowl of cherries!

That is true – life is GRAND my friend. At the Hotel Thompson, we all get so carried away during the day with texting, emailing and buzzing each other from one computer device to the next. Sometimes we do just need to stop and do things the old fashioned way around the house. Actually you know talk to each other. It turned out to be the most amazing day in the yard and having fun. I can’t blame mom for that. She knows sometimes we all just have to let go and have fun with each other. XOXO – Bacon
P.S. But I really did miss all of my friends here! Hogs and snout kisses!

Thank you my friend. It was actually kind of a fun day. I didn’t think it was going to be – it didn’t start off like that. But it was fun. And believe it or not, I slept so well last night. I almost forgot to wake mommy up for the worky place this morning. XOXO – Bacon

That was actually my second time out in the great magical back yard. Baby steps you know. Hopefully when it gets a little bit more cooler, I’ll do it again. I liked chasing mommy around the yard. She was a hoot! XOXO – Bacon

I know it was hard, Bacon, VERY hard, but your mom definitely had the right idea…unplugging from all those fancy electronics was probably really good for her, and yes, for you, too. We need to get outdoors and breathe! And run and play…and where food is involved, I’m all in! 🙂

Amen my friend! The fun was fantastic and I loved the little pieces of food mom/dad kept giving me. It tasted so great from this thing called the grill. Mommy/daddy just told me *I* couldn’t get too close to it but it was still a hoot! XOXO – Bacon

Oh, Bacon. I simply cannot believe my eyes. You . . . in the grass. I am so excited! I am very happy to hear that you enjoyed the great outdoors. Please don’t tell your mom, but my mommy thinks that unplugging thing might be a good idea at our house; but we’ll start slow . . . maybe just half a day at first. 😉

Snorts. Mom does take me out in her little Smart car around town for short little errands. It’s kind of funny when we go through a drive thru and I’m in the back snorting. I don’t think sometimes the cashiers know how to react – I don’t know if they think mommy swiped me from some college or something – it’s a snort! XOXO – Bacon

Your Mom is very smart to have a bit of “screen free time” I am sure it is good for everyone. We have screen free mornings here. It was nice to see your cute piggie picture in the yard! 🙂

Cut the digital leash!!! Outside is wonderful!!! Then again, you could always do what some people I hear do…take their e-toys *outside*…but I don’t recommend swimming with ’em. 😉

I know! And it was the bestest time too cause her hooves touched the grass as well. We ran and ran throughout my magical back yard. Too bad we didn’t see Bigfoot or the unicorn. I’m sure they were too scared to come out right then. Maybe next time 🙂 XOXO – Bacon

This piggy would love to snort with you :)
